I've got a Tony Hawk Helmetcam, they are available from major department stores for about $80.
They have a "LA-SER" ;) for lining up what you want to shoot & the footage quality is surprisingly good, I thought it would be a bit of a toy really but I was pleasantly surprised with the result.
It comes with a 32mb SD card but I bought a 2gb card for it for $19 & it will record over an hour.
It takes 2 AAA batteries

Looks good Rod but why has it got that wobble affect? How long can you record for? And most importantly how easy is it to use? Sorry for all the dumb questions. Basiclly i want a cam that i strap to the bike or me at the drags press 1 button to record and 1 button to stop. Gotta be able to do it easy with helmet and gloves on in around 40deg heat without any fucking around.

i can rec for 1hr with the 2G card and the wobble looks to me like the rider himself not the cam this is exactly the type of cam you need shayne they are easy to use and best of all cordless and it records at 30fps which aint bad for a helmet cam

I think you've mistaken me for someone who knows about computers Oz.
I've never done anything like that before, I'll check it out & see if I can do it.
It's getting dark now, I'll strap it on for the commute to work tomorrow.
Stay tuned.

These are about $1300 including the recorder unit, but they're good bit of gear. They can supply the extruded alloy tube for helmets too.

I had a 520 Sony bullet cam and the same problem with wires and buttons etc. Bought one of the Oregon Scientific for my son to go body boarding with. Says waterproof to 10 metres but at the price I figured it would be trashed within a week. 6 months on and its been as good as gold and comes with all the accesories to attach to the bike, board, skateboard etc. I'd buy another.

I think you'll find that is the cam itself mate. The components are very few so any kind of stabiliser will be left out, so if there is any kind of electrical pulse near the cam it will pull the image as it's recorded in a pulse motion as the current is produced.

Yeah, mine did the wobbly thing when I was fucking around with it yesterday, it never did that when we used it on my mates race sidecar though so maybe it needs to be as far away from the ignition source as possible?
I also found that the sound was about 4 seconds behind the video - never did that last time either, I'm gunna make up a little Faraday Cage for it today & see if that fixes it.

Your actual recording unit was strapped somewhere else though wasn't it? The lense itself will not cause wobble from electrical interference, it's the recording part that will.
