Yo hippies,

Does anyone know what the standard thickness of a GSXR1100 clutch fibre is?
And/or what the thickness is for them being too thin?

I couldn't get on OSS from work but can at home...

OSS says
Normal thickness 2.54mm - 2.66mm
Min tol thickness 2.22mm

Thanks Red

Who can tell me about these clutch steels?

On the left is a steel that was in my bike and on the right is one from Deano.

Why for they different fuckun....

I think my coil springs might have let go so i need to measure them, but my steel is different to any that Dean has seen.
Is it some after market jobbie?

Yea, yours are weird mate, never seen them. Mine are like Deano's as well. So they have little pitted holes to make them slip better yea?

No idea .... I got this clutch off Doctor and he didn't know the history of the engine.

Yes it does slip good:mad:

Spring pressure should be about 40 pounds at 23.62 mm , I only have some HD units they measure at 37mm uncompressed.

As for pitted plate , I've seen a few some early stock suzuki 2 stroke (T500) stuff had pits. Kwaka 600 (betty) I pulled down a few weeks back had pits, 550 kawaka had pits. All on first plate only. Honda xl 250 had pitted plate also.

No idea if they were stock (would bet t500 was prob xl250 to) I'd bet pits are to allow oil to wash away deposits/maintain a film on plate better.

I believe the pitted plates are OEM parts. I run a mixture in my motors and never been a problem. Provided they are not warped they should be fine.
Your fibre plates are the ones that wear out. If you still have plenty of friction material on the backing plate you should be ok.
They are never very thick to start with though.
You just might need to clean up the grooves in the basket and on the centre hub. These get little divits where the clutch plates dig into them. This causes the plates to hang up and not close up properly.
The result is clutch slip.
Also make sure when you put the thing back together that the plates are put in the correct way.
They are a stamped metal part and have a one side with a sligh radius to the edges and the other side has sharp edges and the occassional burr. Put the radiused side towards the inner part of the clutch.
Also check your springs.
You can change the spacers underneath the spring bolts/washers to get a little more preload. Just don't go too far otherwise you will not be able to get the clutch to release.
