No more shims, a big thanks to Hooligan for selling back the GSXR triple, and to Exben for the advice.
The new top yoke, I cut away the key hole and grinded the front to mount the gauge and gave it a bit of a polish.

It's OK for riding around the city mate.
I wouldn't be overly keen to depend on it on a dark country road.

Even on a badly lit city street they are shit. I had an Acerbis LED Vision. Looked the goods but wouldnt light shit. I actually went to Jaycar and bought some high intensity LED downlight bulbs and plumbed those in.

As I previously stated I have no problems with the light output.

Went for a ride today and unfortunately snapped my exhaust hanger.
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb236/rod185651/Ninja/IMG_1166.jpg
So I am going to fix it, with this.

http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb236/rod185651/Ninja/IMG_1169.jpg
I'm unsure how long it will last, but I am pretty happy with the result.
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb236/rod185651/Ninja/IMG_1172.jpg
I then grabbed an old guard I had from a K1 gixxer, plastic welded a small crack
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb236/rod185651/Ninja/IMG_1171.jpg
Then I trimmed it down using a grinder, I'm unsure if I should trim a little more off.
Suggestions?

Hey Rod, don't want to worry you, but you may get some fractures in the guard (or it hitting the forks) from only supporting it at the front when you get up some speed or hit bumps mate. Give it a good thrashing before you make the long trip down to the NFR and find out half way.

Thanks Si, didn't think of that to be honest. I'll give it a good ride before I paint it this weekend......

You know Si, six years later and that guard is still going strong on Ian's ZX7R

Funny thing is I still remember after your post, walking out to the shed, checking the guard for "flex" and thought to my self nah it'll be right. But on the NFR that year I was pleasantly surprised the front guard lasted.

Ha, Because I only had one hole on the front of my fork leg I had to create a 2 holed bracket to simulate what you have there. That bracket and mounting has now broken twice in the same amount of time. It now has a rear brace as well. Seems 2 fix points on the front of the fork is a winner then!
