Any of you fellas had any experience with Rheumatoid arthritis, just been diagnosed with it, just fucken turned 40, and haven't been able to ride for about 10 weeks due to the fact I can't open the roller door to the garage without any pain. Fuck I even have to get me son to crack open a bottle of coke for me.
I'm seeing a specialist in a cuple of weeks but just wondering if anyone here has gone through it or had a mate who has. I need to fucking ride but when it feel like both hands are broken it's a bit fucking hard.

And no I'm not putting the Monster up for sale, and no I wont sell the wheels or brakes. ;)

In Russa they used ultra cold to treat the swelling with great success years back acording to a show called Beyond 2000. People were subjected to minus 40 deg c temps (whole body and individual limbs) . Ice water baths and hot water baths for the hands was one treadment to reduce pain and swelling. I dont think it was a perminant solution but improved pain and movement without drugs (and improved effectiveness of drug treatment)

i've heard all they can do is chop off your hands completely so i'm probably going to have to buy those wheels and brakes off you so you can afford to buy some prosthetics

Hi mate sorry to hear that. You will notice my username. It isn't because I'm a horny bastard and walk around with a permanent hard on.
I was diagnosed with this shitty disorder at the same age as you. I thought that my world as I knew it had come to an end. I was scared of walking on uneven surfaces in case I fell over because I knew that the pain would be unbearable and for that matter that I would not be able to get up off the ground. I was in despair because I thought that I would never again be able to ride bikes or do anything active.
I was lucky and got diagnosed early and treated properly. RA is an auto immune system wherein your auto immune system turns on itself and attacks itself.Your AI system attacks the linings of your joints, removing the ability of the joints to slide and rotate easily and causes inflamation and pain a bit like a bearing running without grease.
I was put on two DMARD's disease modifying antirheumatic drugs and now but for a little bit of stiffness and limited movement in my joints all is good.
RA is a disease and there is no cure BUT it is treatable. It is not osteoarthritis and does not respond to or be relieved by diet, heat cycles, phases of the moon or any other shit.Make sure you get a good specialist and good drugs and life can look breezy again.
If you want to talk about this mate please give me a call as I know first hand the sort of shit you'll need to deal with.

Cheers mate, I've actually found a great GP who actually cares rather than just taking blood pressure and sending you off. I'm off to see the specialist soon, she made sure she got the best one in the area.
I know it's one of those things that need managing rather than curing. I think being out of work helped as otherwise I would it just put it down to work and carried on as normal.
Thanks for the offer of a chat I'll take you up on that after I see the specialist, as I'll have a bit more info on how things are.

I smash the Glucosaine tablets, I don't have arthritis yet but it's coming in the not too distant future.

I have had carpal tunnel in my right wrist, blown tendons in both elbows and wrists.

I also have issues with my knees.

Glucosaine makes it feel good.

With the carpal tunnel I told to get quaterzone shots.
I went to a hand specialist and ended up in a cast for 5 months and it come good.

Shitty 5 months but no needles and no opps.

Fair enough but rheumatoid arthritis is a disease process and will not respond to dietary supplements such as glucosamine. As far as cortisoid injections are concerned they are, at best, a short term management inflammatory suppressant and not really recommended for ongoing management of rheumatoid arthritis.
DMARD drugs such as Salazopyrin and Methotrexate are the preferred initial treatment for RA but the Meth is a pretty toxic med and needs to be regularly monitored by your GP or rheumatologist.
As said before RA is not osteoarthritis brought on by wear and tear etc but is a disease process that needs to be monitored and treated by medical practitioners and is not affected by diet, supplements and so on.

From what I've gathered it's kinda like a rejection of your joints, as if you've had joint transplant without any anti-rejection drugs. Probably not correct.
Apparently it's in the major joints but most of the discomfort I've felt I've put down to wear and tear and coming off.
The funny thing is if the house we were renting didn't get sold and we didn't have to move I'd still be seeing the same old 2nd rate docs I had been for the last 5 years or so.

This is a great forum, not matter what you ask you get some great advice and the required amount of piss taking.
