Hi all, I recently put a Delkevic 200mm slip on muffler onto my 2003 naked Suzuki SV650. Looks like this (http://www.delkevic.co.uk/?section=shop&product_category=exhaust_s7rhj&sub_category=silencers_hl3s5&product=200mm_carbon_fibre_round_silencers&variant=cb1300_sa_2005-2010_2880&start=0&search_term=&order_by=). I like it, sounds deep, throaty and loud!

Anyway, the first time I took it out for a ride, I got pulled over by the cops and defected for being too loud! I went to an exhaust place to get the noise tested and it read 103 d0B @ 4000 rpm, when I should be under 94dB @ 4000 rpm. They are telling me I should put the OEM muffler back on. I don't want to do that as it is big and ugly, plus I had to cut the stock pipe to install the slip on.

So I want to put another slip on in place, but I need to know it will be under 94dB @ 4000 rpm before I buy it. Can anyone recommend? Has anyone put a 3rd party exhaust on their SV650 that they know is definitely under that threshold? Do manufacturers usually put the exhaust noise rating on their products? I never saw any when I was looking.

It came with a baffle from the factory and I installed it. Even with that it is at 103dB.

Put the stocker back on for the test, then go back to the Delkevic when it's all clear.

You've been caught once, you'll never get caught again :)

Yep plug it with steel wool, bend out a paper clip to stop the wool coming out, get it tested then rip the clip out and off ya go

103Db is not that loud, and 94Db is like a mouse fart, My ZRX1000R makes 118Db at 8000rpm, I haven't tested is at 12500rpm yet, but it does sound lovely at full chat!!!
All you can really do is as advised earlier and fit the original can for the test then refit the Delkevic when you get home. All of the absorbtion baffle cans will be very similar volumes due to the design of them, whereas the indirect baffle standard can will be much quieter.
