so i got the gsx1100g as a swap for a bunky ute i had plans were to get it on the road and ride it or flog it off but i have changed my mind i dont really want any more regos , so the plans for it are to go dirt drag racing , there is a track not far from mine and there a few more not far away plus the fact i have bulk flat paddocks to practice in it should be fun , so the bike is a less than desireable starting point dirt dosent descriminate against ugly , but the wheelbase is long , weight is fat , but the 1100 oily should pull like a train in the dirt , down sides are its a shaft drive so i cant really play with gearing so ill just have to deal with that

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKn_-HfiSrE

the bike , will get a full strip lights, controls, wiring , parts ill flog to the wreckers and such

http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1019.jpg
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1325.jpg

plenty of room in the width of the swingarm being shafty so ill get a good sized mx tyre in there , i was thinking a paddle tyre but not being able to change the gearing i reckon it will bog on the line but this is something ill ask a few guys doing it what there experience has been , only drama might be is the cross brace but a bit of cut and shutting it shouldnt be a problem

http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1331.jpg
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1330.jpg

lucky for me our apprentice at work bought in a couple of tail plastics for me his step dad left in the shed when he took off im not sure exactly what there off the green one looks to be kz z gpz ish the other im not sure but it reminds me of a xr flattracker style but ill use the green one , chop the subframe off make a new one that will save me a heap of weight the tail is huuuge

http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1326.jpg

a few other bit ive got , drag bars , the old headlight of the vfr though the light wont work and indicators gone

http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1327.jpg
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1328.jpg

now question for the suzi fans out there , these carbs i want to bin the airbox so what do i need to do to these carbs to make it run right , jet the shite out of it ??

Just convert it to chain. Base motor is the same as Gsxr and it as chain drive can't be to hard.

Just get a factory pro stage 3 jet kit and jet to there recommendation. Will get you in the ball park

Looks like a good option , a tyre groover ot air saw to take out every second row of knobbies would make it Nice and agressive for the drags, without quite the traction of a paddle tyre to.

RevHead
31-12-2012, 03:46 PM
you might want to not shorten the tail to much ,as you will end up with mud all under your helmet ,and up your back!

hyofighter
04-01-2013, 11:49 PM
looked at those conti tyres as there is f$ck all out there for a 17 inch rim but i have found some aggressive ones and are avalible from a wholesaler here in perth but they wont sell to the public but after some asking around i found a agent in northam so he is going to look into it for me

http://www.partsforatvs.com/data/shopcart7/image_db/trackmaster2.jpg

so i took it to work to cut it up and change out the rear shock that pretty much just was a spring it was rooted , slipped it out took it and all the old body panels dash and seat down to motorcycle masters and swaped it all for a 88 gsxr750 rear shock and some new grips so no dollars spent
next was chop off the sub was kinda rusty in there and suprisingly thin walled , so in the theme of no dollars spent i found some box tube (rough i know) at work but round tube to box tube ya cant even tell LOL them on goes the seat , so to make a seat pad now fill in the bottom of the ducktail and pete dirt up me back is going to the least of my concerns

Don't think of it as pink, if anyone asks you call the colour 'labia' lol

hyofighter
11-01-2013, 01:29 PM
to help people with the "labia" colour maning i could rub fish all over it before the meeting , charge people money to lick the tank

hyofighter
13-01-2013, 09:39 PM
rigthio update , so some of you seen the pic on faceplant and she has turned out pretty angry looking

so seat base made of ex streetsign ali , and held down buy the finest of quality teks then foamed up by a ex-kneel pad , then muffler mounted up and linkpipe made up for 20 bucks
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1390.jpg
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1408.jpg
then i made up some spacers to lift the bars so controls can clear the tank a bit better on full lock and also to drop the tripples down the forks abit as after putting the rear shock with a bit more length the side stand is way to short by lots and even after this it was sketchy putting it on it , the forks on this have a plenty of angle to them and length
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1410.jpg
next tyres , 110/100/18 for the front and its massive so much so it lifted the bike even more making the side stand useless so ill have to make one even longer , front gaurd got a massive internal chop and was lifted 30mm
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1423.jpg
rear was 130/90/17 and was a stretch for the 4.5 inch rim and doesnt leave alot of room at the front at the brace
but it was the biggest i could get , put heavy duty tubes in but no tube locks this ment drilling holes in the rim , but i think if i run higher tyre pressures it shouldnt spin the tyre on the rim
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1434.jpg
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1431.jpg
and these tyres are dot rated for the road at $115 a piece cheap !!!
all that was left in the looks department was the ugly area under the seat where the coil is so i scored some cx500 side covers whilst i was at motor cycles plus getting the tyres a bit bulky at first so i cut em up now i reckon they look mint
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1412.jpg
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1416.jpg
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1422.jpg
all up im happy how she looks , prob wouldnt have made a bad road fight project really , now to paint the panels and get those carbys out to give em a clean out

cheers fellas shes coming along well , update

shes at home now coz the boss was cracking the shits about it being at work , so i started the paint work , traditional flat black , painted up the rad sheild , top clamp and such
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1440.jpg
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1453.jpg
next take the carbs off for strip down , stunk of old fuel i wasnt looking forward to what was inside but it actually wasnt bad only drama being the fuel bowl breather link pipe but was able to get one from suzuki was a in stock part 20 bucks , put the carbs back on today plumbed up some fuel no leaks lucky me , got it running not fantastic at first bit of popping and such , standard setup has 120 mains , but the mixture screw any ideas where to start im at 1 and a half out runs okay and idles now

polished up the old formula muffler came up pretty good considering how bad it was
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1448.jpg
lastly the fuel tank , filled with rust and unable to get another for love nor reasonable money , had thought to gut it and put a fuel cell under it but i thought ill try a tank sealer kit , kbs make one 3 part thing , tank cleaner , etching compound and the paint/sealer , the tank was rusty as f$ck and had a couple of holes , cleaner got rid of the old fuel varnish and the etcher fark me the rust disappeared but bought out more holes , could have drained spagetti in it , then in went the sealer poured out the holes so i taped over them so hopefully it seals her up 4 days to dry and it said no solvent will clean it up after it dries , is true i cant get it off my hands , should have used the gloves supplied haha
after etch

so more dicking around with it , off to work again to bleed the brakes on sunday , both masters full of water rusty watery brake fluid mess , pulled off cleaned out then the lines were blocked so flushed out , then flushed the system and its like brand new clutch is good brakes , mint , just a fuel tap , fuel lines , and check the tank doesnt leak
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1493.jpg
here for the suzi gurus does this look like a chain conversion is acheiveable this is a ugly set up , but just was thinking the future maybe
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1492.jpg
so today i did the last things , mod the battery box to fit a bigger battery i had at home , mount a few of the last things , plumb the lines and fire her in the guts , took it for a burn in the yard at work , at first a little throttle it felt like the clutch was slipping but it was the tyre , the knobby is useless on the tarmac once i knew it was the tyre F#$K IT to the limiter it was in first and second up the yard , nice line for the boss to winge about tomorrow
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/parts/IMAG1503.jpg
so to work tomorrow goes the skid lid and the action camera vid for sure as i test it in the pole dump down the back

so again last weekend it was race day on sat so in the tradition of "last minute racing" i put the clutch in on the friday night finishing just after midnight , stupid i know , http://ballisticdragracing.com/ fibres fitted , steels wet and dried to deglaze and another OME diaphragm fitted , lever is a little heavier but is still fine to handle and it feels good

http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j477/hyofighter/drags/20130315_211355_zps258940bb.jpg

dramas on the day though with fueling issues with one carb having some shit stuck in the needle and seat not allowing enough fuel in but once it was sorted it was finals and i was knocked out first round against the fastest bike there that won the day a k8 1000 gixxer , the bloke had a full bolt in trike set up and was fast and having more tyre certainly helped him out plus me missing a gear didnt help

to be honest its the best fun ive had on two wheels to date , sure the vfr is fun and a awesome bike but there is something about being able to have zero mechanical sympathy and belt the living shit out of a bike with out fear of being caught of punnished for your behaviour and especially to a bike that keeps coming back for more ,i pretty much leave it untouched except for a clean after each meeting and start it up to make sure it goes the night before the next meet and it just goes (almost honda reliability) was never a real suzi fan and dont and still dont know much about the oily motors but those things are strong , and to all the haters of shaft drive (me included) for the dirt it works as it just drives that back wheel straight into the ground only down side is no ratio swaps but more hp will compensate for that , so thats what im on the hunt for now , jets , filters , ignition , 2 stage , sidewinder exhaust and after much research and talking to people that know some people that now other people i found a bloke in SA who is going to make me one of these tyres

HHHMMM if you haven't changed clutch plates by now you will be, thats fucken nuts!

I know absolutely fuck all about this kinda sport but looking at the other competitors do you reckon you should try and lower it and get it closer to the deck?

I also heard when these (tyres) first started being used people were frying engines.

Admittedly most were two strokes but you have to richen up heaps or risk scorching an engine!

Can't remember the reason why & how it was doing this (its 4 am) but just remember it happening.

Looks great and to think this tyre started out as a slick lol.

lowering is a problem , firstly because of the ruts in the track at the start that tend to get quite deep secondly the top end of the track and the return road are usually real rough and get worse as the day goes on , but having said that with the shaft drive it stands the back end up not really lifting the bike but more shoving the tyre into the dirt , the front end i have pulled the forks throught the clamps a inch or so but with the hieght of the mx tyre on the front its back to the same height , now a lower profile tyre for the front in a mx tread i could find or maybe change it for something else like a adventure bike tyre of a lower profile , a sidewinder exhaust is on the cards this will clear some space under the engine to maybe allow me to drop it a bit more

but i know what ya mean and id like it lower too and a few have said about lengthening it too but i like the fact it still looks bike like not drag bike like , and yes clutch is done with a extra diaphram spring too but its the shaft drive im worrying about

well the tyre took its time getting here on the snail mail aust post andi has eager to fit to see how she looked and fitted some i went and bought some tyre levers and changed her over and bugger it i hits the front of the swinger not by much but enough that it lock the wheel in place between 2 paddles and the swinger , not liking the idea of having to change tyres on rims for different race meets i found another rim but it had no drive gear so swaping them is no biggy but is easier than levers and tyres
