Mount LED'S on back of sub- frame and shape Perspex to suit tail, tint and fit. Flush tidy and flash.
Yep good idea, I was thinking something along those lines,
I have on order some led tail lights from America, also waiting on some other parts to turn up.
So , I'm thinking.... quick drawing in paint :)

I wouldn't mind cutting these down, don't know if I could be fucked at the moment tho.

Still have the original damaged sleeves, might try & get motivated, cut them down from 45cm to 35cm & give them a bash with a hammer.

Yep. It will be some shade of black (gloss, matt, or a bit of carbon fiber shaped to fit)
Only thing that sucks is I ordered a few parts from America at the same time & one part is on back order, they said maybe 2 weeks back order, so looks like I will be waiting maybe 4 weeks till I get them., Lucky its the middle of winter.

Few pics of my PAIR valve removal,
Don't need these
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSCN0057.jpg
Got some PSR PAIR cover plates
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSC01838.jpg
So I have some massive weight savings :p
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSCN0052.jpg
But the best bit is PSR made a production stuff up & printed there logo on the wrong side & machined the indentation on the wrong side, so I got my money refunded. I can still use them, just have to flip them over !

Cut the plugs from the VTR & CBR

Don't need the old VTR ugly coils
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSC02042.jpg
Cut the rubber from the VTR & swapped with the rubber from the CBR, had to shave the plastic ribs from the bottom of the CBR stick coils so the VTR rubber would fit

Thanks for the offer, I would like too, but....
Excuse # 1, I have Social phobia & the only person I have met before is Erno & Erno is not going.
Excuse # 2, A retarded mechanic fucked my bike, now every time the fan comes on the engine stalls & I don't think I can fix it myself in time, as I work 12 hour days and not really sure how to fix it.
Excuse # 3, I'm getting older & don't really want to do a long ride with clip ons & as with Excuse # 2, I don't think I will have time to fit my new front end with dirt bars in time.
Excuse # 4, I'm Lazy....
Excuse # 5, Not sure my wife would let me go even if I over came Excuse's # 1 - # 4.

aaa123
05-11-2014, 06:46 PM
2012 CBR1000RR stem will not fit the VTR frame as it is to large at the top bearing.
I got a SP1 lower triple clamp.
SP1 lower triple on left, CBR lower triple on right,
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSCF5115.jpg
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSCF5120.jpg
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSCF5118.jpg
SP1 & CBR have same size lower bearing & dust seal, so I took a guesstimate that a stem swap would work.
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSCF5129.jpg
Pressed the stems out,
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSCF5124.jpg
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSCF5126.jpg
Then pressed SP1 stem into CBR lower triple clamp, :)
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSCF5139.jpg
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSCF5133.jpg
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSCF5138.jpg
VTR lower stem bearing is 17mm thick, SP1 lower bearing is 14mm thick, so I had a 3mm spacer machined up to fit into the VTR frame,
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSC01761.jpg
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSC01784.jpg
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g428/2000jeep2000/DSC01762.jpg
SP1 upper stem is to small for CBR upper triple clamp, so had a spacer machined for that,

Yes, borrow away.... The only thing I left out that you may want to include for a HOW TO would be that the steering stops will more than likely need modification, but this step would depend on what bike is used, e.g VTR, VFR, CBR or some other bike.

As I've stated my VTR is hard to start,
I'm going to try & cross a few things of the list of why it will not start,
It does not have a fuel on/off petcock & I'm thinking fuel is leaking into the carbs & flooding them or something is sticking in the carbs.
For example , one of the last times I had it running, I tried to start it for around 15 minutes but it wouldn't start , so I left it & came back to try & start it around 4 hours later, it started first hit of the start button. Then last weekend I tired to start it & it wouldn't start, I ended up draining the battery trying .
This sort of thing may be easy for most of you guys, but I don't know that much about carb's, cam chain's etc , I can do the basic's no problems like change the oil/filter , spark plugs , air filter etc.
I will post up what the out come is, as it may help some one else in the future.
Charged the battery today & bought new spark plugs
Checked the battery with a multimeter & it is showing 13.40 volts
I also have a new regulator / rectifier
Tomorrow I will firstly check for spark, then if I have spark & it does not start, I'm thinking with my limited knowledge it is a fuel/carb issue. Then I will take it from there.
Any of you engine Guru's don't be shy with any advise if you feel I am going in the wrong direction.

Sounds like you may be flooding it on start up. If it hasn't been started for a while (like all day or over night) use a little choke. Pull the choke all the way out, then push it back in about half way. Hit the starter without any throttle and see how you go. They have 48mm carbies and love the fuel. So if you're flooding it, you'll smell it in the exhaust fumes real quick! If that doesn't work, try a little throttle and see how you go.
I lived with 2 VTR's for years and found them to be pretty easy to start all year round. You just have to work out your technique

Hey, thanks so much for the advise Nudie. :D, loved your fighter that you sold to Erno.
Yes, I can smell fuel at the exhaust when trying to start, and I don't ride it much, so it has usually been sitting between rides.
A bike shop told me not to use choke when starting (only to use choke in winter), so I have not been using any choke & no throttle .
I will definitely try your suggestion of using the choke.
So tomorrow I will connect charged battery & install new plugs, then pull out choke all the way, then push back in around half way & press start with no throttle, hope it fires up. I will report back what happens.

I have no spark,
I pulled out the front spark plug & tested for spark on engine block & no spark at all, when I did the cbr600rr stick coil mod I must not of connected a wire correctly , that's what I'm thinking,
The battery is showing around 13/13.4 volts, it is trying to turn over & all the lights are working , so I don't think its the battery.
aaa123
15-11-2014, 01:20 PM
Still no spark from front or rear spark plugs.
Headlight, taillight, dash & horn are all working, it is cranking over.
The cbr600rr stick coil mod is fairly basic, just cut the vtr wire plug & connect to cbr stick coil wires, so I can not really see how I could of messed it up & the r/r was basically plug & play. All the stick coil & r/r wires seem to be connected correctly & all the fuses look ok.
Looks like I might need to take it to a bike shop, because at this point I don't no what else to check.

I finally got a spark, :)
I was testing all kinds of stuff, kill switch, kick stand, coils, R/R, battery, plugs etc.
Then I got the idea to look at the HISS, I unplugged the HISS, straightened the wires & plugged the HISS back in, put screw driver in coil & tested for spark against engine a got spark !
Then battery went flat, but that's ok cause I got spark ........
I have put battery on charge & I am hoping that it is just a bad connection with the HISS wire/plug.
I'm just glad I got a spark.

Thanks guys,
I have one more issue to try & sort out, the engine stalls when the fan comes on at around 100 degrees , it is only stalling when at idle, it has not stalled under acceleration, & I can start it back up straight away.
Hopefully I will get a chance to take a look Sunday.
Did some searching online, I might try testing the Stator & look at the fan switch, then take it from there.
When I get that problem sorted I will fit the cbr1000rr front end.
I am also thinking about chopping the rear fairing shorter, I think it is to long, maybe like how I chopped the white rear fairing.
Anyway , hopefully I can solve this issue soon.

Unplugged stator & radiator electrics, tested with multimeter, plugged every thing back in, went for a ride, bike is not stalling when fan comes on, will need to go for a few more rides for more testing, but it looks like maybe just a bad connection with one of the stator or fan plugs/wires. If so, I will start the front end swap soon, I have all the parts, just need to find the time.

Firestorms are known to pop and stall while idling. It used to happen now and again when I was sitting at the lights or just waiting for traffic. It's the same with bikes in Aus, the US, Europe, everywhere. It will give a little cough and stall, then start straight up again no worries.
One solution is to wind your idle speed up a bit. But jetting the carbs seems to eliminate the problem

Thanks for that info Nudie.
I got this bike registered around a year ago & it never stalled once,
then I took it to Peter Stevens in the city to have the carbs cleaned/adjusted & valve clearances checked around 4 months ago,
they totally fucked with my bike, dented the tank, scratched the frame, broke & welded radiator, didn't fill coolant & ever since I picked up the bike from them the engine would stall every time the fan came on.
So with all there other fuck ups I'm thinking that they also didn't connect one of the electrical connections properly. Absolute fuck heads, when they called me to say the rad was broken & they would have to weld it & charge me $250 to do so, I said the rad was not broken or leaking when I brought the bike in, they said "well we can put the rad back on, but now it is broken it will probably be fairly dangerous to ride with coolant leaking out of the rad as your riding". I think they dropped the bike in the work shop & wouldn't admit it, how else would all that damage occur.

Dropped the CBR1000rr forks at the suspension shop, getting them serviced, re-sprung & valved for my weight & set up for the VTR, also having the black stripped off the fork tubes & then clear anodising, wont get the forks back till after Christmas :(.
Going to give this the chop hopefully in the next couple of days, just to long & pointy for me.

Not much going on, still waiting to get my forks back from suspension shop & waiting for cush drive to arrive from America.
Just thought I would post up a couple of pics of some parts that I got for any one that wants a look & I also started my rear end chop, it will probably be to short to use the CBR1000rr tail light once I finish chopping, but that's ok, cause I'v got some thin led tail lights that will fit & keep it all short.

so I decided for my sanity, I would use the original VTR gauge and mount it all up on the VTR headlight bracket for ease,

Just had a giggle to myself when I saw your front guard. I had a CF guard on my VTR. On a trip to Philip Island years ago I accidentally (because to do one on a public road deliberately would be illegal) did a wheely and landed it a bit hard. The tyre squashed the guard into the radiator and tore it into three pieces, flinging the biggest bit about 10m in the air. I thought it was hilarious and kept riding, but someone behind me picked it up and carried it all the way home for me. I never could make all the bits fit back together.
Anyway, keep the pics coming

Maybe it's lucky then I still have the side mount radiators !? One less thing to worry about  , if I had one of those accidental wheelies I'm fairly sure my oil cooler is well out of the way :) . I actually don't mind the look of the side mounts, seems most people don't like them tho.
Last time the bike was up and running it had a stalling issue when the fan would come on at idle, since I ditched the Lithium battery and got a bigger 12 amp hr battery the idle stalling when fan comes on has stopped, so looks like the new larger battery has solved the problem :D  .
Bike is coming together nicely, most of the issues I had are slowly getting sorted, since I swapped back to the Honda OEM mufflers from the Yoshimura, the back firing appears to have gone and the bike seems to be running better.
Front suspension may be set a little hard, so might have a fiddle around with settings.

I have ridden just over 500 kilometres with the CBR1000rr front end swap and all seems to be going well,
I still have a to do list for the bike,
fit CF frame protectors,
smooth out JBweld on engine case,
I'm not exactly happy with how the front looks, I would like the headlight etc more compact, closer in/lower and onto the forks, but for now I'm just happy to be riding again, so it will probably stay the way it is until I get time to modify and adjust things, the VTR dash is fairly large, so I probably need to relocate the ignition key and HISS to be able to move the dash in closer or get a smaller after market dash !?
I do have a RC51 front fairing and one RC51 headlight, I am tempted to pull of the Buell twin headlight and mount up the RC51 upper fairing with single headlight (endurance style)... but then it probably wouldn't qualify as a streetfighter then and you guys might tell me to fuck of to some other forum :o   ... would possibly look good tho !
I still have all the parts for the RC51 swingarm swap, but time and money are short at the moment, so not sure when that will get done,
any way, great weather at the moment, so I'm just content to be riding for now, happy I finally got the bike going and front end swap finished.
