Its a shit fight in the morning and afternoon on the gateway no matter which way you are travelling. In fact it resembles a car park north and south in some areas at peak times and getting worse. If you work on the northside its easier to live on that side of town.

Bad idea unless you have a helicopter.

It's not the worst part of the Gateway.
Below Mt Gravatt or up above Nudgee is much worse.
That part of the Gateway does get busy at your commuter hours,
but just as bad are the two ends, Old Cleveland Rd and the East/West Arterial.
The tunnel from Stones Corner will take you straight the Kedron (I live at Kedron)
but like the Gateway, the tunnel charges do add up if your boss isn't paying.
I do that route over the Storey Bridge / Valley / Gympie Rd but I miss the rush hour
traffic so I sail through and its toll free.
It's not an ideal commute but its do able.
I've done a lot worse. Worth it for a good job/house.
(I used to live at Carina Heights next to Carindale)

To really dumb it down......

A LOT of folk head for the city every morning
and head out of the city every afternoon.
a road that's jammed solid in a morning flows fast on an evening,
and the opposite for the other direction.

I find the two answers are:
Live near the city and work further away,
travel the opposite way to the traffic both morning and evening,
Or, get a job that works outside of the city/retail commute hours.

Don't worry about the Gateway, I just did,
1st job today at Loganholme (Southside)
2nd job at Brendale (Northside)
3rd job at Rockhampton... 670k's drive!!
Got a flight back to Brissy at 10pm and I need
to be at Deception Bay for 6am for the 1st job tomorrow.

I remember those days when i was a Jiggalo, but i would always knock back any job at Rockhampton or D-Bay.How times have changed?

Spent the last 9 years driving in and around Brisbane every day.
Earthworks, roadworks, installing traffic monitoring systems
and looking after a traffic control company's signs and vehicles.
Lived at Paddington (couple of months) then Carina Heights,
Alexandra Hills, now Kedron. Most of my current jobs are based
around a customer in Loganholme. I get a lot of K's in most days.

Travel from Mt Gravatt to Murarrie then all over the place every day. Unless there is a smash then I never have a problem. If you need to use to major roads into town then its a shit fight

True Bob.
I have a customer at Loganholme at the moment,
In a morning I cruise down South at 100kph as I'm heading
away from the city. The traffic on the other side heading
North towards the city often looks like a 3 lane car park.
Nose to tail, Springwood down to Loganholme.
When I head North at the end of the day is the same,
I cruise towards the city and its solid around the
M1 / Gateway junction heading South.

M1 / Gateway are great if your going the opposite way to the masses.
