Anyone got any idea as to the best factory-fitted radial calipers? ie not mega expensive aftermarket Brembo Monoblock bling...
Are the Yam R1 six potters the same 108mm fitting as other Jap stuff? And are they any good? Heavier than the earlier Yam 'gold star' four potters?
The reason I ask is the Gixer Thou K4 ones I have are a bit shabby (a lot) and rather than go ahead and strip, clean, machine, anodise and rebuild I wondered if there could be a better option...

the R1 six pots are a wider mounting spacing than regular, so without adaptors they won't work.

Here is a pic I had of the piston sizes Dave if that helps with stuff maybe someone can explain some fancy info behind bigger is better or what not.. 04/06 R1 are also 108mm caliper centres.. but not the six potters..

Hey Dave, I'm sure that you've probably heard of these people but if not they do a caliper refurbishment as an option

Thanks Monty & Gitzy. Looking at those pics it does appear that the R1 calipers are smaller and (probably) lighter. I like light.
Funnily enough Simon, I was talking about ppowerhouse last weekend - my bird is matey with a bird whose bloke works there... (Yes, that is a bit convoluted...) but worth thinking about, f'sure. Hmmm, wonder if I can get a discount...

I'm using 05 R1 monoblocks on 03/04 gixxer1000 forks with a 5mm spacer (R1 runs 310's and got 320 discs on the trumpy)

Revisiting this thread, as I've been thinking about the conversion again... thank fuk that Si saved the forum and I was able to look at this again...

The R1/R6/MT09 monoblock calipers are still pretty bloody good. Light, and great big gobs of stopping power.

When I get chance, I'm going to weigh (wahey!) the gold spots and the Suzuki calipers to see the difference...
