Hey Rod that's a pretty impressive piece of kit you've got there. When I saw you with it recently I was amazed at how effective it was at managing your pain.
On a side note here at work we get so many referrals for people that have become addicted to opiate based pain medication such as Oxycontin through less than impressive prescribing practices of their GP's. It's great to see then that such technology exists that will hopefully over time allow people the opportunity of effectively managing their pain without the need of using highly addictive drugs.

I hear you there, Rod.
I had a spill November last year and ended up with broken ribs and toe.
I was on oxy for a few weeks and it was months before I was off the shit. Never again will I take that stuff.

That looks interesting, I've been on Dihydrocodeine for the last ten years because of severe pain in my back and legs from a bad bike smash in '03. I did lots of my own physio using JD and Dihydrocodeine to get my left hand usable again after shattering 14 bones in it.
Never be holding onto a handlebar when it hits a car and bends 90 degrees backwards out of the switchgear, 'cos it makes yer hand look like a bag of sausages and ketchup that someone opened with a hammer.
Soaking it in a warm basin of water and getting wankered on JD and pills before starting to bend my fingers with my other hand. It still fuckin' hurt like hell, but I was too fucked to mind much :p It was worthwhile as I have about 65/70% function again which I didn't expect.
Fracturing my Cocyx wasn't nice though nor opening my pelvis up a bit, which is where the nerve damage was done, it would be nice to get off the meds if one of these would work. What sort of costs are involved long term with them?

BANDITROD
08-08-2013, 09:38 PM
not sure about the long term costs as its all covered by my workplace insurer but the op cost $45k

Dynomutt
15-08-2013, 01:31 AM
fuck me sideways, that's not cheap!!! I will have to have a chat with my doctor about that one, as whether the cash strapped NHS will shell for that remains to be seen. It's probably cheaper for them to keep ramming me full of pills for the next 30 years or so. Private isn't an option for me at that price, unless they sell a DIY kit for me to do myself;)

I was in hospital once the guy next to me had a matchbox size unit in his stomach that was plugged into his spine to transfer messages from his nerves ,someone stomped on his spine playing union ,worked for him good party trick to as you could see the outline of the box in his guts, oops dont remember swallowing that !

Hey Rod I hope you've got good security on your wireless thingy. I was speaking to one of our doctors at work here and she said that there has been a big security scare and a lot of debate about wireless security with wireless medical devices.
There is a concern that terrorist organisations or just plain evil bastards will hack into peoples wireless modules and get their devices to do things that they shouldn't. Such as hacking into an insulin pump and administering a lethal dose of insulin or reprogramming pacemakers and so on and so forth.
This kind of attack could potentially affect tens of thousands of people with dramatic and even fatal results.Apparently the people that make these devices haven't or didn't take security too seriously as they didn't really consider the concept of people hacking into their devices to cause pain, harm or even death.

Scary stuff

when i got T boned on the bike my first 4 days of operations on my foot to save it was $63k and ive had 50hrs more surgery since. i was lucky as TAC covers me and not workcover thank christ

BANDITROD
15-08-2013, 07:38 PM
yeah TAC is good to deal with compared to workcover

hooligan
15-08-2013, 08:10 PM
My workers comp claim took 4 years to finalise, that was just a broken scaphoid. Over that time, it was about $80k worth of surgery and physio, etc.
most of it was the physio every couple of days for a year and a half though. After reading your threads, I got off lightly.

yeah ive followed your posts and it seems that you have had a pretty shitty run dude and as much as tac have gave me the shit ova time im still greatful ive not had to deal with workcover. i had a little slide down the road just before my big accident and that was covered by workcover and it took them 6-7 months to pay me for 2 weeks wages and even at that i had to keep on them for the money and in the end i just told them to go fuck them selfs coz i cbf no more.

BANDITROD
15-08-2013, 08:36 PM
