measure and correction are to very different animals so as I have fuck all chance of one I have given
very little thought to the other. Verification on the other hand is very much the catch call for the final
assembly then welding sequence...... I still have to dowel the base plates when a mag base drill turns up,
but apart from that and some test welds, clamp making etc I think a day with two blokes should see it finished

Yes, actually gone as far as to test some silicon bronze tig brazing. In two minds as yet,
cant see how it will pull any less and that is more of a concern than distortion. Tho
I recon I was over 30% less amps to weld the same test piece then with er70s-2 steel.
Thing is I don't know if this is the job to test how the braze comperes to steel in strength terms
as these sections are the datum for the whole process and will ultimately be required to transfer
large forces.

The amount of force you're going to apply isn't going to be enough to make the bronze move... It's pretty clear you've designed for deflection rather than to yield strengths. Should pull less than normal tigging - brazing has always been the way to go for minimum movement.

kinda agree, still with a upwards of 20 ton porta power levering of the front of a frame it still makes my arse pucker
on using a new technic on a vital part I only get one chance at after its eaten a few 100 hours.......
Its still a close call even tho yield strength is between a 1/3 and 1/2 less than steel but your correct I designed as much
of this out as I could. mind you this design is still all just by eye and a stab in the dark..

Then blasted and etch primed all pretty like ready for paint.
I hate powder coat if u ever have to work on something,

So I find myself waiting for some parts to come in
and nothing to do on a Saturday night. Fixed that problem
by drinking and tooling around. One fix was to actually fix
something in the shop. The 8" bench grinder was set up
with the linisher one side and a buff the other. Problem
being the polishing of parts IMO should only involve the removal
of my pants and not shinny metal...... Ages ago I took the wire
wheel of the 6" grinder to install a wheel just for carbide tools and
tungstens. The wire wheel tho had proved very useful and I missed using
it. Solution, cut up the buff adaptor so I keep the left hand thread. I had
made spacers back in the day to fit said wire wheel to the 6" grinder, drilled to
suit the 16mm shaft. I thought some extra width would come in handy. So
I turned down a 16 mm bolt I found in the misc bolt bin. Join the two
with hot metal and a spacer later I have was done. A spot of nut lock on the 16mm
nut as the grinder thread is left hand on that side for a reason and I was done.
Warning ffs anyone that uses wire wheels on anything wear your eye protection......
I personally know someone that has had a piece of wire from his eye. He kept his sight
but the story of being fully lucid as they pulled it out his eye, and as I have in the past
removed bits of javelin like thin horribly painful bits of evil from my flesh I can only recommend
safe practice....... So things in the workshop are not so forgiving.......

converted to ceramic belts, much win. I am considering
I proper work center type deal but that wait for now.

I got an Abbott n Ashby one last year for $380 ish including the Linisher. Single handedly the most used tool in the shed. The wire wheel is ace for cleaning bolts, but i recommend using pliers to hold them. Sucks balls big time when ya finger runs into the wirewheel.

And this is the 6", white for high speed steel, green for carbide and tungsten.
If I catch anyone using anything else on those wheels I'll break their fingers.....

So there I was partaking in my
Bi-yearly grass mowering. When in a shower of glowing hot metal my cutter deck belt tensioning pulley decided that 30years hard time was more than enough. It was found dead on the seen. It's roller bearings lifeless stained blue, like still warm carcasses ready to rot in the hot sun. Testament to the shear vicious ruthlessness of the dark overlord "friction"......... Maters only darkened when spares, money and time were found somewhat wanting when asked to once more go into the breach and this my dear friends brings us to the point of this story...... Necessity is indeed the mother of all invention.......

Trust me si if I could that's exactly what I would have done,
Thing was just to far gone, the pulley itself collapsed whileknocking
the barrings out forcing my hand. The mower is a 30 + year old diesel kobota
held together with a unwillingness to die. I never care for it, never spend money or time
on it, so this was a welcome change

free time in the shop for some more work on my plans for the work space, it is
never a bad idea to revisit areas you thought were done. As your work evolves
so should your workspace....

The bench that sat next to the pillar drill got used mostly to store all the shit I didn't know
what to do with, so got abrasive on its arse and cleaned up the act.

So it turns out I can make mistakes......... My mistake was being so far off chops when welding up these brackets for the new metal rack I said to myself. "Fuck it I wont clamp these down as I weld them, how far could they possibly warp"......... Well as it turns out a lot seems to be the correct answer. Well enough to be cough " out side of acceptable tolerance " cough cough

To be honest, I really did fuck up. I had to think of a solution to bend 50x25x3 mm rhs back straight after some twat welded shit in the way. Not nearly as simple as one might first think. My solution may not be on the top of every bodies list but let me assure you, it was by far the easiest I could come up with at the time and I got very very lucky.

so 18 mths ago I grabbed some engine machining tooling that came up, one of the items was a
old warren and brown Australian made valve grinder. Over all it was in great condition with only
a few things to fix. With the time off and a stand still on other workshop projects till funds improve
I took the opportunity to clean and inspect it. Well things got out of hand and it received a full pull
down. All moving parts cleaned and repacked with grease. A drive spring, one belt and a messing oil
pump are looks all that need to be sourced. I am waiting to see if the off size roller bearing can be sourced
as well but it and its counterpart seem in good order after cleaning and packing so I might just reassemble as is.

so I keep finding uses for my fab table. I'm using 25mm precision ground bar as part of the set
up for weld out of this section of the frame jig. Needed a groove exactly half way for the plum bob,
set up made easy. Then when machining I noticed the brand new bar had a bend. Once I measured it
I was surprised to find it was actually 0.74mm bent. After some short panic I came up with this solution.
Rather chuffed to discover straightening it was way more easy than I could have hoped for.

this set up is killing me.......

for the rest of the system to work properly these points have to be spot on and
trust me that is painful. Spot on is hard enough on one plane, two planes is a pain
but in three planes is just fucking horrible........
There is nothing i can do to stop it all moving a touch when its welded out even with a good weld sequence and strong clamping,so the closer
i am before i start the better.

http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n493/ozzy1100/E9676A62-F186-412E-83C4-981C9B855201_zpszqxi2dfh.jpg (http://s1136.photobucket.com/user/ozzy1100/media/E9676A62-F186-412E-83C4-981C9B855201_zpszqxi2dfh.jpg.html)

.

I was only going to use the mig wire to square the alignment to the center line
via triangulation, then i realised i could easily use some of the jig parts i used for the drag bike build to give me a second way of verifying.
