Guys,
looking at a 1988 RGV this weekend. It def needs some TLC but interested in knowing what I should be looking out for. Will I need a standard exhaust to get it registered since it's a Oct 1988 model?

I thought about making him an offer on that,
but I'd rather have an RG. Always wanted a Yamagamma 350.

The powervalves fall into the cylinder and fuck shit up - if it doesn't have upgraded PVs, budget for it. If they fall in, it's generally a piston and a barrel - or a weld, bore, replate job to fix the barrel.
Most of them have been crashed and blown up a thousand times - engine parts can get expensive as they're starting to get thin on the ground, but RGV250.co.uk is a bloody good resource.
Looks like a VJ21 with VJ22 pipes on it? If you know the right people, rego with those pipes are no problem - but use it as a bargaining point. I feel like I've seen that red sprocket cover before... generally looks like it's been put together out of odds and ends.
Make sure it's not stolen - It must be about time for some of the bikes that were stolen back in the 90's to start re-appearing.
Does it run?

VJ21 has a 18" rear wheel - alot of guys reckon 21s with a 17 fitted and the backend raised to compensate don't handle as well as a 22 (Gull arm/braced arm version)...
Aussie market bikes had 32mm-ish carbs - if they're not, it's an import - I think JDM had 28s?

That is why we dropped big singles in them, the ideology of Suzuki back then was idiotic.

Parts are a joke nowadays.
Barrels cant be re plated from memory and engines are harder to get than blood from a stone at a decent price.

I've had a few but no first gens like that and they are no where near worth what people want for them when you factor in trying to maintain them nowadays.
