Hi. Im looking at getting a cheap gsxr-w and customizing it a bit ? When i owned one 15 years ago i found that the sitting position was not good for my back & wrists ( btw im around 170 cm) so after looking at a number of street fighters the most notable change is the handlebars replacing the clip ons. How much does this effect the posture, whats it like on a longish ride, do i need to replace the top triple clamp or can i machine it to accept handle bar clamps, Ill need to change the brake line but anything else?. Has anyone used clubman style/ flat bars rather than the dirt style? Thanks for any help or suggestions

There are every consiveable type round these parts, I have a w myself, I just drilled holes in my triple, had a very small rise fat bar and loved it, and all the cool kids have a gixa fighter

I put flat drag bars on my K4 and I love them. Upright enough to keep the weight off the wrists but just enough weight on the front end in an attempt to keep it on the ground.
You may need longer throttle cables as well as brake/clutch lines.

I have stock loom to both switch gear,
Stock throttle and "fast idle / choke" cable,
Spent a lot of time re-routing the originals.
Used new clutch and brake lines.

Happy to do 700/800k days,
Did one 2000k weekend,
Used to have two faired Busa's
but I can cover more distance on this one.

thanks for the input fellas. it may have swayed my thinking in regards to buying it. anything i can do to make the boiler look better or relocate it to two small ones? If i make a street fighter it will round off the projects on the boil in the shed. Just got to work out a way where i can afford to have three registered ( clubv plates maybe 83,84, 93)

on my vfr ive tied it all , the original set up of the bike it had high set style clip ons as factory terribally ugly but i never got to ride it like that , when i finished it it had clipons as thats what i was liking at the time , the riding position was terrible but it handled well and was awesome in the tight stuff but city riding and the large vfr tank with my generous build it was soon replaced

i then went to mx bars they were comfortable , rode well and looked pretty good , was awesome on the tight stuff too but after the ride from adelaide to heathcote and back last year i ditched them as the flogging from the wind at highway speeds in tthe upright position was enough to try some thing else

finally i have fitted some really wide flat drag bars that i made myself out of crmo i find these a happy medium of bars ive had and am happy with the ride the height and the handling even though being real wide , best of all i think they look the best

that link was awesome. im impressed by the attention to detail. Still not a fan of the squished up tail but like the brutal look some of the bikes have got.

True, not a major fan of the german tail end either, but in between them there's some good stuff and great food for ideas.

you will never regret going to flat bars or mx bars no matter what enjoy riding all day in comfort and the wheelies are a habit you learn to live with quite easy
