Hi Guys,

I ran into a bit of a problem with my GSXR1100 engine at Phillip Island last weekend.
Broke a con rod at full noise on the back straight (broke at the little end).
The engine was running beautifully just prior, then bang.

Has anyone else had this experience before?
I am currently putting it down to fatigue in the standard rods.
There are no obvious signs of seizure/over heating/oil starvation.
I guess thay are just not built for large bores, high compression, continual high revs and 170+ bhp.

If I was to rebuild, I would need to find some crank case halves, a new block (bandit) at least 1 new piston (Wiseco 11:1 CR style) and various other odds and sods. Anyone got any of this stuff kicking about?

The alternative is to re-engineer for a Hayabusa motor.

Any thoughts/advice appreciated.

Peter.

Hey K6thou.
That offer might just help me rebuild what I have.
Let me know what you find.

Cheers
Peter.

Here are some more pics of the damage and one of the race car in full flight, with my son driving, just prior.
When it went back the back wheels locked and spun the car off the track, along with the others following that spun on the oil.

I found the cases I have mate, it would appear they are from an M model, they look to be in good shape.....

Do you know what the differences are between the M and J models?
I think the output bearing is a bit bigger (wider) which means I might need to run a longer output shaft????
I think the M will also have bigger holes for the cylinder block which might mean it will accept a bandit blockwithout modification.
Are there any other differences that you know of?

What a bugger! Rebuild willbe the cheaper method, BUT, the Busa will handle that sort of power without this kind of thing happening again. Maybe this is the time for the move up?

Thanks for the thoughts.

I guess it will ultimately boil down to costs and time and what options surface.
I have a lot of development buried in the GSXR1100 engine.
Changing to a Busa engine would open up a whole new line of development.
I am sure ultimately I will end up with a much more powerful and potentially more reliable solution but it will take some time to get it all sorted.
