So my old man came around for dinner last month and left with a toothpick and the R1.... And because I'm super original I've gone from the R1 to a Gixer just like Jules :-) I was aiming at a 92-99 Blade but this came up and I've always loved this model.

As they say LET THE MADNESS BEGIN.

Hang on to the panels if you can Gitzy was the only year they did the copper as a limited run

I had a mt03 headlight mount on mine with the gauges mounted off the back - it's in my posts somewhere

Tre, +2 on the back and velocity stacks make a nice improvement (also a nice pipe is much better than the cannon) I had a Nikko hipipe on mine which gave a nice note - Yoshis with the oval outlets sound good to

So since NFR is like a month away and Russ has inspired me to pull my finger out to actually do something I went on a bit of a shopping spree.

I'm cheapin out for now and just modifying the top yoke, so some risers and bars were the first thing..

Scar ebay jobbies were on the menu..
http://i1359.photobucket.com/albums/q786/gitzyfighter/My GSXR/Risers_zpsdwumjhwq.jpg (http://s1359.photobucket.com/user/gitzyfighter/media/My GSXR/Risers_zpsdwumjhwq.jpg.html)

I thought I'd lash out on the bars though and not do the usual renthal fatties I had on the R1 so I went ABM Superbike bars in Black..

http://i1359.photobucket.com/albums/q786/gitzyfighter/My GSXR/ABM Bars_zpscmcck2le.jpg (http://s1359.photobucket.com/user/gitzyfighter/media/My GSXR/ABM Bars_zpscmcck2le.jpg.html)

Good old bar end mirrors were the go to I have a thing for them

http://i1359.photobucket.com/albums/q786/gitzyfighter/My GSXR/Mirrors_zpsxm7sdrw9.jpg (http://s1359.photobucket.com/user/gitzyfighter/media/My GSXR/Mirrors_zpsxm7sdrw9.jpg.html)

Also went for some Renthal road race grips never tried em but heard they were alright.

Extended lines were in need to so goodridge will do the trick.

Because I'm a lanky fucker I found these riser/lowering plates for the rearsets so 1" back and 1" down to maybe make it a lil bit more comfortable.

http://i1359.photobucket.com/albums/q786/gitzyfighter/My%20GSXR/Plates_zps4zyfprbg.jpg (http://s1359.photobucket.com/user/gitzyfighter/media/My%20GSXR/Plates_zps4zyfprbg.jpg.html)

Also purchased some new spark plugs, air filter, oil filter etc etc.. give her a little freshen up ready for NFR..

And went for this headlight unit, I've always liked them so I thought why not..

Gitzy
10-10-2015, 01:58 PM
I think I'll strip off the tupperware on monday after work Scotty and see what I'm working with, get the bars mounted etc then just go full retard with the tig and some stainless rod and plate and see what I come up with.

I have to make a new exhaust hanger bracket anyway so I'll tackle it when I do that. How's this for handy, I was digging around the shed last night and opened my locker looking for an unrelated part and found my Blueflame duel outlet exhaust I had on the Bandit years ago. Boom 4 bolt mount up.. sweet free exhaust..

On a side note, see the black smudgy bit on the mid pipe? it was a melted rubber type stuff I'm slowly getting it off with some scotch brite, soapy water and elbow grease but its making the titanium go silver..

I know nothing about titanium so my question is when I remove the black stuff and its all silver if I stick the oxy down the mid pipe will the heat make it colour back up??

Good stuff Gitzy, love the motivation. By the way, I have those Oberon bar end mirrors and they are a serious pain in the arse. They are fully clamped with hex grub screwes so you can't adjust as you ride. You will spend hours getting them set up and set. If you leave them slightly open on the grub they slip and even then, you only have lateral movement. They do look good though.... :)

Gitzy
15-10-2015, 09:24 PM
Nothing like NFR looming to kick you in the arse Si, them mirrors are actually el cheapo $28 I did put a set of Oberon ones on the R1 and know exactly what you're talking about though. I have these cheapys on the bandit and DARE I say I actually think they're better quality than the $160 Oberons.

I'm cheaping out and just drilling the original yoke but I'm pretty sure one of my holes will end up smack bang on the S logo which is inset I f I remember Jules' job.. so I had some of this liquid steel stuff in my tool box and thought I'd give it a go apparently good to grind/drill/etc. We'll see shall we.. so I roughed it up and packed it in..

Pulled the front calipers off yesterday to give them a good scrub and maybe a coat of black caliper paint.

Also pulled off the rearsets tidied them right up and refitted with the lowering plates, came up a treat and should give me a little more leg room. Fitted a new brake clevis too from vandriver left over one from the TL collection.

I use hairspray to get my grips on they just slide on nicely whilst its nice and wet then the next day there set and ive never had a grip move after . Compressed air gun is also a good one for getting them on too just the tip of the gun under the lip trigger wide open and just slide them on

28-10-2015, 05:19 AM
Cheers Scotty, I use a spray bottle with soapy water it's never been an issue putting grips on, they slide straight on then dry etc you know the drill but these renthal road/race grips were way too small on the I.D. the left side went on ok but the throttle side no dice.
I had to slice off the raised edge from the Suzuki plastic throttle and all the ridges along it actually come straight through the grip.

Lol nope not gonna snap anytime soon, def better in ally buuut since I can't really see it to appreciate it and front end weight isn't an issue for my lady like riding skills this'll do.

So I got home yesterday and it fit a treat but the flat position of the actual headlight plate maxed out the adjustment for the headlight so it was too high up so time for mark II bracket, just had to angle the plate down 38 degrees and voila.. took the opportunity to make it a bit better shape too cos why not..

Mk3 would be to have the light mounting plate adjustable with bolts, unless you reckon you have nailed it for angle first go?

Oh, and also, (I'm sure you have this covered) beware of solid mounting. Vibration will rattle globes and other things apart, not to mention the vibration noises. I have learnt that the hard way over the years. A bit of rubber should save the day.

Purchased some MAB's from bunnings, MAKE A BRACKETS never heard of em but pretty handy if you want to shape something..

The gauge bracket will have to wait this one will do for now for NFR.

I will however make a new exhaust bracket this one is just temporary.

I'll second that...

They're not gonna do much. Bit of vibration and I reckon they're gone

i use them on my bike for heaps of stuff. Usually for things that don't weigh much though.
I have the pre made right angle pieces as part of my bracket for my oil cooler, has been fine for maybe 5-10 000ks.
depends which way the load is being distributed.
Gitzy's template exhaust hangers brackets aren't definitely better than mundy's balsa wood dog bones.

Template makes more sense! :) I thought you meant temporary just for this ride and you'll sort it after NFR. What surprised me more was that it was on YOUR bike! Engineer par excellence doing this!? :)

Lol my bad. the new chunky ones will be plenty stronger than ze template now.

I got super motivated last night at around 9pm and went and routed all the wiring and fitted my freshly painted things.. punches out a fair bit of light I'm thinking because its a slender headlight anyway and the only thing disrupting the beam is between the "eyes" so the beams are pretty straight forward unobstructed.
