1993, watercooled ..........less than perfect, but that hasn't stopped heaps of guys using that model,[ Deano loves them... ], If you don't mind finding a way to find places for waterpipes, a thermostat housing, waterbottle etc, they are as good a place to start as any
A year earlier has the oil-cooled motor, the most popular 'fighter base, only because of easier conversion.
It can be done, break out the axe.....

This comes up all the time. I think it's time we dedicated a topic and maybe even a site page to this.

As far as I'm concerned, the most commonly done streetfighters are Oil cooled motors for the obvious reasons they are clean of all watercooled components such as radiator and coolant reservoir bottle.

Then you need to choose a proven oil cooled motor that has good power and also can handle being big bored or pushed to it's limits, so look to what drag racers have opted for over the years.

With these two points in hand you will see a resounding trend to head towards Suzuki's 1100 based power plants.

Now you have to decide on whether you want a solid box section alloy perimetre frame or a tube section steel frame bceuase that's what will house this motor in the form of the GSX range / GSXR range / Bandit range (until last year when they introduced the water cooled motor).

So to sum it up, the easiest and most commonly done bikes are the GSXR 1985 (750) / 1986 (1100) >> 1995 or the Suzuki Bandit 1996 (1100) 1995 (600) >> 2006

If you can handle tidying up the water cooled aspects of a bike then the list is endless although one of the best looking frames naked is the CBR900RR and also resonably priced these days if you can find a good one.
