One for Mono, or someone who knows the law and
the way cops and insurance company's think..

Reading Scott's thead on his Sand Dragger,
how close can you get to that on the road ?

Putting stupid chunky tyres on a Bandit or GSXR
and still be within the law.

I'm guessing the big BMW's / Super Tenere's etc
Would be using something chunky, speed rated,
weight rated ?

Would you get anything similar to fit 17" streetbike
size rims and stay legal ?

Any issue's with "not designed use" or similar
cop-outs that apply to tourers using car tyres?

Basically can you go stupid chunky tyres on a
big road bike and stay with the law and insurance
rules and reg's.

Is it as simple as "my tyre my choice" or not?

I guess it comes down to what is dot approved. Just cause it is a dirt tyre I doubt fitting it to a road bike would void any insurance

Thats what I was thinking / hopeing.

Speed / weight size etc need to be suitable,
but the choice of tread pattern and style (or lack of) is mine ?

Chunky 17" front to suit a big bike might be rare ?

only drama with those kenda trackmasters is as much as there dot rated i still had to run tubes in them and i can see balancing being a issue from that , i did see mono had some tyres on his ebay shop that were a bit less agressive and they would more chance of being police man friendly , even when i road my crm250 on the road i had mx tyres on it but i never got hassled but in saying that it was a dirtbike , bandit might be a different story

Kind of like putting 35" MT's on an xf falcon. Would stand out a bit and would be an out for insurance and others if they in any way contributed to an incident. Would have thought that ADR's would come into play and only manufactures specified tyres would be the baseline and any deviation from that could be subjective.

Due to previous experience's i rather sail closer to legal than not.

Did I miss something? Why would you want to do this Tony? You planning on taking it off road? It would feel like shit on road surely and traction would be down massively. Can you fill in the gaps of what I have missed?

I'd guess that even a "legal" tyre is not going to match the manufactures
size / profile spec so isnt going to be an ADR type fitment if they get fussy ?

Then again, neither is a 190/55 rear on either a Busa or B-King.

Bandit 12 sat doing nothing.
Running 3 road bikes that suit me,
just playing with idea's to do something dumb and to f#ck about with an have a laugh.
Looked at running it at the drags but then i'd have a dragbike slower than my road bike
and that doesnt really work for me.

Mate put a 4-cylinder 1200 Triumph motor into an early 3-cylinder Triumph Tiger years a go.
Was very stupid and hard work but always "entertaining".

Just thinking out loud with dumb idea's.

After riding an xr600 with full knobbies on the street aggresivley . I'd think "Legal issues" regarding a large road bike with knobbies would be pritty minor compared to your dry cleaning bill issues, when you open the sucker up on the road and empty your lower bowel into your jocks.

I run Michellin Anakee 2's on my R1200GS and they stick like shit to a blanket on road. I've been grinding the footpegs, my boots and everything else down low. Soften the suspension and they're good on the dirt too. I dunno if they come in the size you need, but worth a look Just re-read this (sober) and realized you want chunky tread. The Anakee's probably aren't for you.
