Bar End issues (again)

You may recall recently I had an issue in that I could not get the bar ends off my bike to put 'bar end mirrors' on well guess what after Wayne suggest that I persuade it to come off with a drill I did. Now that I have the bar ends off there is some sort of beveled piece attached to the bar with the thread inside it, obviously I need to remove said beveled piece however it appears to be made of metal something akin to play-dough because I put vice grips in it and try and wind it out but all that happens is bloody great chunks of metal come off.

Any suggestions?

Run a large drill up it. Alternately , shoot me the measurements of it and I'll see if I have a set laying around.

Are you familiar with what I am talking about Wayne? How are they held in the bar? If I keep persisting with the vice grips will this thing eventually come out?

Buy one of those cheap dremel tool copies from your local suparippoff and grind the fucker out!!!

Yeh I know the type. They are a jam fit and were probably originally pressed in. Soak it in boiling water for a while and then have a go. Over the years these often become loose and the only thing that holds some in is the build up of dirt . Worth a shot. I generally never bothered cleaning then left overs out but when I had to I used boiling water & brute force.
