What you looking for bloke ? smashing goats/pigs or something for deer ? Ultra lite stuff is really good now with speeds up over 340 fps at weights under 3.5 pounds, A high country pro x10 will cost you a grand though. If your just smashing goats/pigs and not walking up and down big fucking hills go for something heavyer and dont stress on the speed so much something around 310 fps is just fine and good second hand stuff can be had for under $450 try here for ideas.

How much do you want to spend and do you want to hit what you just stalked.

Talk to this guy, tell him I sent you .... he has a large shop from his home and lives across the back lane from me, he will sell you what you need not stitch you up like so many of the others will. He sells bows all over Australia.
http://www.archeryaddiction.com.au/target/distributor/contact.asp

I (http://www.archeryaddiction.com.au/target/distributor/contact.asp) use the same bow for target and hunting, I just use heavier gear to hunt with and bolt on another set of pins.
Elite have a few very good bows but they are not cheap, with archery you get what you pay for.
If you want to go cheaper just tell Lloyd how much you want to spend, he has new bows to suit or he may have a very good second hand bow there, a lot of us leave our old bows there on consignment and he sells them for us.

Some of the big companies like Mathews have a "blue and white" ( Mission ) brand type of product that they sell, usually their older tech bows but anything newer than 2006 - 7 is probably the most recent major advance in designs.

Just remember shorter axle to axle is less forgiving, the faster it is the less forgiving, the shorter the brace height the less forgiving, so ideally something 34" + A2A, 7"+ brace height and up to 340fps are usually pretty good. Ask him for a smooth draw cycle too, some speed bows have a real hump in the draw cycle that can fuck around with your back and shoulder. With these new bows unless you are hunting big game like buffalo or scrub bulls you can easily get away with 60lb.

funds depends on how much tax I get back what do you think of the bow in the ebay link stu I can get it from the states about $200 bucks cheaper than anywhere in Aus

It's cheap !!! but ask Lloyd what he's got in that price range.

It's a bit slow, twitchy (left to right) you will need an arrow rest so +$60, whisker biscuits are fucked, it's short axle to axle will make it twitchy, so anything out over 30mtrs could be a bit hit and miss, maybe dinner plate group if you tune it ok.

It has parralel limbs and a string supressor, two actually, why two it beats me, must have been a bit noisy, split limbs, jury is out on whether they are good or meh, some say it stops cam lean, some say it's no difference, personally I've had better success with solid limbs.

It's got a bow quiver, so you save $80 there.

Personally I wouldn't buy it but if I only have $500 it'd probably go on the list.

I'll have a look and see what else is out there in that price range and post it back here later...

See how it's a cam and wheel, these are usually not as fast as a dual cam bow.

Parralell limbs make it quieter and less hand shock on the shot, they feel nice to shoot and the are quieter so good if you fuck up your first shot because you are nervous and excited you may get a second shot off, if you shoot an old bow like my old Darton the animal has a heart attack when they hear the bow fire and then about a minute later the arrow gets to them, but they are still in the same spot due to the heart attack.............it was a cunt of a bow..

PSE...........Pull........Shoot.........Explode... . They got a bad name a few years back, their bows tended to be less than reliable, I actually know of one that got wrapped around a tree at the 2006 IFAA worlds lol.

They say their new stuff is better but I've never shot one that was comparable to anything any good. They say they are fast but that usually means they just miss real quick.

US ebay and this forum http://www.archerytalk.com/ are the places too look for good second hand stuff, the yanks just trade their gear in for the next shiny toy every year.

Always liked my crossbow nothing else we had would shoot through dads archery targets and keep going through the fence/etc. but licenses are now required for them :(

You guys need a fuckin' licence for a crossbow? how fucked up is that. Thaankfully in the UK we don't need licences for either crossbow or bows, although that will likely change in the future as they seek to remove anything that could be used as a weapon. I know your firearms laws are pretty fucked up like ours are, we can't have anything with a barrel less than 300mm and the whole thing has to be o shorter than 600mm overall. No semi auto centrefire, only rimfire, but bolt actions are fine in centrefire as are straightpull AR and AK variants, we also have a 9mm AR variant which is lever release. Revolvers aren't banned here but do need to conform to the length limits, I was shooting a friends .44 magnum a couple of weeks ago with 300mm barrel. Semiauto pistols in .22lr also have to conform to the lengths as well, but there's a couple of companies offering the 1911 variants in .22lr, and we can have .22lr AR15 and AK47 variants as well as MP5, MP44, and M1 carbine all in .22lr, and of course the ubiquitous Ruger 10/22 rifles which I shoot regularly.
We are ok with shotguns pump and semi as long as they hold only 2 in the mag and one in the pipe and have barrels of 600mm minimum.
Even air rifles have to be below 12lb/ft muzzle energy or a section 1 FAC is required,( same as normal rim and centre fire rifles) My old Air Arms Khamsin was just on the limit and when I had it all tuned and resprung it was 28lb/ft requiring an FAC for it, so I had it converted back to standard. Air pistols must be no greater than 6lb/ft or they become section 5 prohibited weapons.
I haven't had a bow for about 20 years or so, as hunting with bows of any description is banned here, so I sold my compound and crossbows.
What sort of prey are you allowed to hunt over there with bows? Over here we need at least a .243 rifle to hunt deer with.

For the traditional recurve shooter you won't get better than these, no stacking and a piece of art.

WTF.........hunting is more important than National Target shooting, accuracy is paramount. You pull back on a once in a life time claim you don't want to be second guessing your fucking gear..

Redmohawk

If your not confident of hitting what your intending to in the point you plan, Ie kill shot wtf are you doing letting it go ? One shot on kill is the only way to play. Thats why I shoot to kill and play with a bow into targets (elbow is fubar anyhow, let alone me being a crap shot with it)

StuNVA
14-08-2013, 05:50 PM
Too right, one shot kill is the go.
Those bloody things can run a long way with an arrow hanging out their arse, usually straight up or straight down a blood great hill for you to chase them after.
Not to mention the inhumane death.

Redmohawk
14-08-2013, 07:23 PM
Tell me about it. I tracked a spikey up and down hill for what felt like 10 km once , shot him with a 308 out about 30 m was a very steep down hill shot (almost above him) a just F'd it up (didn't allow enough for almost vertical shot) Missed his spine by 6 inches came out on the same side just behind diaphram. Fucker lost a fair amount of blood but ran flat out for ages. Finally caught up with him dead , me almost as fucked puffing and panting like an old steam train. (checked the Gps he had gone 900m as the crow flys but prob more like twice that considering the hills).

Still tasted great , But it made me realise talking up and down hills to find a possably pissed of animal suffering wasnt something I was keen on doing again. Life is about suffering for most in the wild we are the only ones that give a rats, but I'd rather they didn't on my account. Pigs at the abb's suffer more than that bugger did I'd say, But I was rather pissed at myself for fucking it up.
