Helmet "safety standards sticker"

I know a lot of guys around here dont give a fuck about this because of a previous post on simpson helmets but heres some info you may want to know.

If you are involved in an accident and you are found to be wearing a helmet that is not standards approved the insurance company has the right to waver your claim.

If you are wearing a helmet that is not standards approved and you have an accident and you have injured yourself/or your passenger is injured and found to be wearing one your green slip will not cover them.

Dont ask me how they can get away with this but i suppose that its just another way of getting out of paying out for a claim.

Duty of care regs are fucked up, you have a "duty of care" to yourself to wear an approved helmet... But they don't know back claims from idiots that crash on tyres with the belts coming though...

this also applies to if you have removed the stafety reg sticker, ie. custom paint, it is then deemed to be an illegal helmet. i have heard of ppl being fined for riding without a helmet because the sticker had come of and just the tacky void residue was on the lid!!!

insurance companies love finding ways not to pay up!!
I know of one case here in darwin where a guy was riding a brand new
aprilia futura, had the bike for about one week and had a taxi pull out in front
of him and he T-boned it... completey the taxi's fault!!
he was wearing a helmet that he bought in malayasia and had had it
for about three years while living over there, road in it every day.
problem was its not aust approved, insurance didnt pay, he lost
over $20,000.
why risk it for a $500-$600 helmet??
another case, was a friend of mine who crashed his new KTM 900
he stacked it trying avoid a car that pull into his lane, the car
driver took full blame, but he had a non-approved rear nobby tyre on the back...
cost him i think about $9000 to fix it, no insurance payed.

Which sort of means 90% of the guys (including me) on this site wouldn't be covered in a crash by insurance because most of the mods we do aren't certified by an engineer...

im in the same boat... i ride my bike around with mods that
arent legal, its just the risk i take! however when it comes to my helmet
I have an approved one, always will!!

how do they know which helmet is fucked if you get up and are ok?? as for a diver fault crash.. its pritty shit how companies dont pay up if their customer is at fault.. either way AS approved or not anyone could get hurt due to their irresponsible driving

So I suppose next they are going to look at the date of maufacture and say that the shelf life of the helmet is to old , as most are aware your helmet should be relaced if it sustains an impact even if you just drop it on the floor bcause you wern't holding it properly or if the helmet is around 5 years old you should replace it.:(

they dont there's no way of telling even if it's srcatched and grazed up on the outside.

But they are only designed for one impact only on to a hard surface from about waist hieght.

how long do you guys keep your helmets for thou????
i replace mine almost annually....
but then again I do sweat alot more in mine up here!!!
they get quite crusty after a while!!!

You should change it over 2-3 years depending upon exposure to UV - it degrades the outer shell. The new Standard stickers actually are designed to fade in the sunlight and when they completely fade your help is no longer acceptable... problem is if you leave your helmet in a hot car it can speed this process up a shit load...

I replace my helmet every year but thats mainly cause I keep crashing and fucking the old one up... I think I've spent more then 2k on helmets in the last 3 years...

my helmets fine ..had a bit of the old cottage cheese on it a few years ago but that cleared up ...kin hell didnt know it had to have an as sticker onit tho .........snigger

About every 3yrs 4 me ,you are supposed to replace every 5yrs there about anyway but im wear mine daily.
