I use a Cateye enduro, but it's not backlit and cuts out at a 106km/h. I know the Cateye Velo is good for up to 300km/h or the Cateye micro wireless which as the name suggests is wireless and has a backlight. try http://www.cateye.com/ or EBAY.

I used the cateye velo. Goes to 300kph all in big numbers. has about 7 different functions inc, top speed, timer, odo, dist traveled etc. $45 from the unmotorcycle shop. Good value i reckon.

Its a bit hard to ride by sound when the Vic Police WILL book you for doing 2kph over the speed limit.

That's why I have the Cateye enduro Oz. I was refering to the engine sound rather than having a tacho.

if only it went above 106kph it would be perfect

and since it has an odometer i think it would pass ADRs too

I run a Sigma BC800 bicycle computer, and it works well. Cheap, easy to set up (on a GPz900R, which had the old mechanical feed speedo), a number of functions, and it goes up to 300 kph. And you can now buy a handlebar mounted light for night-time. And the unit is very small and discrete.
I don't run a tacho. If I can't feel what revs i'm doing after 1/4 century of riding then I shouldn't be on the bike. Do run a temp guage though, which I re-housed in a stop light nacelle for a pocket bike chopper.
I built my own idiot light set-up using high intensity LED's and an alloy block (an offcut from the riser plate blocks actually)

Guys I'm considering installing a bike speedo as suggeted above. I did a quick search on the net and found a very simple 12v-3v conversion so you can forget the idea of using batteries to keep ur speedo running. Just need to use a multimeter to work out which output wires is which. Obviously check the cigarette addapter is made for 3vs aswell.

Hey guys, These computers are really nice. My brothers got one on his Motard and they work well. They even have a billet motorcycle holder for them.

I have seen them under other brands for like $9.00AUD on Ebay but I can't give you any idea of quality. They look exactly the same except for the brand name.

here's a link for them but you can also buy them from Ballard's Dirt Bikes in Australia.

You can get them wireless as well....

Just realised this thread is still alive...

Just so you know, I ended up getting a cateye velo 5. Works well enough. My calibration was a bit shit- a reading of 100 was more like 110, but I could work with that (and too lazy to re-calibrate)

I am now refitting the original clocks behind a new custom HL unit (a Dane_ra special of course;)) Mainly for the convienience of a temp gauge.

If I hada disposable income, I would have a flashy unit that Stu sells, but then come to think of it, I would also have a single sided swinger and just about everything else from www.austreetfighter.com.au [^][:p]

I'm on to my 2nd Sigma unit and third bracket already, and it ain't looking too healthy.

The accessory light unit works kinda OK, but the button lasted all of 2 days.

They just ain't rugged enough for bikes, the cases and mounts keep breaking apart. Won't be buying another one of them.
