So it looks like I may have to opportunity to buy another daily type of bike and I have been thinking about a V-twin instead of an inline 4.

So my question is whats your V-twin preference and why ?

This question is also asked because I have been scouting bike sales etc and a buell might be worth considering too ?

Fire away lads.

I haven't really got my 'cruiser face' down pat yet, besides if i wanted to spend that much on a twin it would be an exotic thing not a fuckin' harley......

ya don't need a "cruiser face" just an open face helmet and one of those *insert graphic design of your choice* neoprene face masks.

and the motour was designed by Porsche, they build exotic cars don't they?

Hyosung do a "replica" for the budget minded, just change the tank badges.

THe only V twin I would consider is the Moto Morini Corsaro. Fuckin awesome motors, have all the right ingredients and look pretty cool also. I rode one a couple of years ago and couldn't stop grinning. They're hooligan. In the real world though you don't want a V twin you want a good late model Speed Triple as they are the most awesome of awesome stock bikes

mate bang for buck and as a daily rider for sheer comfort id go the "gulp" yamaha v-star 650 $10,500 ride away shotgun pipes ,re-jetted ,plus helmut and jacket.
the bloke whom hit my TL with an army landie bought 1 basicly the same week he hit my bike hmmmm
anyway for a daily v twin they also have great resale value so good that chad bought the new one instead as the low klms ones were only only $900 cheaper!!

Think you have the 'daily type of bike' thing the wrong way round, an IL4 is a daily rider, v twins are fucked as daily riders, sports v twins anyway, wouldnt have a clue about the cruiser types. I've owned TL1000, VTR1000, KTM superduke, various Ducati's and currently an Aprilia Tuono, and they've all been pretty ordinary as daily riders compared to an IL4.
But, as a weekend ride I find them to be much more fun, even though they're considerably slower than litre+ IL4's.

I would pick the one that has the best trade in / resale.
Then when I realise what a huge mistake I'd made
it'd be easier to go back to a big screaming 4 cylinder.

Perhaps I'm not the right person to ask !

** I do ride with guys with an Aprilia RSV and another
with a Ducati "Streetfighter". Both go REAL well !

Yep.

I have a VTR and have owned a TL. Couldn't wait to get rid of the TL and this is now my second VTR.

I commute on it daily. Goes as well as my 1200 bandit did every day of the week and sounds a million bucks.

Righto it seems that the tls is popular and so is the vtr, but I have to ask why ? Easy to live with ? Hooligan factor ? What else ?

TonyOW31, why in your opinion would a twin be a pain to live with being used as a daily ride ?

Simon, I might even consider a triple, truthfully they never even crossed my mind.....

I've got a big soft spot for Speed Triples BUT the Moto Morini bests the Speedy in my opinion. I've ridden Speed Triples, Tuono,Ducati Streetfighter, TLS, Suerduke and out of them all the Cosaro was the only one that made me laugh like an idiot.

the RSV is pretty awesome... but if your daily riding includes some slow traffic filled bits i would avoid it. its too "cammy" i think. It's a fuck load of fun otherwise, just too much effort in traffic.

My SV650 was an awesome daily ride that you could smash around some twisties as well. and to add the their appeal you can get them cheap as chips.

VTR 1000. Go down 1 tooth on the front and aftermarket cans (purely for the sound). If it's a daily ride with some weekend twisties thrown in, you wont be disappointed. If you need to do 200+ regularly, get an IL4

The VTR does everything well.
As I said, it is my daily ride and I think it is great. Dunno about this changing gears all the time stuff?? Mine pulls nicely from 2500 rpm so I just chug along in any gear, no problems.

I had a VTR firestorm for years great bike. A little work on the suspension and I could mix it with all but the fastest at the track or in the hills, it would wheel stand for ever, easy to do long trips on didn't get off all cramped up, sounds sweet you could push it hard shifting up and down or just pick a gear and ride all day. Down sides was thristy but I was geared -1+2 and have a heavy hand so that didn't help. Some people had cam chain tensioner problems but I didn't.

cant say i agree with that...

if u can get a cheap rsv thats local i'd go for it

there is something extra fun about threading a big twin side-to-side through moving traffic and punching out into the clear road out front. any with upgraded sports suspension and minimal weight would do the job

TonyOW31, why in your opinion would a twin be a pain to live with being used as a daily ride ?

For starters all mine have been thirsty as fuck compared to IL4's, power delivery tends to be no where near as smooth as an IL4, and they don't like pulling from low down, means more gear changes as Tony nitrous said. But if you ride em like a big motard, ie like a cunt, they are heaps of fun. Licence doesn't tend to last too long in that mode tho'.

The Buells boil your gonads and cook your right leg around town, in the summer time it's a bit too much. Otherwise an S model would be a better pick around town than a R. Knives cut and stones poke holes through the belt too. They are flat out at 220 too and redline at 7, I got bored with mine.

I went on a couple of rides with a guy who had a 1200 Moto Morini and he said it was a good bike, it was hard enough to keep up with too. He said the only real fault was the oil cooler coped a lot of stones and muck, but I think the newer ones have it in a different spot.
