Expectations are way too high for it not to seem like crap. Dangerous territory.

Im in two minds i dont want to see it for fear of them ruining a classic ,the story and over the top special effects. But also want to watch it to see how much they fuck with the original

Another Resident Evil / Rocky / lethal Weapon etc etc sequel.

The original had a $350,000 to $400,000 budget when it finally got backing.
It wasn't a Warner Bro's, special effect, big budget movie overseen by accountants.
To hire local bike clubs to make up the numbers and for the director to donate his
own van for the opening scene etc etc is what made it great.
Warner Bro's, Disney ? Not that much difference.

(Fingers crossed its a great movie though)

Australia has always done well at home grown low budget movies,

Mad Max, Crocodile Dundee, The Castle, Priscilla, Picnic at Hanging Rock,
Rabbit proof fence, Muriel's wedding, Romper Stomper, Walkabout and heaps more.

Unfortunately this will be neither Australian or low budget.

There has been talk of a remake or a follow up since 2012.
Tarantino was one name mentioned. I think the person behind
it was having trouble raising the money though.

If Tarantino was involved it would be a great movie interspersed with 20 minute lumps of batshit boring dialogue (See Deathproof)

... but the world has turned since 1974. When I spoke to writer and film maker Richard Cartwright in 2010, he could attest to this. He was in fact preparing to ‘take the trip’ again and begin shooting a reworking of the iconic Aussie flick – in 3D and with a new generation of bikers. “I am actually using the word recreation or reinvention,” he enthused. “I think some pieces of art you just don’t touch. And I think I will refer to Mr Quentin Tarantino’s line, which is that ‘Stone is just too good to remake’. This will be more of a homage”.

my mate was involved in making some of the monster trucks for this - they were out at Broken Hill for a fair while until it rained and the grass started to grow hence the move over to Namibia

I'm optimistic. I'd class it as 'half hollywood', it's still got the original Aussie director and some local producers, even the screenwriter was actually an actor from MM1. The money's coming from Village Roadshow but hopefully they won't be allowed to cock it up
