View Full Version : Fuck you private health cover!

Some of you know I was rushed to Hospital last week in not very good shape and am currently being tested for Bowel Cancer.

I need a colonoscopy so I get in touch with the public service.
"Its almost 14 months to get it done on medicare"

Ok I said. So I call my Private Health Fund

"Its almost 12 months wait to get it done where you want to go"

Ok I said so I could drop dead in the time it takes to get in and get the fucking test.
So I ring the Endoscopy center direct...

"Oh im sorry its a 12 month wait for heath care patients we are so busy"
"Ok how much for cash?"
"We can get you in on the 4th June"

So I rang my private insurance back and told them to shove the full cover up their arse and took out primium ambulance and extras instead.
Fuck this fucking American system. I dont mind paying but what the fuck am I paying my private health a fortune for???

Rant over

Weasel, I pay full health cover costing me quite a bit every month. When I had my knee reco done last year I still ended up with about $2,500 out of pocket, so go fuckin figure. On the plus side I had it done 3 weeks after it was diagnosed rather than 18months at public hospital.

Hope you manage to sort it out mate, and best of luck

i was looking at having to get toric rings put in my eyes (to stabalise the shape of the cornea)
they were counting it as elective in the same catagory as laser eye surgery even though there would be ZERO improvement

my brother told em to get fucked over a similar issue as yours weasel, they truly are cunts (thats if you can even get them on the phone from my experience!!)

I'm not quite sure I understand this one.If you're being tested for bowel cancer then surely your oncologist would be making the referral or if not hooked in with an oncologist then the ED treating doctor should be making the referral.I'm don't understand why you're making a self referral for a colonoscopy.
If on the other hand your GP is investigating you for bowel cancer then any investigative referrals should be being made through your GP.
I'm not sure if you can make self referrals for a colonoscopy but if you can I'd still be looking to getting a referral via a doctor cause doctors referrals ALWAYS take priority over self referrals in my experience.
Rather than spit your dummy out with your private health insurance I'd be looking at the process instead and see if the process can expedite the referral.

Of course he has a referral from a doctor, where in the world did you get the idea it was a self referral??

The first line clearly states he has been in hospital... He has in fact been to 2, 2 hospitals = 2 EDs. Not to mention the GP.

Some of you know I was rushed to Hospital last week in not very good shape and am currently being tested for Bowel Cancer.

Not only that, he even gave the date he's booked for the colonoscopy - June 4th, which is 2 weeks away. Expediting it further is not possible, the whole point of the post was regarding the waiting times for the coverage.

Perhaps he didn't go into too much detail, but all you need to get the facts are there, so next time read and reread the post before making yourself look silly.

P.S Weasel says: "Fuck off dickhead."

hmmm weasel it all your fault for riding a bloody kwaka mate !!!
ur rear end hates you for it !!!

but seriosly tho, the point of private health is a cut in waiting time, cut in cost "you still have a gap to pay"
we have top line cover with australian unity and i had some dental work done still had to pay the gap so to speek but it was $1000 work and i paid $350 health providor paid the rest .
contact ur provider and ask who is their prefered surgen, doctor ,proctologist etc for your problem and they will tell you then book in , yes sometimes you have to wait .
just remember ur not the only kwaka arse infected rider with these concerns ,only a 4th june wait isnt that bad !!

I have had 2 colonoscopy for different reasons both on private health cover, got in both times within a couple of weeks. I had to drive about 50k for the first one due to the local branch being booked out. Is there other joints you can go to?

When I had to get my knee done i got the doc to ring the specialist and make my appointment as they are always booked out weeks in advance. Was in 5 days later.

All my experience with private cover has been positive so far.

Something seems a bit odd because i would think if they really think you need it you would be in quick sticks.

Hope you sort it out and get well soon

"Its almost 12 months wait to get it done where you want to go"

I agree with Simon on this, they don't fuck around if there is a real cause for concern.
Why are you booking yourself into this op?

You doctor should be doing it and why don't you get him/her to try somewhere else.

Do you have to go to this place "where you want to go"?
On the referal there will be many places that you could go and get the op done, why not try somewhere else?

Sucks to hear about your problem but there are always other options.
Your stressed and not thinking straight, sit back and start again.

Mate are you blind? I am being referred.

I live in a rural area and drive interstate for a living.
I had a 2 day wait for bloods after I got out of hospital and I had to get back on the hwy to stop me going broke.

Don't sit there and harp on about what they should do when they Arnt doing it.
I was referred and the waits on public and private are to long so I'm using my referral and paying cash to get in faster because I want to know why I'm so sick.

I've got enough to deal with without adding idiots to the equation.

Living in a small country town, there aren't always other options. As it is, the clinic is an hour away, so while "somewhere else" might be practical in the cities, we are no longer part of that world.

How rural are you?

Given the small amount of Info we have and knowing that the op is a day op that has you not driving the next day so you will be off work for 2 days regardless is it possible to try and book it in a lager town or city and get in quicker?

I understand you have booked in and are paying up front so hopefully that will give you the answers you you need

I guess living in the country has its draw backs from time to time.

why have pvt health if you pay by cash you get in within 2 weeks !! or did i read it wrong ??
unless ive missed something we all hate the fact ur unwell and with the possibility of having ur gut cut out due to rust issues we all agreed in a roundabout way that pvt health aint good but quicker than public!!

We are quite rural, the closest big town is Wagga at 100kms away. We have booked in the op in Wagga, which is an hour from Tumut.

It is a day op, but he needs to be near a bathroom 2 days beforehand, and given the hour drive from home to Wagga, he will be needing a hotel room for those 2 days. Plus the day off work.

Albi, in regards to costs - There are a lot of things going on at the moment, so while money is no issue when it comes to his health, the week off, the op and the accomodation before the op will be quite costly - which increases the stress.

Deano

You don't need a hotel for 2 days before hand. If you are booked in for say 9am like I was you start taking the stuff about 5pm the night before, shit like there is no tomorrow till say 9pm then you are pretty safe to drive the 100km the morning of.

That's what I did when I had mine done. I booked it in for a Friday so just left work half hour early on the Thursday and weekend are days off for me so only had 1 sick day.

Do you get sick days as these will be covered if you do or have any left that is.

what he said, i have them annually, I see my doc who then reffers me then the specialist gets me in and i get sorted always with a couple of days. I never have to do more than a clear out the day before and thats normally all done and dusted by early evening, Used to be different with the 4 bottles of saline solution, but now tis fine the next day the drive to the hospital is never a concern but you cant drive home so its a two man job thats for sure. When your full of gas after the 'inspection' thats when the fun begins.

I used to get sorted in Sydney at concord hospital and now its on the Gold Coast at Allamanda private. Cant ever remember it being more than two weeks wait though From initial phone call to me getting driven home

If this is about private cover i dont have an issue, i think the complaint should be 'fuck cuntry health services'

And i concur with others the drugs are good.

Good Luck weasel hope it all checks out ok in the end ......

Right sorry Albi and lads for loosing my cool. It was a very tense time.

As for the procidure they discovered a medium size colonic polyp and removed it. Tests are pending to see if it was cancerous.
The Doc was rather worried bout the fact that I had them at all considering they dont normally occur till a mans 50's.

So waiting list or not. Paying cash might have seriously saved me rather than waiting 3, 6, or 12 months for the test.

Good to hear your prob Ok bloke, Dad sez polyp in people below 50 isnt as uncommon as some doctors think (due to diagnosis only after symptoms or reason to go looking) High blood pressure, drinking to excess often, smoking, a crap diet, and little excersise are all key factors. Even sitting upright without moving (using your core muscles) can add to other causes.

Good luck anyhow bloke. I'd eat an apple a day just in case.

Its a growth in mucus membranes anywhere in the body nose etc , look a little like a mushroom . There are flat ones to, if they are smaller than an inch they are usally not cancer. The growths can turn so when found are removed.
