Anyone have a good way to get a nice flush fit were the seat meets the gas tank? Im using a supersport race tail on my fighter and I need to get the shape of the tank onto the tail somehow so it fits nicely up against the tank,.

Im hoping I havent cut to much already and jacked it up...knowing my luck its gunna be to small of a seat area lol

since those pics Ive managed to probably make it worse/harder on myself. I need something to cut with other than a hacksaw lol

is the tail as far forward as it goes mate if not i would undo the bolts holding the tank in place and slide the tail under it and then trace where it needs to be cut if that makes any sense dude

i'd bring it forward more

as far as the sides go, i'd hack that whole lower bit off
but if you dont want to go that way you could extend it with more 'glass and get it all flush?

the only problem with sliding it under the tank are the two prongs that stick down for the bolts to go through to hold the tank down. I thought about that.

Im going to be trimming some more of the sides but I want the fitment better first so I can see where/how much to cut

Im thinking something like this

im trying to do that lol, but im trying to get it to slide forward which requires trimming the area that meets the gas tank......which leads back to my original question.....how do i get the gas tank shape onto the seat area? I need something other than a hacksaw and i could get it done

oh

well, if u get saw a 20mm thick block of wood or something and tape a pencil too it
then rest it up against the rear of the tank and run the shape onto the tank

a dremel would be handy to cut the shape out (i find the little "buzzsaw" attachment rips through the fibrglass nicely)

that would bring the tail forwards though, but it looks like you have HEAPS of room there anyways

oh, or you could just leave it like that and get a seat made up that conforms to the tank better and wraps around underneath a little ;)

Yea. All the answers are here mate.

If you use the tank as a guide, take it off and place it over the top where so you can get the shape. If the prongs bother you turn it upside down and try and do it by eye, but remember to be conservative as your eye may fool you.

Alternatively the first thing that came to my mind was what Fimp said, get a right angle with a pencil attached to it and run it along the end of the tank. The pencil will trace the lines at an offset.

Most importantly though, before you cut anything sit your arse in place on the unit and see how much room you will need to be able to sit on it and move around comfortably. If you cut too much and leave too small an area you'll punch your balls against the tank every time you sit in it and it will be un-rideable.

As for cutting it, it's only fibreglass so it will cut pretty easy. If you don't have the tools take a little time and do it in V sections. Better to cut small bits at a time and get it right than cut once too big and fuck it up.
