your off to a good start mate but i reckon you may need to ditch the stock clocks and get that headlight up against the forks and it will look sweet

FighterBlade
19-12-2007, 08:14 PM
yeah dude thats what im tryin to do but i just got to choose a good digital display thats small and i'll be set. i know the fairin is out way too far but its just temperory.

Nice start mate but you need to move those front indicators and get some smaller ones and maybe shorten the can
but thats only my opinion.

BANDITROD
19-12-2007, 08:19 PM
ok dude there are a few options you can get acwell dash units(same as they use on gas gas dirt bikes) from ben at extreme creations or you can go for the motodash unit from stu at ausfr both are very good units the acwell is the cheapest at about $300 and the motodash is about $900 including the idiot lights

FighterBlade
19-12-2007, 08:31 PM
yeah i think the acewell will do fine. i've brought some new indicators too but im a few states from the bike atm so i'll have to wait.

I'm guessing at 18 years old those are some big figures. If it were me I'd be undoing the clock frame from the head stock, unplugging the speedo drive and getting me a pushy speedo with magnetic pick-ups, then I'd strap that acerbis effort right up against the forks as they are intended to be on MX bikes.

As for revs, save the wires nicely for when you get some dollars and learn the note of your engine. Before you take it off see where you need to be in each gear and what speed you are doing, the speedo will lead your way.

FighterBlade

actually Gix11, im earnin a pretty good livin in the AirForce at the moment and i have alot of money i worked hard for to build this bike as its the only thing thats really important to me at the moment so im not gunna go cheap with some pushbike mock up. just cause im young, doesnt mean i cant earn as much as any of you guys.

FighterBlade
19-12-2007, 08:47 PM
soz Gix, got a bit carried away, i just got a bit annoyed thats all

Gix11
19-12-2007, 09:25 PM
Firey. I like that. No worries mate, I was just basing it on my low standards when i was your age. Times they change hey....

Good on ya mate. If you have the dollars, go larger is my thoughts.

FighterBlade

Pushie speedo's work a treat, but definetly want to keep an eye on temp with that thing. Why no try and move your stock clocks for the moment and make a new bracket for them against the forks?

FighterBlade
20-12-2007, 08:23 AM
yeah thats very tru lewis, the temperature does need to be watch on this bike, can get hot in slow movin traffic. the gauges are very beefy though lol. but i'll see what i can do i guess

BANDITROD
20-12-2007, 08:51 AM
you can get little digital temp gauges if that interests ya

FighterBlade
20-12-2007, 09:11 AM
cool

lewis
20-12-2007, 10:18 AM
saw go cart style digi units on ebay, i think they read off crankcase temp and are tiny, mate that to a good quality pushie speedo and your set

FighterBlade
20-12-2007, 10:20 AM
yeah well one of the acewell instruments has temp readout too so i got some dosh so i reakon i'll go wif that one ay

fimpBIKES
20-12-2007, 10:25 AM
yeah, the daytona digital temp gauges are the way to go

im a fan of the koso GP gauges that stu has

this place is going gauges CRAZY this week

so, you in the airforce eh?
ever think of getting an old 750 kawasaki, putting an 900 sticker kit on it and riding around in aviator sunnies racing planes taking off? :D

lewis
20-12-2007, 10:26 AM

I would chop that can down to and make it a stumpy pipe. Cut it back as far as the end of the rear brake disc. But what would I know, i still dont have my first project yet. Cools start and keep up the good work mate!

hey m8 just a suggestion ... why dont u save all ur hard earned cash and spend it on something a little more ( NOT cbr250ish ) not saying its not a good bike but why spend a shit load of cash on it when in the end ur only guna move up to a bigger bike.. i understand its ur first bike but arent first bikes meant to be given a hard time so u learn how to ride ..? only my opinion

FighterBlade
29-12-2007, 09:40 PM
yeah i understand man. im not really spendin a shit load of cash. its a budget build and at the moment i dont really mind, i figured i'll have it for another year at least and when im ready to sell, i'm gunna put the origional fairing, clock etc back on and keep all the goodies for my next build. I think that sounds pretty gud. I'd get more for a stock cbr than a fightered one

FighterBlade
29-12-2007, 09:47 PM
also, i have never seen anyone do this to a cbr250rr before. maybe they dont for this reason but the whole point is to be unique isnt it? might even inspire a few people haha

Hey Nic,

Only problem with buying parts for one bike and then planning on using it for next bike is that some may not be interchangeable. It makes it a lot harder to choose parts to be interchangeable. Id honestly stick with what Pesh said and save buying parts till your going to put it into a bigger bike project.

there was a pic of a black cbr250rr street fighter on here ages ago . looked pretty good . thats sweet if ur guna keep all the original parts cause u will definately get more back for it . if i was u id be riding the cbr as a stocker and looking for a bigger bike project to streetfighter.buy all the bits for the big bike. cause then once ur allowed to ride it , it will have all the goodies on it and will be ready to go ..

FighterBlade
30-12-2007, 10:55 AM
yeah that would cool exept there would be a few prob's with that. 1. findin a cheap bigger bike to do, 2. being able to keep it on base (im in the airforce) as you need it registered 3. wagga doesnt have many bikes for sale. Anyone suggest anything? haha

Big warning from an old mechanic person who cant spell, there is a speed sensor in your cbr250 dash if you remove the dash it will not run proply , just a word of worning. ;)

FighterBlade
30-12-2007, 11:52 AM
what do u mean by that? like if i remove the dash and replace it with a acewell one, the whole bike wont run propley or??!?!

oldskool
30-12-2007, 12:13 PM
unplug your dash and you will see what I mean. you can leave it pluged in and pull the dash apart to find the resistor / speed sensor or just remount your dash into a better position .

FighterBlade
30-12-2007, 01:38 PM
righto, i'll see how i go when i whack the new dash in and if i encounter any prob's i'll give ya a buzz Dylan and i'll probably get one of the bike places here to put it in. im sure it will work one way or another right?

FighterBlade
30-12-2007, 05:40 PM
i found a way to fix the speed restrictor problem oldskool. I just cut and link 2 wires in the CDI and that fixes the problem. Heaps of ppl do it and there is a guide on how to do it so hopefully that will be fine

How long have you got left of your course? If you explain that it is a project vehicle, then you should be fine as long as you inform the SECPOL section on base. As long as they know, they wont infringe it for being unregistered.

You are relatively close to a few places that have opportunities to pick up a good cheapy..

FighterBlade
30-12-2007, 08:10 PM
yeah? where abouts dude? i had a look at some auction sites (pickles etc) but they dont really give any prices. if i wanna do something like your suggesting, i wouldnt want it to cost me over $1000 bucks to start

m8 my first project cost me $1000 bux , i spent a fair whack of cash on it by the end , but it was relatively complete when i bought it , check out auctions , trading post and word of mouth aswell , and if u have to , get a transport company to pick it up for ya and delivr it to the base .. but definately stick with a big bike to spend ur dosh on , trust me m8 u wont regret it and u will be stoked with the end product

FighterBlade
30-12-2007, 10:39 PM
awesome. i wasnt gunna go the whole hog with the cbr anyway, im still doin it but im not gunna go custom exhaust and paintwork and all the pricy shit. i just want a cool little streetfighter to bang around while im on my restrictions. im sure u can all understand
