I guess I should say something here.

Here's a few key points.
From 2004 - 2008 I was living a single man's lifestyle, sharing a house, having all the spare time in the world and living and breathing Streetfighters. These will be for many, the so called "glory days". I could arrange meetings, fly out the door at the drop of a hat, it was all on.

2009 saw me adopt a family, buy a renovation house, lose $40k on an event, get told by Paypal that I could not accept donations as I wasn't a registered charity, and then get investigated by the Tax office because of it. Guess where the energy went?

Add to that, the cost of so many people using the website over the years had gone through the roof. There was no advertising because of the general content, and I was really struggling to keep this place going. As always, everyone wants something for free, so what had to give? Up until that point it was eating into my spare cash as I had fuck all else to do with it and everyone was having a great ride, but with that gone, how was it going to continue?

What you see now is the only solution we could find to the problem. I say we, but I should really thank Callan, as he set up this entire new website structure in his own time to try and help. There is still a million things I would like to try and work out in the control area, but I just don't have the time to do it what with my day job looking at screens all day. The last thing I want to do is spend all weekend and night doing the same thing!

The missing images thing is because the foilder that holds the images will not take any more, so many are missing and I have no fucking clue how to get around this. Because of that fact I lost CBRRRRT because he seemed to think I just didn't want to add the photos and sabotage his topic, which as you can see, was not the case. His topic was also a major draw card and I saw a lot of emails from people asking me for the photos to show, but what could I do?

The trading area was running so hot that I was getting emails from people being wripped off saying it was my fault, plus the traffic itself was running me into the ground as far as fees were concerned, so of course I had to try and control that somehow.

As for the images uploading, every image that was being uploaded was onto our server. This meant I had to pay for extra storage and bandwidth use each time somebody viewed a photo, so of course, that had to stop as well. The bigger the photo, the more bandwidth it used. So the solution was to make them into smaller thumbnails to avoid the big draw, and then the guys that helped to run the site could enlarge them. All the photos stored off the website didn';t cost us anything, so they all stayed at the large size as it made no difference. But can you tell that to people? They just think I'm fucking the website by not letting photos be shown at full size and want me to foot the bill as well so they can have them all large and pretty.

I have a whole load of other reasons I think the place has gone down, but I'm not going into that here.

What I can suggest is that I will speak to Callan and see if I can open the membership thing up to everybody at full everything for one month and see if it makes any difference whatsoever. If I get hit with massive bills again then I'll worry about that then.

I'll also make the chat room thing open to anybody (as I think I know how to do that), and as much as I think a few guys hate that shit, I'm sure there will be a few that will enjoy it also.

I'm open to any more suggestions and I'll give you honest opinions from the admin side of things as to how it will or won't help.

As for mods, if anybody with mod powers does not want it any more please let me know. I would also like to addd a few new mods who have shown true support of the site regardless of its state. I will contact them soon.

Ive been kicking around here a long time and I agree. Even my posting's has trailed off.

The quality on here is thinning out sure enough. I too used to be plastered to the screen because so much in depth shit was going on. Weather it be builds or discussions over riding and the riding life ect.

I pay the money gladly because Ive been to the events I've done the time and I have a loyalty to this site and the many friends i've made on it.
But things have changed.

Lets take the impending AFR for example. People talked in circles about it and when 1 member finally put his hand up and organized something he was completely shot to shit by other members who didn't like the plan.
Did they do anything off their own bat? No they fucking didn't.

If its not getting done for them it wont get done and when in the past you'd have people coming from all over to get together its become an us and them state to state affair.

We used to hang off fighters like nothing else mattered but now like it or not we are all turning into lazy keyboard heros.

The spark has gone out of ASF but we are all ourselves to blame.
But there's no way in hell I'd ever quit it.

Long time no see. Thought I would drop by to see the old site and see whats going on. A few of you probably remember me, most of you probably don't but I was the keen red headed fella who stalked the site incessantly for a few years with a custom ZX-12R. This site was the shit, a bunch of smart arses, giving each other crap, talking bikes, riding bikes and having a general good time.

Unfortunately the operative word here is "was". I mostly dropped by to see if things had changed since the last time I decided to stop coming here.

12 odd posts in the main Streetfighters Talk section this year, the rest possibly hidden behind a paywall that I have no intention of coughing up dollars for.

When I joined this site it was constantly updating, new stuff popping up all the time. Shit, I'd sit there hitting refresh just to see what was new. Times have changed, last time I was here (couple of years ago) I had posts deleted because I was trying to sell some stuff (at a loss to me) because I wasn't a full financial member. Lets forget the time spent behind stalls setting up, selling shit, promoting the website. Sour grapes from me? Maybe. I don't really give a fuck. I've moved on. It's just a bleeding shame that such a great site has become a shadow of its former self. The fact that I am still in the top 20 of posters two years since my last post is proof that this site has really wound down.

What do I reckon caused this? Segregation of the site. Having paid and unpaid sections turns newbs off faster than a fat kid on veggies. Ask yourself, why should a new guy sign up and cough up the dough to see the members section when people wont even spend 99 fucking cents on an app these days.

People advertising shit on this site to buy/sell drove traffic here, but then the "members" section was created and you had to pay to sell stuff or see the "special" sections. It used to be that new people would check the goods and maybe move on, but others would stay and contribute, adding to the forum. Now you almost have to be a financial member just to give shit away (check turbokats post).

Really do you think that shit works? I always thought the point of a Streetfighter was "I crashed my bike but I'm too hard up to put the original plastics on". Paying to get access to this site is antithesis to the core of fighting. Pay for a site? You may as well be riding a ducati.

I'm not saying I have the answers. I know Si has bills to pay to keep this site running, but I'm telling you that this site has losts its relevance to the streetfighting community.

I didn't write this post to stir shit. This is just my honest assessment of the state of play. There was a golden era for this site, and pardon me for saying, but this ain't it. How do you fix this? Remove the paywall. This site was always hard to get on board with considering the way newbs are often treated. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, it's just one of the idiosyncracies of the site but who is going to pay to be called a fuckhead no matter how nicely it is said.

How do you make this site financial? Ads. Yep its a dirty word but it works to a degree.

Add a donation button with a metric - i.e. We need x amount of dollars to maintain the site. Sure it's close to begging but its got more honor then asking people to pay for information that is free on the internet.

Sponsored rides, get a group of ASFers together for a ride, throw the hat around and there is months worth of bandwidth.

Not saying this is the be all and end all of ideas but its INCLUSIVE of new members rather than EXCLUSIVE.

The pics issue:

When we built this new version of the site, I had every intention of getting ALL the old pics working again by moving them to a new server and mapping the links so all the old embedded pics in posts automagically started working again.

I still do, but a few months ago I moved house and Telstra fucked up, and I haven't had net for months now except from phone. As soon as I get net again, i'm going to work on getting the old pic hosting running again on a much more economically-viable solution for Si, as well as building a better attachment system here on the forum so it's easier for people to attach pics to posts.

This will also save Gitzy from reuploading all his pics, and help this site become the bikeporn photofest it used to be (and which draws so many new members in).

There are plenty of ways for the above to happen, I just can't do it from my phone, so waiting for Telstra to fix the fibre connection to my new place.

Si, I'm also happy to help out any other way you need with the site. I know I haven't been in much contact lately, but as soon as i'm back online proper, i'll have plenty of time to kill and a juicy new NBN connection to utilise... so feel free to start brainstorming all the things you'd like fixed/made-better/added on the site and we'll figure out a plan of attack.

FWIW, i'm not that old around here so take my opinion with a grain of dirty salt, but I also agree that the site needs more direction to being a bike-site more than a shitfight-site. I still read the site as much as I can, but I don't feel like posting when I click on a bike thread, and it is 2-3 posts about the bike then diverts into pages and pages of personal shitfighting, arguing, and random chatter unrelated to the thread title.

When I first signed up 5 years ago (I was 19) I loved to read and see all the different ways people were going about modding their bikes so i could improve my skils(not just in bikes, but in general as i like to have ago at everything) Then the forum just seemed to slow to a dribble and i started to go elsewhere for my fix( customfighters etc) but its just not the same.

Currently in the middle of organising having my spare head chopped off to allow us to move to melb next month. hopefully catch up with some of you guys? as ill need new riding buddies. (ill upgrade to a standard member once we move.)

I got a bit bored of the site, i haven't been working on the bike and have been flat out with riding pushies and life shit that's been getting me down.

I'm glad that issue has been mentioned and something done about it.

I'm not on faceface so don't look at that stuff, it is the way the world is changing tho and you need to keep with the times I guess.

The reboot seems to be working well so far, more posts and more input from members.

I'm been stuck up here in the NT in Katherine where I probably could count the amount of road bikes on both hands... I've been bike less for a while but recently bought a bike which didn't kinda fit into the mould of ASF.

I'm looking at being relocated back down south somewhere soon (can't fuckin wait) but that's after 2 months in Wagga (may/June 13). I'll be bringing the bike down so if there are rides in Vic, I might pop down to catch up.

Although I haven't been on the site, I've still had my membership coming out of my account and still happy to donate towards a place that gave me so much, in the way of mateship, so much knowledge and a shit load of fun at the multiple AFR events I've been to. Might as well chuck in some 2 cents. I had a big hiatus away from bikes, and consequently this place too. Finally got around to getting another bike (not a fighter but a tard so it kinda counts), came back on here for a look around, even posted some pics of my new tard wheels but was instantly turned off by the racist and homophobic shit that was being said. It wasn't in The Terrorist Free zone or whatever the fuck that place is, just in general topics.

I can put up with a lot of crap, but any form of racism or sexism is just offensive to me. I'm Aussie born, half Chinese, my great grandfather served in WW1, my granddad in WW2, my dad in Vietnam and myself in the Iraq War, as well as a shit load of border patrol operations. Do I harbour any hate towards people of another race? Not one bit. I've been on the receiving end as a kid, and I'll tell you what, if you racist pricks went through the same thing you'd think differently today. How the fuck you can think poorly of someone because of something that is not their choice is beyond me. That goes for the homophobia too, I'm all for having a laugh but saying that shit and meaning it is wrong on so many levels.

What's my point? I used to love this place, it used to be about fighters, from rattle can rat bikes to full pimped out mega buck monsters, it didn't matter, the passion was still there. Somewhere along the line, it got out of control, it takes a certain kind of person to want to build a fighter but now we've got caricatures of those people. Give a fuck to the point of racism, sexism and general redneckery. It's like using riding a fighter an excuse to be a wanker. As it's been said before, there's plenty of other places to rant racist BS, make this place about bikes again and you'll see it come back to it's former glory. I for one don't want to be a part of an organisation that condones racism or sexism or fuckheadism.

In my books, someone that sits by and lets something happen, is also at least partially accountable for those actions. An extreme example, you see a mate get pissed and slap his missus around, there's 3 options:

1. Enjoy what you see - you're a weak prick, just like him
2. Don't like what you see, do nothing - you're still a weak prick
3. Don't like what you see, do something about it - hooray, you're not a prick

Like I said, an extreme example. My point is if there's racist, derogatory or other BS that goes on here, people should pull people up on it, and mods should ban them (at least temporarily until they pull their head in). Like it or not, we are a multi-cultural society, and you're going to get people of all shapes, sizes, colours, ethnicity and sexual persuasion on here. If they come on here and see what I saw, they're going to leave, it's not worth their hassle to get caught up in the shit, especially as a newb. I know of 2 other mates, both into building bikes, that don't come on here anymore because of the shit. People might like to think of Streetfighters as a kind of "outlaw group" where the usual rules of society don't apply. Fair enough some of us "flirt with the law" (everytime we jump on a bike for example), but that's no excuse to act like a tool. Anyone is entitled to their own opinion, morals and ethics, however there are some basic rules apply to society, and which should apply here.

K6 - It's shit that you've been on the receiving end, unfortunately it's usually the small group of small minded dickheads that ruin it for everyone else. Hate breeds hate, war and terrorism are testament to that.

Look, maybe I caught this place on a bad day, maybe it's a storm in a tea cup and this place going downhill is just a reflection of everyone doing it tough and there's simply not enough cash going around for fun shiny toys. I'm going to stick around a bit and give it another go, my motorbiking direction might be a little different these days (tard now, and I've got a SV650 with GSXR bits I'm going to convert to electric when I have the coin), but there's no where else I'd go to share my love for bikes and riding. If I see some racist BS like "illegal immigrants steal all our money/jobs/wives" then I'll call someone on it.

By the way, whatever happened to ozkat and Mad Mundy? I saw some crap that went on with Shayne but what about Mundy?

I too miss what this site used to be... There definately was a "golden era" and i remember helpin set up the ASF stand and flog merch to unsuspecting members of the public at AFR with Pete too!
Funny how a topic about the way things used to be brought things back to how they used to be a little! The middle of this topic was full of good banter and the laughs we all miss!
I guess with the amount of new members things would never be as tight knit as they used to be. And everyone is busy as fuck dealing with lifes shit too.
Hopefully things perk up bit... time will tell!

I think that things have already improved slightly and under it all there are still some awesome people in here. Racism comments have calmed down at last and I have seen a few more build threads pop up.

haha. Just finally got the boss and told hime I need a fixed date so that I can actually plan my life (bloody acquisition of the company has got things a bit confusing). it seems that I'll head up the begining of April, however I will make start off with a 2 weeks in Qld and 2 weeks in Vic till June / july and then we'll revisit it from there to see what's happening. That means that the bike might stay here after all......

I'll be living in between 2 apartments and having my car and bike here and a leased car in Qld. Not gonna get bored at least :D
