Dogbones, what metal to use?

I am making some dogbones for my mates SV1000S dragbike. Only have stainless at the moment, so am going to use 316 , 30mm x 3mm flat bar. What grade ally should I use and what thickness???

only using 3mm flat bar? i would think that would be too thin. i would go with like 6mm in SS or about 10mm in 6061 T6 ally
