Long story behind this one but in short.

Barn find rare 92 a8 with 33'000ks.

After alot of time and $$'s blue slipped and green slipped rolled up to registery to be told
"sorry mate stat write off never to be registered again in nsw"

i was told that it was originally a repairable write off and because of teh new laws it had rolled to a stat.

So i hunted downa new frame and went to work changing everything over as well as building another one to use as daily transport.

I had a vision of wanting one looking like this.46854685

And ended up with this - i still need to change the exhaust to an termigoni i picked up and remove the rear fender.

I have already fitted a zzr600 17" rear wheel and a set of fat bar risers and fat bars.

I thought the wrtite off laws only applied to bikes under 15 years old.

Seen plenty of bikes advertised by the auction houses that are not on the wovr because of age.

I guess it depends on when the bike was put on the register - if it was written off 10 years ago as a 92 model......

Still, automatically making rep write-offs into stat write-offs is a pretty low act.

Mate i'm not sure but I was at then registery for ages when trying to get it registered.

It flagged as soon a s they put in then vin number as a stat " never to be registered"

Not 100% on then laws but they told me it had been listed as a repairable about 9yrs ago and because of the laws changing 31st of January 2013 he told me and I quote.

" Any thing listed as a repairable write off that has not been reregistered before that date automatically rolled over to a stat write off "

As far as im aware it's for everything?

But correct me if im wrong because id love to rebuild this bike back into the 92 frame as it is now a 92 in a 86 frame :(

Changed the rear fender out for a cut one I had, cleans up the rear and lets you see the fatter rear tire.

Running fat bars and risers rather than the clip ons.

This also aloud me the slide the fork legs through the clamps about 20mm to sharpen up the steering and also compensate for the 17" rear wheel.

Who made that exhaust mate?
Does it foul the oil filter cover?

damo1

Hi mate the exhaust is a Formula 1 made by magnum exhausts.

Yes it clears the oil filter cover and you can run the fairing as well no problems at all.

Righto bit of an up date.

After Kev got me onto unicorn and a zx9 complete front end it was time for the resto mod to continue.

The front end was shipped and arrived from vic.

A quick inspection all seemed fine , I cleaned it up and ripped the triples off for a stem swap with the original gpz unit.

Off to me trusty mate Exben for this little mod, he also trimmed off the zx9 lock stops and drilled tapped and added bolts and spacers for the new ones.
A spacer was needed for the top triple as well to space and well and the triple and also take the smaller stem.

A day later I had the triples back and was ready for action and 4 hrs in the garage.

The front end slipped in and the body work needed a little trim as a result of the bigger forks and triples.

last but not least put it all back together and test ride.

I still need to pull the front wheel and repaint it , and repair and paint the front guard.

Other then that it was a pretty straight forward swap and a much improved ride and feel to the bike.

The bike looks tough as.

Ill get some better images up once I get it outside in the day light.
