OK I'm considering installing a keyless ignition and security system on my bike and possibly a remote ignition facility. Having looked around 'tinternet I think I've narrowed my choice down to one of the following three systems

What I'm wondering is has anybody had any experience of either of these systems and their observations about them both good and bad or are there any other similar systems on the market that people have tried.

I'm also wondering if anybody has used these batteries

They seem to best Shorai batteries which were my first choice of battery. Anybody got any comments? Cheers.

G'day mate. Spoke to Ben a few months ago and he stopped supplying them due to problems with the distributor or some such thing.

Supercharger just fitted anew one to my bike last weekend. I had the unit Ben sold previously and I managed to rattle it to death by not giving it enough cushioning when it was mounted. Let's face it, it was designed to trigger a garage door or something similar.

Anyway, I searched for the unit Ben had as well and they discontinued it from Jaycar and replaced it with a wizz bang 84 button homo device. Luckily, Supercharger discovered a unit on Ebay for fuck all from the States and we fitted it up last weekend - with cushioning this time! A Dam sight cheaper than those units you listed above mate. Depending on how you wire it in you can either have it to arm the ignition, or actually start the bike. I'd recommend the former and have it switch the ignition on only, just in case you forgot about it being in first gear.

If supercharger reads this he'll fill you in on the unit we both got.

Cheers Si I'll keep an eye open. Whatever system I opt for it'll be wired into a side stand cut out switch. As well as a remote ignition I want a security system/alarm as well and hopefully be able to fit it all in to one "package".Ideally I'd like a voice alarm that I can download something like Mr. T saying "GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY BIKE BOGAN" ;)

Or you could try one of these.

There is no alarm but you can use it to turn your bike on and off and remove the key ignition all together. I have wired mine so you have to press a "secret" combination of buttons to turn the ignition on and off. I was worried about not having a steering lock, but they are easy to break with a screwdriver and hammer and now they would never know how to start it.

Hi Simon, this is the link to the one Si was talking about, its very basic and simple to wire in, good luck.

Thanks for the replies people but has anybody used any of the above products though or have you just built your own immobiliser?
As has been pointed out some of the Ebay components can be made to effectively disable the ignition system but I'm looking for something a little more sophisticated than just an ignition "lockout".
The Hawk systems have proximity sensor, tilt sensor, remote ignition start and remote ignition disable, talking alarms, battery back up siren and so on but, as far as I can make out not all features exist in one system. I've emailed the manufacturer to see if they can make a package with all these components in one unit but haven't heard back from them yet
Just curious.

In years gone past I've installed multipul alarms on bikes , personally I think there mostly a waste of time. A good hidden remote start will give you as much security as anything else. If they want to steal your bike there not going to give to fucks about an alarm, a hammer n screwdriver will kill all but the most skillfully mounted units and then they just throw it on a ute/truck/push it away.

Alarms only keep honast people away . Insurance agreed value is your best protection, though it wont cover it all especally the time n effort you put in. Mostly the alarm will just shit you to tears when it false triggers etc even flash units end up being turned off due to owner irrataion before they stop a would be thief.

What brand is it and what is your intention for it? I tend to agree with Adam but having said that I've had a Dataool evo 2 system fitted to my Speed Triple with no problems whatsoever for ten years. Also my preferred security is chaining my bike to an immovable object. Comes from riding bikes in Glasgow and Manchester I suppose. Can't have too much security I reckon.

Had bikes with aftermarket alarms / imobilisers. Had drama's. Dont want anymore.

New Busa's and Kings get decent factory smart keys though which I like.

One thing I know a few folk have done is wire the starter button through a relay
and trigger the relay with a brake light or main beam / pass button or a combination
of more than one thing.

Seen car starters that needed interior light / radio / ciggie lighter or air-con
turned on before they would spin over.

No probs mate. The general consensus seems to be that immobilisers/security systems aren't really worth the hassle. Will have a look at your pics and have a ponder.

I've got a $99 alarm on the zx, it's just got shock and tilt, doesn't go off on it's own but if I slap the bike it goes off or sit on it or try and straighten it up, between that and the chipped key andhttps://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/423937_10152081981460615_528966508_n.jpgit's about as safe as it's going to get.
