ok so most of you lot will know since 2007 i could never post good sized pics !
well now i have learnt lol, and always deppended on GITZY to post for me but now no more ,a man has to walk on his own two feet , so without further adue here we go .
sit back relax and be prepaired to piss urself at my attempt of spelling and picture taking and story telling.
it was a bright sunny day and i was sick of my GS thou taking ages to do so i went out to ponder a new begining ,well and a chance to tyre kick some bikes heheheheh.
walked into GRAHAM BOYDS suzuki dealership here in newy and asked if they had any s/hand bikes for sale around $2500 , his reply "will a TL1000S do " next thing i have a rego paper in pocket and deal is done time to take home and all that was on my mind was fighter it!!

re routed throdle cables via right hand side of stem so they fit good,hmm should just get lengthend huh!

as most tls riders know the std clutch cable is 90 deg and is crap ! so i used a GS 500 one its 2 inchs longer and works well just need to trim down later on ,maybee!

as you can see ive applied a black quide coat " plain old gloss black" but didnt lay it on wet just enough to give a base to sand and find any hi and low points " its all in the prep with paint". i always use warm water and dishwashing liquid here i was using 600 grit to cut back it cleans,lubes and sands back very easy.

as you can see with the fresh water on it there are only minor divots in tank,some more filler n sanding here .

now i did this under my car port on ANZACS DAY a few yrs ago, and the weather was purfect,was so hard not to have a few drinks for my grandparents that faught in WW2 for the british army my nan drove a BLITZ and gave birth to my uncle on the moement the yanks droped the first A-bomb in edenbourgh castle and both have lived a strong good life but now departed

now ive got three coats of clear on at this stage and as you can see its getting dark ,but as a typical male i had to lay last coat on , and they were the last great words on that day lol, i rushed the final coat and got a few runs in the top coat o clear argggggggg
some people think my coulr choise is a bit wierd for my seat in its current form but as you can see in the pic of red leather "scottish red leather mind you " i was already thinking of way out coulors then for the seat !

now my TLS is also my daily rider at this stage so the bugger had to be put back together for the next day "yes i know it needs time to cure but !!
it is a daily rider had to get to work no matter what !!
it was 4 in the morning and the heat lamps were running al night long ,wife was not impressed.
i had to make a rack for the bag to carry my lunch and work gear and had run out of funds to by one , so i did what ever it took to make one !
alright well after riding her to work day in day out at 4 am in the morning till 7pm for at least 6 months , swapping this for that ,doing a deal here ,deal there "no not drugs" of all places "egay".
ive finally got some coin together for materials n shit to get ready for my first AFR ride ,

all primed ready for base coat, i just used PPG 2K solid for the wheels and i also painted inside the rim aswell to help prevent airbleed from tyres as sometimes alloy can be porus!!

im going to swap out ,well i did swap out the 99 model 6 bolt and fitted the 5 bolt from my 97 donk .

i needed a way to work on motor and make life easy !!
and also to paint n prep, so i used my engine stand for car engines and used some piston gudgen pins "wrist pins to some" to mount the support braces as they are the right size .
2 hours work and it works a treat.

i hate over spray and i hate very hate when an engine is painted with gaskets in place etc i like the look of fresh paint and new gaskets .
here im using CAT tape ??? wtf ?? you ask , well in road transport and earth moving CATAPILLER use a alloy tape to seal etc and works well in my application.
im using a 1/4 drive socket to roll the edges to pinch the tape for a neat finish.

hooley dooley the fun starts,wat i love doing . prep work it all needs to be clean so im using applicator pads used for applying the primer when fitting windscreens,and at first i used thinners hten went over with wax and grease remover,oh and now ive brought it all inside to the garage put up tarps and hung an old fan to get rid of fumes n shit .

i took my clutch cover and stator covers to my local locksmith/engraver @ the local shopping centre ,the poor bugger has never engraved anything like it ,so he did it all for $30 just he could say yes ive dont it .
on the right side ive got my 3 x billylids "kids" and on the stator cover my wifs name with the ball n chain and her nickname.then i re cleared them to seal it in .

the frame and subframe has been etched primmed and 2 x coats of white 2 k high fill primer, @ this stage ive got just 1 month to have done for the ASF 2012 NFR.
so hight time to pick up top gear and get going.
here im sanding the high fill back with 800 grit wet n dry with warm water and dish washing liquid, i do this for a few reasons,
a- warm for my hands
b- cleans the oils from skin

well to be hounest i applied 6 coats o clear for a deep lustre and i didnt like the finish i had done s o i started to sand back to redo finish and whilst cutting it back i was chatting to big KEV @ VCM cycle seats and was runnignsome styles by him and kev and i brainstormed on ol school pinstripping, i remembered chatting to a fellow memebr "weaselman" and he told me about his mate VON DAZ in sydney and set up a day to goto get the pinstripping done.
so i had 4 days to sand,prep,basecoat and clear and then sand back top coat o clear for the stripping to adhere to , at this point i had a vision of two styles of paint and body work inwhich will be evident at a later date so sit back relax and enjoy the following pics.

bought a pollishing kit for a drill $40 at bunnings, sat down at work during lunch and used flapper wheel to de seam the alloy,then sat in front of tv watching v8 supercars ,hot water in bucket and wet n dry 1200 grit sanding sanding sanding .

the way im attaching the glass is via "dzus clip " made by moto ,they are the better design and use by many top level speedway teams ,there are cheaper ones but these dont vibrate loose or corrode, the one thing i dont like about them is the alloy fastner rubs the glass so ive used plastic sump plug washers to space out and protect the glass.

soo pissed at my self even with a good mig i still cocked up some of my welds farrrrkkk.
well appart from making the glass seat pan its all but up to date and im doing the pan over the next week or so!!

The clips for the sub frame / fibregalss tail section are the go. Nice job, I wish I had access to all that gear.
cheers stu , i want the tail end to be servicable, being a landie tech i hate having to pull 3/4 of a car appart to change the fuel pump belt , so im making sure with minimal fuss and tools i can pull the seat and tail off and have full access to the lot.
so access to to wat gear you talking about mate ??
most of bike has been done in shed at home.

most of the work i did on the lathe can be done in vise etc with a drill and hold ur tounge to the left lol
my mig at home is a gas/gasless unit from repco cost $400 on sale 4 yrs ago.
thats why i done the spot welds at home then took to work to use better mig.
well its glass time to make the seat pan sooo here we go .
after following milders mask from the UK on facebook fo a widdle while and seeing how he has done a seat mould ive followed his and redmoehawk from ASF on prep work to do my own seat pan.
after getting all the needed bits n pces i have obtained the following
1 roll of thick fibreglass matt
1 2lt jug o poly resin
4lt acetone "for cleaning"
1 roll of green masking tape "designed for staying on paint work for up 2 ten days "
1 roll of alloy tape from CAT used to wrap parts and also used in the refidgeration industry
1 500ml blue PVA
7 1 inch wide brushs
catalyst for resin
2 tubes or bags of paper coffee cups "thanks work hehehe
god knows how many paddle pop sticks"once again thanks work lol"
1 roller for removing air bubbles
1 box o black nitrile wurth gloves
and formost plenty of CANADIAN CLUB N DRY

as i dont want the resin to bugger the frame "even tho its a spare one" ive wraped it in black packing wrap "self sticks like glad wrap"
and with the finished seat i want it to hug the tank and seat base snuggly and not damage the paint at the same time so im laying down green tape to the seat base and tank.
then ive got 8 mm high dence foam and spray glued to the masking tape.
on top of that i layed down more green tape then applied the layer of alloy tape.

so i used the 25mm foam to infill said gap and wrap it up and in the end pics you will see why .

FOR THE FIRST LAY UP IVE PRE CUT A STRAND O MATT AND THEN CUT UP ENOUGH MATT THEN SO IT HAS STRENGTH YOU HAVE TO CHOP IT UP OR TEAR THE ENDS SO TO SPEAK SO THAT WAY WHEN YOU LAY THE GLASS YOU JUST OVER LAP CHOPPED ENDS AND IT BLENDS IN "IF YOU CUT AND LAY IT INTRODUCES A WEEK JOINT AND LOOKS UGLY.

back a few yrs ago when i used to do air conditioning work i got my elf a decent set of digi scales used for gas work,now i use them for anything ,even weighing up engine parts when ballencing or blueprinting!!

these steps i found that as the resin gets mixed by quanity not weight i decided to use the scale for muliple mixing!!
first step weigh cup
then pour a unit of water into cup of 100ml
mark in cup level and same on a paddle pop stick.
then transfer level mark into several cups
pour in poly resin to mark and set asside
i tried to measure the catalyst but as it is 2% mixing ratio
for 100ml i needed 2 ml of catalyst and didnt register on scale ????
well as i have kids and they always get crook we have endless supply of measure cups and syriges as low as 1 ml graduations , so no brainer i poured in syringe but so messy so i enptyed catalist into a seperate cup and used syringe to draw up 2ml and apply to each cup as needed.
mix mix mix very throughly and apply .

well this is were im up to , i now need to locate an old TLS seat so i can drill out the lock pin and fit to seat pan , make an hook assey for the lower section in pan so it hooks under the tank mount as the factory one does , then bolt it all up to EL-DUECE and take to big kev in sydney for foam and covering in roo skin.

now some of you here may now this man whom built this TLS SAM from the UK.
well he built it with an supercharger and modified the throdle bodys runs 750cc bosch injectors and custom airbox, now sam no longer has the supercharger fitted as it didn't suit his need for hillclimbing so he sold it all off and I got the throdle body set up so ive attached a build for his tls and also the construction of the airbox built by sam "not me "

in GITZYS blog he has an step by step procedure for fitting this kit
in sams kit is
2 x brake disc rotor spacers
4 x radial calliper mount bolts
4 x radial calliper mount spacers to space the callipers out from lower forks to clear the rotors
1 x axle spacer

your right to go less angle on the bars, before it was like riding one of those kids pushies from the 70's
ok so under my top yoke is a fair bit o room and it looks soooo ugly
so ive found some alloy stock and poped over to GITZYS home and had a look at his stem seal from vandriver.
and decided I can make a better one for my application.

nice one albi, as a bonus it should also help prevent wheelies :)
ok today I finished of the seat pan so I can take to my mate big kev to do the rest of seat , I used the seat mount rubbers from my stock seat and fitted the side section that wraps around the tank to centralise it and also used the lock pin aswell , I then used 5mm rubber to trim the edges with so when the kangaroo hide goes on it wont rub on the edge of the fibre glass , I used wurth super glue.

yesterday I made my second version of the top stem seal as the first was made to suit slipping over the two top nuts , but it left a gap at the back of the top clamp and I didn't like it so I re done it with a smaller hole for just the top section of stem to poke through.
and yes im still not happy , when I get some more stock ill get a solid bar and not a block with a hole already drilled out hehe ,so you guessed it make a third one bit it will have the nut incorporated in it , so I will have the stem then the brg then washer then first adjusting nut and the washer ,then I will just screew the top stem seal down onto the adjusting nut and its all in one if you get what I meen

Nice, I was just thinking of doing something similar.

yeh mate its a camper trailer , it is a top trail.
love it mate but look around and have a good look at how to put them up , with the sides make sure they zip up and have Velcro aswell . the trick they use is trailers with all the trimmings and use cheap Asian tents, go for aussie made if you can afford.
ours is from china or somewhere in asia , not bad for what we paid but if I had my time again I would have gone aussie made and handed over more mulla.
either way well worth it ,

Apart from the the Carro's being sexy, the deep blue looks a hell of a lot better than the baby blue of the old wheels. Really nice.
