Riding home from work today, and as i took off from the lights, i thought the clutch was slipping. I look down and see smoke pissing off the engine, so i pull over and stop. Clutch wasn't slipping, the rear tyre was covered in oil:(.

All bolts are tight, etc. Any ideas on what to start looking for?

where does the oil start from? don't bother looking anywhere above that! looks like it might be the filter....new filter?

Filters a couple months old, but that seems like the most likely suspect. Oil was forced out under pressure, there was an oil trail for about 40 metres. Bike didn't seize (luckily), hopefully it's something small.
And thanks for the offer, jim, but i'm running a 190 at the moment. A 160 would look a bit girly.

That's pretty lucky that you didn't do any major damage or throw the thing down the road mate.

Slightly off topic I know, but what's the go with oil soaked tyres like that ?
Do you just give them a good clean with degreaser and use them again or does the oil permeate the rubber?

It appears that the engine was trying to hide the rim stickers...

An apprentice from work was riding behind me... apparently the smoke from oil on the headers and the rear wheel spinning looked pretty impressive.
Rocket, i've been told the tyre is pretty much useless - except fot the previously mentioned burnout.

Let us know if you find how it happened, and I hope you sort it all out mate.

bummer, i'd clean it up and throw new oil in

be pretty obvious where its from if u are watching from the sides

as for the tyre, wipe it off and go wear a few mm off it
you KNOW that im experienced in these matters :D
