Shitty rear shock would be my guess.

Yep, shitty rear shock, and shitty front forks. Well, not that bad, but they are both basic and undersprung for 100kgs of pure muscle. Or 80kgs of muscle and some fat. Ahem.
Fucking brilliant motor, really light, really responsive, handles well even with the basic suspension, good brakes.
In short, I really like it. Especially since it was free, it's my new company bike. Much nicer than the Versys that it replaced.

I got and MT09 in Nov, they're a cracking little bike. A 2004ish GSXR - GEN1 Busa shock will also fit.

I'm trying to find a good one with a remote res. Otherwise the new ones are up around $1k.

The only difference is 72-74mm travel vs 60mm

How does one score a company bike above 110cc's?
Jealous, I am.

I noticed your user name on an MT forum when someone brought up the stunt bike that Ben did.
Thanks for the heads up about the gsxr shock. Which one has the longer travel?

Well Yodan, you show no interest in driving a company ute.
It did take a while; when my ktm 640 super commutard needed a rebuild, my boss gave me a budget to work with, and I got a Versys 650. When that almost had 40000 ks, I managed to get a good trade in deal on a new MT09.

So does anyone have a rear shock for me?

Check findapart.com.au maybe?

The key word was cheap, wreckers in sydney are $200 - $250. Ebay from the us are $50- $80, plus a million dollars for shipping.
Seeing if someone here had one they wanted to get rid of.
Worse case i send it to my Father in law in Texas and get him to send it.

Deano had a white power rear shock that one of the members bought and it was off a K4 Gixxer. Can't remember who bought it, but they may have a spare stock one now... Have a look if you can find the thread

I took the one of my 2001 busa and put on the MT09 today, it fits well and rides great, just had to drill out the clevis holes from 9mm to 12mm. Remote res is the go, not much room up in there.

I don't need the shock anymore.
I took the plunge and bought a Penske.

Did you go the Super-Size with a side order of fries?

hooligan

No, I'm watching my weight.
Apparently I'm too fat for stock suspension.

better to be tall and fat than short and thick Bra.

What are you doing with the front end, it's also shit ?

Springs and new valve stack from stoltec.
Not the full monty 25mm cartridges, just redoing the stock stuff. Should be here in a month or so, I'll let you know how it goes.

I almost pulled the pin on the 25mm cartridges the other day and then realised I have a busa engine still laying around the shed I need to fix...........I hate money..or lack of it.

It'll be interesting to see how big an improvement the springs, valves and oil make. I have the rebound screwed right in and the front end still bounces a couple of times. I've wound the preload up to try and slow it down, so it's rough as guts but at least it's slowed the speed of which it bounces.

hooligan
29-04-2014, 12:39 PM
I have the rebound and preload at both ends as stiff as it'll go (ooo er) and it's still a pogo stick.

I had a good email conversation with nick from stoltec about how i ride and what i wanted, so fingers crossed it works out well.
I also tried to speak to Terry Hays about the new racetech shock and redoing the front forks, but they never got back to me with a price, so i sent the money to Stoltec. I'm looking forward to bike with suspension as good as the motor.

That is a shame about Terry Hayes.
I took the TL out there after a chat with him on the phone about my problems. He loves a chat and was showing me his current racing project and what the plans were. He then machined up a spacer that I asked for in an attempt to fix the problem and when he realised it wasn't going to work he charged me fck all for the work he had put in to it. A genuinely nice guy.
