the 2.7 hilux is thirsty bastard too , pretty bad on fuel good motors , 220 ks on the clock is getting up there , you would get more for selling you xr6 than the hilux would sell for though , sell it buy a vu vy commo ute v6 good on fuel more comfy than the lux and they have really come down on price , good motors

if your keen for a hilux ill swap ya my 97 4x4 single cab hilux diesel 165ks on the clock canopy and all , ill meet ya half way ceduna haha

the missus would love a ford , being a silly ford fan that she is , to bad i keep buying commodores for her haha

Put a LPG system on the XR6, I think you still get the govt rebate.

I can make a 70L tank last about 330km around town in my EF XR8, went from Adelaide to Dimbooooolah on 1 tank of gas at $1.20 most of the way.

The XR8 just clicked over to 490,000km.

some interesting input.....

its still a thought at this stage, i know i would be better to sell the XR first and buy a hilux with cash.

-LPG = no more boot space

-id love a v6 commy manual or a single cab luxy but coz of the little man i need back seats.
and interesting to know the 2.7 is thirsty too.

I still have heaps of boot space, have carried a Z900 motor in it, had my full size mig welder in it, can carry a full weeks worth of firewood in it, the gas tank is behind the back seat/under parcel shelf.

yeah i spose its not that bad and it would give me a good excuse to keep the coon....
its fine on the highway, it just sucks dick round town!

what system have you got? im not a fan of the ones that just get cut and put in the intake rubber.

Just shove a vapor injection unit with a donut tank in the xr6 , better fuel econ and power than "normal cheap gas unit". Space saver tyre and you keep 100% of you boot space.

Yeah a vapour injection system, it was on the car when I got it.

now I'm a BBQ gas fanatic.

no idea on price but I think it's pretty much the same at most gas shops due to the rebate.

About $3k if your dumb enough to pay at a regular gas conversion joint (then get $1500 back on rebate), If you buy a second hand "in date tank" and a unit off ebay install it yourself (easy if you know how, easy to kill yourself if you dont) and get a licenced installer to check it (ask first most dont like certing an installed backyarder), fill out the rebate form. I made money after the $1500 rebate on the last one I did, but I have a mate thats an installer and I've done several myself in the past.

If your handy with the spanners but dont want to mess with gas, talk to an installer (ask and be real nice) If you supply a second hand unit from the wreacker mounted in car , tank, unit, electrics but no gas lines run. You will prob find an installer that will finish off the tricky bits for alot less than a full install. Ask about in your home town.
