I need a good 2nd gear for a Vmax, Yamahas are not the best, they're most unreliable
Finished getting my Bro's Vmax going today, took it for a spin & the fucker jumps out of 2nd gear :(
Did a google search 'Vmax gearbox problems' turns out 99% of Vmaxes suffer 2nd gear failure... the bloody things were made for over 20 years, the gearboxes were failing from the first model right to the last year they were made & Yam never thought to upgrade the fucking gearbox!?!?!?!?! Kunce !
Sorry for the thread hijack Russ, I just thought you should know that Vmaxes are shit & that your gearbox is going to shit itself when you finish your 'Max & ride it.
FUCK !

Are there any parameters I should check out...I'm thinking any modern r1/gsxr/z one should do...
Are there different types ?
Are they different for carbie and injection engines ???

I have some small in tank pumps kicking about here , I'll have a poke about in the shed tomorrow morning. Yours for postage if I can find a good one. Not sure If I have a compleat pump on stalk with mount base etc Might be one good one left.

How are you going to mount into tank ? Do you plan on welding the base out of a donor tank ?

Don't forget modern FI pumps will shunt out around 45psi, whereas pumps for carbs tend to be around the 4psi mark. You can use the FI pump but you'll need a good regulator to drop the pressure if running carbs, and a boost referenced reg if you are running blow through on carbs.

No luck in the shed bloke , only a few in line ones left and they're a little suspect. There is one in tank unit but its been sitting uncovered on a bench for prob 3 years , who knows what would come out of it , if it did turn over.

No worries mate...cheers anyway.

So....been looking at options....I can get a Holley reg for $50 that would give me 3-4psi from an efi pump...but that's just extra parts.....
Ideally I need an in tank, 3-4psi pump...or a neat compact external one.
There won't be any side panels...the tank has good shape and will be powder coated...and fully visible.
Ozzzy reckons there is such a pump but his brain is fried and can't remember last week let alone 10yrs ago.....

A standard rollercell pump (fuel injection) has the motor immersed in fuel with no harm, as long as your pump doesnt have any plastic on the outside that will be harmed buy direct fuel contact (I doubt any fuel pump manufacturer would be that silly) there should be no issue.

Fit a filter in the tank prior to the pump to hide it as well , as your planning a access panel in the top it would be easy enough to change a filter though that, If your after a nice clean/simple look.

Thread Hijack - Sorry.

Is a ZXR-750L fuel pump the same as a ZX9B pump. ie same fuel flow/pressure etc.

Cheers, Jed

what about a bosch pump like a car one , something easy to get like commodore simple setup cheap , or even like a vl commodore they had a low pressure lift pump in tank im sure that feed a external surely that would be enough for carbs , another silly idea but external holley blue fuel pump cheap too

I got a fuel tank from a LPG fitter for Dean,He cut the tank pump mount out and fitted it to his tank.

Then you have a good size access point and a pump mount.
