Afternoon all.

I am thinking about making a slight change to the already changed GSX1400. I am contemplating ceramic coating the headers and cans a satin black colour. Anyone know of anyone in the Melbourne area that can do this? Geelong would also be good....

Thanks in advance

mate, i'm a very tight arsed individual, have you considered doing it yourself.

Take your pipes and 3 cans of vht paint to a powder coaters. Get them to acid dip them then use all the paint on them and bake em up.

vht is a ceramic based paint and will give you a top, durable finish for a lot less bucks than paying for ceramic specialist.

My local powdercoaters even let me do the painting and use there oven. I was building a gsx1100e and the pipes got silver headers blended into black blended into red around the collector. Looked shmick and lasted for the life of the bike. (well i thought it looked alright but i am a self confessed wanker)

I do a similar thing with headers, I get 'em sandblasted (they end up silvery-grey) then spray 3 or 4 coats of VHT Hitemp clear (2 cans worth) on & take 'em to my mates pizza shop & bake 'em for about 45 mins when he is starting the oven up for the night, after fitting to the bike, I heat cycle them half a dozen times - a bit longer each time until they stop smoking (that's the solvents evaporating out of the paint) & end up with a shiny, stainproof finish that will never chip or flake off.
I've done it with black as well but unless you put clear on afterwards, it stains easily 'coz it's like a matt/satin finish.
Most important thing with VHT heatproof is to cook it as slowly as possible, if you do it on the bike, take your time or you'll blister it & have to start again.

Hey Guys,

I would love to do this myself, but I am not very confident about doing it myself. So, here is the option/solution. If either of you fine gentlemen (cough cough) are willing to help me out, I will offer a slab of beer of your choice.

Please consider

what about HPC they do an awesome job and if you're serious they can even coat the insides. We used them on a lot of race headers at my old job.

DIY ceramic coating - Can you spray the headers then put em back on and start the bike - dont let the headers heat too much - kill the engine - repeat? I'm a tightarse too and dont have a mate with a pizza oven :D
