So my old man bought my R1 off me the other night, so now I'm missing a bike you know because everyone needs 5.. anyway..

I've always wanted to fighter a blade, any current or previous owners out there have any info for me..

Only looking at 92-99 shape, not a 929 or a 954..

Is the 893 better than the 919 or vice versa.. any issues I should look out for mechanical or otherwise etc..

Do they actually still make 16" front tyres?? MONO?

Carry on :-)

I know fuck all about them... But I would go as late a model as you can find. I think the 919 was a better motor not that the 893 was shit.
You can retro fit a 17 onto them. Mine has an 07 front end.
I all most put mine up for sale last week. But if I sell it I'll never get another bike apparently.

The 893 is a revvy / cammy motor, the 918 more docile. All suffer from jumping out of second gear and some from loss of oil feed to no.3 main bearing usually due to worn oil pump. Most are good motors though. A lot have reg/rec problems. Top yokes can be easily drilled and risers fitted despite being thin. 16" tyres are still available , but most fit 17" from VFR750 or CBR600s. RRW and RRX are hardest to convert as hubs need machining. Can fit SSSA from VFR750 or 800s and complete front end from RRY and RR1 to RR3s, 929 and 954 motors. Anything specific , just ask again.

Cheers Guys, I have heard about the second gear thing a few times now. What is the issue with it exactly? Is it hard to fix?

Not sure. If it's a selector fork, it's easy and cheap. If it's gear dogs, no it's expensive. Not all engines are affected though. May be just a gear change problem. My RRW carbs had problems that I couldn't sort, best to buy a nice set of FCRs ?

If you need 16" tyres, Nigel would have them for sure.

I've had a go on one with a VFR400 (NC30/35?) front wheel.
Not sure what was involved in fitting it but I preferred it to the 16".
Never been a fan of 16" wheels.

I've got a 2000 model vfr800 front wheel sitting in my garage if you need it, Gitzy.

As much as I might get yelled at if you find a good original ish 92 blade keep it as is and make it fast. I love those bikes

Had a '92 original ish as my track bike about 3 yrs ago, thrashed the tits off it and it just came back for more. No probs with the dreaded 2nd gear and never once jumped out of gear. Changed all the fluids and set up the suspension for my weight and never looked back. There's still a reasonable choice of 16# tyres out there. Fairly aggresive power delivery(apparently) but nothing to catch you out, would get another one if I had space in my shed.

My heart is set on the blade me thinks, this all helps guys. I'm no racer, so I'll prob be satisfied with the 16 front wheel but I'll see what happens. Handy to know Chris :-) cheers.

I think I'll sit on my funds from the R1 for now and keep an eye out for a lowish km's model and be patient..

There's a candy red one on gumtree in Liverpool for $5200. It looks good.
These bikes were the turning point for sportsbikes and IMO were number one till the R1 was born. They still hold their own today.

What the moly fuck is that Tony!!!

I seen that Bobby, I want something untampered with so I can tamper with it.

Rodney will you still love me?

I had a k4 750 lined up for tomorrow but someone beat me to it. Bugger. I'll be patient.
