Since the NFR I have had some issues with the bike. The bike started stalling when we were up in the mountains and I assumed the issue was due to the altitude, so i just raised the idling speed. It has since got worse and I have noticed that the issue only occurs when I am under 4000rpm, it sounds like it's working on 2 or 3 cylinders. Since I've raised the idling I notice that when the bike is stationary and you blip the throttle it takes a while for the revs to come back down to 1000rpm. To me it sounds like bad fuel which seems to have blocked one of the slow running jets - causing the idling issue.

Any other ideas what it could be? How easy is it to clean out the jets? Never really worked on a set of carbs before

I've actually just replaced the plugs as soon as I got back from NFR. I noticed that the lead on clylinder 2 isn't too flash and might be causing some issue. But since the trouble is only under 4000rpm, that doesn't make sense. Sounds more like a fuelling issue to me

Sounds very much like the same symptoms that blocked pilot jets cause, Basically running on air in the lower rev range, Ever noticed what an engine does when it runs out of fuel? it revs up a bit when it leans off but runs like crap & is not very good for the motor running on air

What bike is it?

From a cold bike , start (leave to idle and run your hand over headers (or use a infared temprature gun) look for a cooler header. Gives you a good indication of what cyl is playing up for when you strip ALL your carbs to clean.

Pull your carbs set them out on a large sheet of rag on a table, you'll work it out as you go alone jules. Not real hard just go slow and enjoy smelling of petrol. Buy a can of carby cleaner before you start , get one with a hose on the can. Strip all jets blow out passages with carby cleaner/compressed air check jets re-assembal.

Sometimes you might need to get some fine wire and clean the jets out if they have some build up in them, Compressed air or carb cleaner sometimes wont remove it
If you can find out what jets are in the bike & what jets would be recommended to jet it up you could just fit some new jets?

Gave one of the ones I got from aldi a go the other day just on some fastners, came up beatiful, I just used a splash of degreaser cos I was in a hurry n didn't have anything else.

well we happened to be on the same ride when both our bikes started playing up ,thats what!
fuel issues !
