G'day all
I'm looking at lowering my 98 Zx6R and need some wisdom please. I've purchased lowering link which will take care of the back but how do i lower the front??? I can't bring the forks up any further through the yokes as they already almost hit the bars. Are there places that can shorten the forks???? what are my options please

Hi and welcome James,

Looks like you've already dropped a coupla inches. How low do you want to go?

agree with large you're already a fair way thru the triples but you can get angled risers that will bring the bars back a bit more so should clear the fork tops but I don;t know where from

Maybe try Stu

Hi james and welcome .. you just notch the bars where the forks would hit then you'd be able to go lower or these are a good option http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=11

It's only been dropped about 7mm. The bike originally had clip-ons that sat above the standard top yoke.
It's like to drop it about 2 inches from it's current height if possible.

Here's another option for you.
These bars risers are made to lift the height of motocross MX bars, but will do the same job you are looking for, while repositioning your 'bars higher, and further back.
I bought them with a view to modifying them to make a gixxer front end suit a GPZ, but ended up using Ducati bar risers instead.
You will have no trouble dropping the legs through with these babies, and you can stay close to the original 'bar height,

I bought them on Yanky Ebay, but couldn't tell you who from anymore, as a hard drive crash took out my email inbox, along with everything else.
This set is for sale, 100 ozzies plus post, which is less than I paid for them, first come first served. PM me if you're interested

Fuck me, you guys are supposed to be "experienced motorcycle modifiers" and you have all overlooked the easiest and cheapest option.
James, ignore these guys and just let your tyres down...job done.

Hey James - keep in mind the steering geometry. Lowering the front is going to increase the rake angle and make the bike a lot more twitchy.... 5mm makes a difference so make sure you balance it front and rear.

If you were keen you could always cut the tubes and springs of the front forks shorter. Bit of machining but I've seen it done... on biker build off ;)

I have lowering links for the back end. This should allow me to keep the geometry the same as long as i can lower both the same. The links allow for 1,2 or 3 inch drop at the back hence the need to sort the front out......(-:

If you're confident enough to disassemble your forks, you can shorten them fairly easily.
