pretty sure it would be, but thought i would check with someone who might know (Ben?)

4140 steel would be fine for spacers and whatnot yeah? maybe even for an axle if i'm feeling so inclined?

also would it be fine for a brake rotor adapter? (for my DRZ to put a 320 disk on a cbr250 front wheel) or possibly even a custom solid disk? (we have a cnc plasma cutter at work that i figure i could get one made, the only issue then i assume would be making sure it has no runout and whatnot.

4140 is a bit of an over kill i think.

I made disc centres out of 5083 Al. and it was good so 4140 would be choice as bro, plus some weight but don't worry about that.

Get it zinced...

The only reason I ask about 4140 is because it's what we use at work for almost everything.

So how would I go about actually making a full solid rotor for the Dr tard? I can get it plasma cut, but then how do I go about getting it perfectly true?

i would have thought water or laser for cutting.... plasma wouldnt be any good IMO

just spin it up in the lathe , then get it precission ground if your making a disk.

Surface grinding machine I would say if you wanna be picky

Why's that? The plasma cuts mint edges in steel up too over an inch. Also does near perfect holes.

mainly cos of the heat if your worried about buckling

i don't think it really heats it up that much (overall that is, obviously it does a lot locally... that's what it does :P)

I'll have to machine it to make it flat anyway, so a little warping wouldn't be a huge worry would it?

well, being in the metal trade, and having to use a plasma cutter by hand all the time,i know it gets fucking hot. obviously a machine cut is more efficient than by hand, but i wouldn`t be sticking my tonge on it,and with the multiple cuts needed on a disc, unless solid.i think you would get distortion. if you got a spare sheet to play with, give it a go, but i`d be going water or laser!

i totally agree

I'll have a chitty chat to the dude that runs the plasma Tomorrow and see what he reckons about warping and whatnot.

He cut some detailed little scroll things to pretty up a tool box the other day so i think that would be a fair comparison.

Sharks with fricken Lasers on their heads.........

I've made some disc's, laser cut them surface ground.

I would wash grind if i did it again....
