Do I really need all these electrics in my bike?

It seems odd to me that my bike needs so much in the way of electrical bits. it is a 1988 GPX 600 with no cdi or injection. Choppers and race bikes seem to have virtually none comparatively. Can I cull it all and go simple? I would love that very much. Please help me. [xx(][8]
