I just bought a set of wavy discs and when they arrived and I went to fit them to the bike I realised that they are too big. The set that they sent are 320mm and on my K4 the standard are 300mm (radial). Now, I can manage to slide the calipers in with the new discs, so should I just machine up a set of spacers and be done with it?

I have seen a few threads regarding when people have changed the discs on TL's etc...

Opinions people please...

I'd be inclined to send them back and get them replaced with the correct size discs myself mate.

Yeah, I actually jusy read their advert and it actually says 320mm for a K4. Must be the damn American market...

yes mate just make up some spacers will have a lot better braking

That kinda my thought too. Less force required on a larger diameter

put 320s on mine up from 310s lot better

Time to jump on the lathe Jules.

Gitzy, out of curiosity do you have the dimensions of the once you had machined up?

I just made some spacers for mine. No issues. I don't recall the gix having the spigot on the fork or caliper

I had some spacers made up when I put a gixer front end on my SV,they are 24mmOD and 10mmID and 5 mm thick and as Deano said no spigot .

You need them to be 10mm thick, and don't forget to use longer caliper bolts. I run 320mm Brembo HPK discs on my K series radial front ends. If you use the earlier gold calipers then you need 10mm thick spacers, and if you use the later black calipers then you need 5mm spacers. Make sure you get the correct geade of bolt for the calipers.
You'll get better braking with the larger diameter discs.

nevermind.. :o

The way I read the first post he says 300 is std and they sent 320 that is 10mm radius so 10mm spacer unless I missed something then I take it all back

Either way I am sure Jules gets the idea and can work it out himself. Would be even easier if he knows someone that can work a calculator

Cheers Deano,

Been messing with his bike all day and my head hasnt been at all there. should really go to bed i guess

I was just more curious as to why some spacers I had seen had the spigot machined in them. I'm just going to make a simple 10mm spacer, maybe 9mm actually if I can get away with it. Reason being is that the bolts have 20mm of thread and I would like to be sure that there is the min 10mm of thread engaged to provide full strenght.

My original question was not in regards to how to make up the spacers (that's pretty simple), more in how will it affect the braking. More is usually good, but within limits. Last thing I want is the front end locking up with little pressure applied to the lever.

You will be right mate. Go forth and make spacers
. I seriously can't tell the difference anyway on the road. The track may be different.

I run 320mm discs on mine and the braking is fine, the earlier K series used 320mm discs and had no issues, from memory the K3/4 mastercylinder is the same as the K1/2. I originally rane 320mm discs with the gold K3/4 calipers and K1/2 mastercylinder and the brakes were fine planty of power but with loads of feel. A 19mm radial mastercylinder will give an improvement and good feel. The K3/4 radial calipers/forks didn't have the location spigot that the later K5 onwards have, but they're nnot really needed. my Ohlins/Brembo set up doesn't have them and it's been fine for the last 6 years.

Cheers mate. Just the type of answer I was looking for.
