Hi Guys,
I recently bought an 02 Gsxr750. Wasn't exactly what I wanted but it fit the budget and happy to say I'm on the road and it's been great. Got a nice coastal road and windies in the hills here in Cairns area.
Was going to trade it on a naked but you still have to customise them to look different to the next guy sooooo.
I'm thinking the gixxer will make a great streetfighter. Haven't worked out exactly what I want to do yet, though this would be a great place to start.

Hey welcome, 02 can make a sweet fighter. Love Cairns great place and some good roads. I have family at Holloways and Kewarra

Hi Yella, Thanks. Yeah you've gotta love the northern beaches! I've been looking at plenty of pictures of fighters, I think the hard part for me will be making decisions on what to do and not having it off the road for too long.

That always the challenge, I always end up off the road for longer than expected :)

Just had a look through some of your project build pages, WOW! Great job. Is it hard to keep the frame clean, or would you recommend painting it? Does she (outkast) ride well?

Frame is easy enough to keep clean down here but up with you I would paint. Going to paint mine next time the motor is out. Outkast rides well has been super reliable and fun so far :)

Hey mate, welcome aboard. Did you have a quick browse through this topic to get some ideas? http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/showthread.php?9299-GSXR600-750-2000-Present

Hey Gix11, I hadn't seen that. Some great ideas there, some are quite simple yet really effective. That's going to be one of my issues in the build, making decisions!

Want to know the worst part? No matter what decision you finally make, it will never be finished. That's the disease known as Streetfighter building; the building itself is half the fun (riding being the other half) and you always think of something else you could do.

Haha, I think that's what I like. The customising and changing (as well as the riding). Was out last weekend with a group of riders from work. Nearly 30 bikes and I think the riders looked more alike than the bikes did.

I fightered my K4 thou in a weekend. It is my commuter so I couldn't have it off the road for long. If you plan things well enough with parts and time then you can usually get stuff done without compromising it's usability.

Hey cruisecontrol, just looking for parts now. Is there anyone in Australia that makes top yolk conversions? Wanted to keep all my standard gear and buy other gear for the conversion/fighter. Then I'll probably just end up with a garage full of spares.

Hi Ozzy1100, after reading some older threads on here that's what I'm going to do. Someone said if you want to go back to clip ons you just put a cover/sticker Over the holes you drill.

I don't know of any Australian companies that mass manufacture conversion kits. Ben Shaw at Extreme Creations could make some up for you but bespoke parts attract the big $$$. ABM make some good ones but they are an OS company and sold here by he-who-shall-not-be-named.
I drilled my stock top clamp and had no problems. There isn't a lot of meat there so I used some flat bar shaped to fit underneath for a bit more peace of mind.

Hey thanks for the info cruisecontrol, I think I'll drill it and add some backing or reinforcement. I haven't looked at it yet because I don't get home until Wednesday. :-(
Getting lots of research done while at work though.
How do you mount your brake master cylinder reservoir on the new bars?

That is the best part. Knowing what you want and then staring at the bike til you figure out how to do it.

Yeah. Think there's going to be a lot of starring to work out the tail end.

Hey thanks Jockney rebel, this will be my first cyclone so should be interesting. Survived Black Saturday back in Vic so I sort of know the prep and aftermath.

Friendly advice. Masking tape will not stop a cow or tree or anything flying thru your windows. If ya wanna get photos, do it in the eye of the storm, its a huge eye but the tail end is much worse than the front. And welcome.

Hey davo, that's good advise. Thanks.

No worries Bra, personally i'd av been more scared in them fires. 300 kl/h winds are strong, but the velocity of uplift in a cyclone is fucked. Seeing a 500kg cow in mid air is no longer on my bucket list. But fire has no mercy on anything.

Gixftr

That puts it in perspective. Sounds as though it stains your memory like the fires does mine. Really hoping for a non event in the hills rather than a coastal bouncer.
