Hi all finnally registered on the best bike forum site around have been a guest on this site many time for many years but finally took the plunge and signed up, not sure why it took me so long, but anyway I'm on here now, all I have left to do now is to become FULL MEMBER that will happen in the next week or so.

Abit about me, usual story, have riden all my life, have rerstored a couple of Katanas one 1981 750 and one 1981 1100, so yes a massive suzuki freak especially the early 80s ones.

Went abit mad awhile back and bought a Harley (then saw the light and sold it) but I always wanted one and now I have had one, so nopw its out of my system, good bike, nice to ride but not really for me. have also had a few big bore dirt bikes, always had some sort of bike in my life and love playing with/restoring and just riding them.

Anyway thats 2mins with Bigjase hope to meet a few of you guys both on the forum and out on the road sometime soon.

Thanks El_Hefty happy to join the maddness

I should have said before I'm bikeless at the moment but am on the prowl for one right now I think I want to turn a GSX1400 into a Katana I know the puriests will hate me, and I do love original Katanas but I would like to do something that is both everyday ridable, quick and reliable. Just somthing thats been floating in my head for awhile now, and now is the time to do something about it. I know its been done before I just think I need to build one for myself...

Hi Bigjase.

Familiar story !

Im in Brisbane too, got a few Suzuki's old and new,
and recently bought a 1400 project off an ASF member.

Did the Harley thing, not real impressed but at least
now we can back up our opinions ?

Sold my Kat when I left the UK, big mistake.

There were places in Nipland doing 14/Kat conversions
but there have been a couple of nice ones in mags and
on the 14 forum that were DIY jobs.

Love my Suzuki's, got 5 runners and 2 projects.
Be good to catch up sometime.

Tony.

Thanks Tony I will be in touch forsure, You guys don't happen to remember the place in japan that does the 14/kat kit it would be easier to build one from a kit than to jump in on your own and stuff it.

El_Hefty
15-08-2012, 04:14 PM
no kit was available just a company doing them for 20-30 thousand by memory but the didnt sell panel work they have ceased production of them

this is the pommy guys home made jobbie

Sorry Mate, only what i've seen on google seaches
and other folks posts and on Old Skool Suzuki.

I know the company was Kobe Unicorn so that might
help with a seach.

G'day mate and welcome. aaah another old aircooled Suzook lover. There's a few of us on here that like the old Suzook musclebikes. I'm sure you could source an old aircooled beast to modify, there's still some around and a lot of people with mucho knowledge and contacts floating about.

I've always thought a GSX1100ESD wouldnt be THAT hard to
turn into a Kat, lots of parts cross over.

Maybe a Jap import 750 Kat, seen several turned into nice 1100's.

Old stuff can go for silly money though.
I paid more for a 1980 1100ET than I did for a 2008 GSX1400 !

Look-a-like Kat built onto a GS1200SS Jap home market bike....
(based around a Bandit but looked like a Slabbie)

Welcome to the psycho ward Bigjase. Another Qlder and self confessed Suzuki nut. I had a Katana 1100 for a couple of years in the 1980s and a great bike. Had a full fairing and Honda CB1100RD seat. All the fibreglass was made by a company in Brisbane called Universal Motorcycle Services at Wooloongabba. Will try and find some photos.
Been thinking of turning a GSX 1400 or late Bandit into a Katana next year. Getting hold of the parts looks almost impossible without butchering an existing bike. I did manage to find some fairings and bits from Japan and the UK. Just have to keep searching the web.
Can anyone photoshop just a Katana fairing onto a late model Bandit or GSX1400?

Thanks to all of u for the welcomes I look forward to meeting a few of u out + about. Now I just have 2 get my arse back on a bike its been a full 7 days since I sold my last bike + I'm starting 2 get shitty because I haven't ridden in a week, does anyone have a shitter that's taking up to much room in their shed. I'm happy to do some work on it but it has to b close to rego and has to be 1000cc+. I would also look at a gsxr750. Obviously the cheaper the better but would look at anything interesting.

Well just bought a 2003 1200 bandit, 100% stock (not for long) 40000km $4k which I thought was ok, it pulls harder than a 14yr old school boy. So it is now time to start modding it, nothing to serious at this stage, just want new bars grips and mirrors and get rid of that faring! And bolt on a new headlight, single or dual not sure maybe dual, well have to see what happens, let the build begin!!

Don't forget your fluro rim tape and carbon hugger, should look killer mate

Bigjase
13-01-2013, 06:33 PM
Hugger for sure but was thinking maybe polishing the rime does anyone know what its worth to do?

Cruisecontrol
13-01-2013, 07:01 PM
It will take a roll of masking tape, some paint stripper and about an hr of your day.
With the centre stand and a couple of blocks of wood you can take the front and rear wheels off and make the job a whole lot easier.

Bigjase
13-01-2013, 07:24 PM
Ok cool thanks not sure if I have the balls to try that I think I'd rather pay someone to do it right the first time for me ...

wackyrider
14-01-2013, 07:26 AM
Not really worth paying someone to polish the wheel outers. As Cruise said, just mask up the centres, then apply some paint remover carefully and let it stay for a min or 2. Then wipe off the bubbled off paint and start rubbing the wheels back with wet & dry, starting from 600 grit up to 2000 grit. Then get some polishing compond (Autosol or the like) and polish till you're happy

Had my last pair done by Springwood Suzuki,
Pretty sure they only sent them somewhere else though.

Done my own before but wasnt happy with getting a sharp
straight edge between polish and paint when I did them,
using factory finish, not reprinting centres.
Whoever did mine made a nice job, great finish too.

BANDITROD
14-01-2013, 06:21 PM
the outer rim on a bandit is allready polished under the paint so once you have stripped the paint it really only needs polish no need for sandpaper

FFS don't forget to use Avon handcream after using Autosol. "Now hands that do dishes can feel soft as your face, with miid green Fairy Liquid". Sorry, lost my thread there.

And after you've done that you can sit down and have a nice cup of tea and a Rich Tea biscuit because remember " a drink's too wet without one".

Wow, someone's obviously never had a hob nob. Tea? What with like a slice of lemon and shit? Anywho, didn't mean to hijack your thread Bigjase and turn it into a biscuit debate. Isn't there a game called freckles involving biscuits? Losing it. Enough talk of snacks.
