Liking it alot, very different. ;)

And plenty of room in front of the motor for the turbo lol

another barmy pommy! lovin ur efforts mate not really the idea itself but my vision of a reverse trike is rather in a canam spider's way, that how i would build it - hopefully i will some day - very low, much lower than any sport bike and with front wheels set pretty wide, probably awd 3x3

I like it so far.

That's... different. I think I like it.

Could either turn out to be one of the most unique builds on here, or an entertaining mess, look forward to seeing which!

thanks for the welcomes guys!
this certainly wont be a bike for wheelying lol more along the lines of power sliding :) gonna be downgearing it for acceleration

all the major welding like the headstock was/will be done by a bloke at goddard engineering really good guys there and willing to help, other welding like the brackets etc i can do an if needs be he can go over them to neaten them up before powder/paint :)
the front end wont be hidden but will be powdercoated so will look alot neater..... its just to be to try and hide so gonna make it look as good as possible lol

dont think i'll be going down turbo route for a few years, i gotta be able to insure it lol at 24 with a turbo blade trike thing that might be a bit difficult ;)

i like normal reverse trikes, seen some awesome ones on the net but my main aim was still being able to lean and for it to still have a motorbike-ish feel to it rather than a bike frame/engine then no leaning capabilities

this wont be going on the road if its just an entertaining mess lol want it to be summin special that i can enjoy and other people can say WTF? lol

just to make people aware as well the wheels i posted the pics of are the wheels i will be using
2x 14" by 4.5" dezent l car wheels on the front mounted on a custom hub then i can also upgrade the brakes and shocks
and a 17" by 7" lenso D1R car wheel on the back

started working on my subframe rails today, took fucking forever lol
had to blank the end of the tubes off so firstly i tacked a square bit of plate onto the end of the tube and used a flap disc on my grinder to get the circle perfect

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/562025_10151562510235274_880775273_23990277_850802 274_n.jpg

as you can see it i did that so the end was a bit narrower, so now turn the end plate upside down and fill the space with weld

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/546177_10151562512080274_880775273_23990279_140443 24_n.jpg

that way i have enough penetration and weld there so i can grind it back flush like so :)

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/527964_10151562513880274_880775273_23990282_718125 249_n.jpg

cut out my end plates for the mounting holes and got those welded in place

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/540206_10151562515855274_880775273_23990285_185703 5808_n.jpg

had to do that 4 times just to get the top rails made! before i blanked the other end off i cleaned the filings out and sprayed the inside with primer

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/546127_10151562516300274_880775273_23990286_129114 2513_n.jpg

lastly i cut out more mounts to bolt to the existing subframe and got those welded on and ground back as well. finally the top rails are done! just need to weld the tabs to frame and i can mount it

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/535837_10151562499360274_880775273_23990236_170632 3655_n.jpg

the good news is that from side on the top rails are hidden from view which is wat i wanted

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/558692_10151562501710274_880775273_23990250_908767 945_n.jpg

now i gotta do all that AGAIN to make the bottom rails :(
hopefully get them made over the next few days and get the seat unit mounted!
that'll be one big tick off my list.........

As everyone else said, wow that's different. I like where it's going. Have you had any thoughts on the extra weight of the rest of the bike on that scooter front end? I'm assuming it's a 500 front not the smaller one. Great concept tho.

Hi Dan, thats some talent you have for 24 years of age, fair play to you.

Another UK biker here, up near Santa Pod which is my favourite play ground.

I've seen those 3 wheel scooters at Taz MCs in Peterboro, the lads reckon they handle !!!!
Italian aint they?

Nice build and thanks for sharing with us. Always good to see some new ground being broken.

What a fuckin' awesome post! Cheers mate.

So many questions pop into my head while looking at the photos. Can't wait to get feedback on the first ride from you. I'm wondering how all the weight at the front will be when you get down in the twsities, is it going to want to drag you forward instead of round at the speeds you'll be doing on a 900 compared to a little moped? Are the new wheels on the front going to be the same width and if not won't making them wider cause turning issues?

Fascinating mate. Hats off to you for this build - both the idea and execution.

thanks alot guys! glad your enjoying the build............

its a front end off of the mp3 125cc but the bike were the same for 125cc 250cc and 400cc, i'll be adding strength where needed mainly in the hubs, front brakes and front suspension the rest is really strong

yep italian scooters, piaggio mp3. apparently so testers reckon there really quick going into corners as less of a chance of understeer and dragging wide............

as for the handling with the 900rr power plant thats yet to be established lol but it still has 3 big contact patches rather than 2 so dragging wide shouldnt be too bad can always overcome that with a bit of throttle oversteer ;)

been a few days since an update!
looks like im gonna have to run 2 rear discs for the front as im not gonna have anywhere near enough room to run front discs, it looks like i should be able to use a couple of gsx1400 discs in 160mm big, still want to use a set of r1 radial calipers though.
gotta order a wheel so i can do some actual measuring next.........
and for the front shocks

http://www.super7thheaven.co.uk/images/yamaha-r6-shock-absorber.jpg

looks like im gonna be using 2x 03-04 r6 shocks as there about the right length i need and the resovoir is vertical rather than horizontal so they should look ok as well, if spring is too stiff i'll just swap it out for a lighter one (is there gonna be a problem if i use a shock that was meant to have the linkage?)

got my top subframe mounts welded on today and ground the welds down flush

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/540494_10151636326040274_880775273_24090576_191179 672_n.jpg

is there gonna be a problem if i use a shock that was meant to have the linkage?

I think the valving in the shock would be alittle different.
You could look into some PDS shocks off KTM dirtbikes? Maybe the mini bikes would be about the right length, and since you'd have two of them,it might not be not overly firm like what 2 road bike shocks would be??

Anyway, cant wait to see this up and running!!

Edit: or how bout a twin shock set up of a newish bike?? They run no linkages, and the two shocks work similar to the single sports bike one?

Thanks hos but im thinking of going for used discs or a nice couple of ebc ones :). Thanks for the heads up tho!

hey guys small update for you lot
ive ordered a mint 03-04 yamaha r6 rear shock (dont worry about spring rate an damping etc as a company who can remake the spring to the specs i need :D)
could of got some xjr shocks or similar but i only have enough room for about 310mm MAX! the standard shocks are way too soft so that a no go as well
im in the middle of getting some prices on the tube bends for the frame work
also may have found myslef 2 suzuki ignis wheels 4.5" wide 14" to use on the front for only £70 delivered! :)

whilst im waiting to do work i had a play on photoshop with colourschemes (this is with the ignis wheels)

Funny that, I thought the same thing - and that's NOT like me!

I think it's because the majority white with blue makes the hardware (engine / forks set up) subdued, whereas the other darker colours accentuate them and make them stand out.

If not that then I'd paint the whole thing Mad Max matt black as it looks like some crazy machine from the apocalyptic future!

will hopefully be ordering the frame bends anytime now so next week i should be starting to tack the bracing in place :D

I think you should move the can, i don't think you should cover the wheel if you have a SSSA.

other wise it's cool.

I like the Blue frame / white tank and black frame with orange tank.

I'd put a two 90 deg bends and a short straight to make a 180 deg bend right after the final collector running to left side of motor but keep it all under the donk , then another at the front of the motor to swing it back to the rear between the motor and headers increasing in size as it goes to match the exsisting tail pipe (but horozontal) and under the right side with the tail pipe finishing level with the start of the inversion cone to rear frame upright.

Tony Nitrous

I dont get it....

Redmohawk
14-05-2012, 08:41 AM
run a loop of exaust from collectors to front so can feed starts at front end of motor down low. (side slung below motor) then swing arm tyre and tail are all you see at the back.

Increased length will help scavanging (improving bottom end slightly) and a little length of similar bore to can entrance will assist exaust note with the small inversion cone can to sound a little deeper with less pop n crackel. While effectivey shortening the exahust "look".

15-05-2012, 04:35 AM
hey guys! the exhaust will only cover the wheel a tiny bit...... thats in its mockup place as i have to cut the downpipe and weld it back together coming up in the right place

that description of the exhaust idea confused the feck outta me lol but i think i understand what you mean after re-reading it lol

got a little bit done today but was wet and cold out there........... and i ran out of welding wire!
heres the final frame bracing design for the front, should be ordering it today/tomo and hopefully have it in my hands before weekend

made a start on the cross brace for the subframe, cut the tube down to size and welded a nut onto the back of the blanking plate

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/536081_10151709790555274_880775273_24227575_176094 951_n.jpg

then put in place loosely and tack it together

managed to get 1 end welded up solid and sanded back smooth, then ran out of wire halfway through welded up the other end!!! here it is in place bolted down

Thats feckin Amazing, thats why its so satisfying when its done..just a couple of questions..im assuming that the plate and brake caliper in front of the steering head is a park brake to keep it uprite when parked..and i must say that we Aussies are envious that you will be able to register this thing as we would have to jump through hoops of fire to get rego..bloody Nanny state...anyway looking forward to the next few stages as you continue on this build!! good luck..morry

hey guys!
dont worry there will be loads of pics!
i havnt got a fucking clue about headlights lol feel free to post up suggestions!
yep the triangle brake disk is exactly that, might leave it on if i can find a decent place for the lever and if i can make it look right!
im not looking forward to registering this, as it needs a single vehichle inspection and there quite strict with it but as long as i do everything properly it should be fine............... the next few stages should really make it start to take shape, trust me i cant wait either :D

had a few hours before work today so got some shit done! (a lil)
the shock mounts was really pissing me off and the shock was too close to the swingarm bolt as well
so off they came and heres the templates for the new ones

you can see my idea for the subframe mount, didnt want to use the shock bolt as would need the remove top shock mount to take subbie off so that was a no go...........
onto to the plate

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/550937_10151719650325274_880775273_24261950_200753 5225_n.jpg

just need to make the subframe mounts and tack it all together then the subbie will be near enough done apart from bracing :D

thanks neo :)

evening guys!
not got much done on the bike been painting some mates parts

but i did make a start on trimming the seat down

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/392529_10151738978090274_880775273_24331687_205626 8741_n.jpg

think im gonna have to do the foam again as i need to widen the seat a lil to fit on the seat unit better
anyone know any places to by the foam i need???

another thing im struggling with, is what the fuck is this rivet THING and how do i get it out/off

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/578110_10151739539305274_880775273_24334489_173641 9806_n.jpg

been doing some thinking and i might be able to use kawasaki b1h zx6r 03-04 discs on the front with the r1 radial 4 pots, gotta get some actual measurments or find a disc and a caliper cheap just in case they dont work, i hate not knowing if summin will work without possibly having to buy them first!................ :(

if anyone can help please chime in and help a fighterer out!

UK_Bitsa_Biker

im one excited fighterer!
look what the postie bought me this time!

unfortunately not had a chance to actually do anything on the bike as im painting some bits for a couple of mates
but heres a mock up shot of one of the bends, its near as exactly the same as the frame bend.......... couldnt get a good shot of the other bends

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/576419_10151750575730274_880775273_24372624_911280 968_n.jpg

wish i had more of an update for u guys :( still waiting on the caliper to finally decide wat disks i can use!

25-05-2012, 08:08 PM
I'm no expert actually I'm fuckin' far from one lol but the rivet thing you will have have to 'dig' out, for want of a better term..... it appears to be pressed in type of thing that only works one way if you know what I mean..... other than that mate hats off to you, I can't wait to see it with rubber on the front. ;)

UK_Bitsa_Biker
28-05-2012, 08:28 AM
Thanks k6thou! :)

Hey guys
Been working all weekend so not got anything done on this thing
But had a play on photoshop with a potential colourscheme :D

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/181837_10151761558785274_880775273_24419213_623649 07_n.jpg

Its a graphite grey which would have a slight blue metallic and orange wildfire pearl
What do you guys think? Any suggestions........
Will hopefully be working on it this week :)

Mishdog20
28-05-2012, 07:34 PM
In my opinion mate, the wheels might look a bit full on with the orange, but i reckon it looks good on the tank and ducktail. I'm being biased though cause i liked the Blue and white scheme..lol

UK_Bitsa_Biker
29-05-2012, 06:41 AM
hey thanks mishdog, i like the blue and white but i dont think white is the colour for it, i see white as quite a poser-y colour for a nice bike, i think this would suit darker colours as its kinda got like a thug/muscular(fat) thing goin for it lol :)

got another small parcel in today

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/577703_10151764976520274_880775273_24433288_125029 4818_n.jpg

so finally i could do my mockup disk fitment to see if i can run the zx6r discs
cardboard disk (nice and lightweight ;) ) and used an old vfr axle to centre it

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/294942_10151764983780274_911411458_n.jpg
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/11797_10151764977840274_880775273_24433299_1899622 190_n.jpg

heres the mockup for disk and caliper :D

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/538244_10151764981715274_1391504225_n.jpg

here the clearance when using a 280mm disk, looks just about right dunno if i can go up to a 290mm disk might be too close to the rim but i'll be happy using zx6r front disks

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/553430_10151764995120274_880775273_24433459_147468 252_n.jpg
http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/179900_10151764979960274_1461160142_n.jpg

so now ive pretty much got everything so i can start making up some drawings for the frontend conversion!
(just need the fucking money for it lol)

would you have to unbolt the disc to change pads?

another 10mm of clearance would probably be nice IMO

UK_Bitsa_Biker
03-06-2012, 06:48 AM
hey fimpbikes would have to take wheel off to change pads but that no biggie as its only 4 bolts :) small price to pay to hav better stopping power! :D

hey guys im back!
hopefully an update you'll like medimicated ;)
got quite a few pictures to show as i forgot to update this a few days ago.......

got the front stripped again ready to cut off the rest of the remaining mp3 frame bits (what a bastard it is to strip lol)

just need to sort the bars out now to give it a better stance
i think im happy with how the bracing is looking an the shape but im not sure lol need to do a lil bit more modification as it just hits the tilt arms (either need to weld in a dent or shave the arms)
so there you have it guys! loads of pictures and was a fuck load of work as well! :D

so let me have it........ what do ya think??? need opinions???

I like the concept , and think your flying along. I'm a bit concerned with the weight of the bike and alot of it at the front end with the headstem only having tubes without bracing holding it all together. Wouldnt take much to crack and cause some major issues for you, looks hard to gusset the front end to with all that front end getting in the way.

Maybe some form of extra tube between the top and lower frame rails to give more stiffness to the frame near the headstem ? I like the look as it is , and I know fitting another tube in will prob spoil the "look" But I'd err on stronger if I was riding this mad machine!

At the very least I'd be going to a gas mig so your welds (not picking your welds more the tool) are that little bit better (I used gasless for years building buggies n go carts) Once you go gas you'll avoid gasless when ever you can. And try to squeeze in some triangulated gussets into the head area.

with the orange wheels they look great ,dont get to concerned about to much ,orange,i coped a flogging for having "to much orange" on my last fighter ,lol each to there own ,love the build ,though.

UK_Bitsa_Biker

thanks guys
redmohawk: dont worry, your concerns are already covered :) the frame is gonna be braced alot more than just the lower tubing, gonna have more braces joining the bottom bar to the top (as in photoshop i did) and at the front the left and right side will be connected with another brace and then conneced again to the top rail, will be adding corner gussets wherever needed also. hopefully all will become clearer the further i get into it :D
thanks for the thoughts tho....... i always say any worries please voice them just incase i havnt thought about it!

there will be quite a bit of orange but im not gonna go ott with it as its gonna be mega bright lol, gonna use a bright orange base with either bright gold or orange microflake on top then a candy orange sprayed lightly over that followed by clear and the gunmetal stripes. the microflake will be subtle enough but wen the sun hits it this thing should POP!! :D

didnt get much done today but i did get the left side engine mount done so now i can start doing the left bracing

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/522219_10151787111615274_73327310_n.jpg

while i was out there i thought i would see what the r6 fairing looked like on it (this is just a very rough mock up, would sit in line with the ass end and over the tilt arms)

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/537655_10151787113125274_1538164066_n.jpg

dont forget not gonna be using those shit bars
thinking of running a couple of supermoto ish mudgaurds (that sit off the tire rather than hugging it close) think kinda like a quad bit like this (middle is r6 fairing then a could of raised muddies)

http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/150571/150571,1235380941,6/stock-photo-black-suzuki-quad-bike-isolated-on-white-25458610.jpg

i think the front fairing has definately got potential just needs some chopping and glassing to fit over the arms properly
wats your thoughts?

forgot to say as well, my welder is gas/gasless but ive either run out of gas or its stopped working with gas, so im just tacking it all up with gasless then i have a mate who is an amazing welder, an i'll get him to finish weld it and im gonna grind my welds down so he can go over them also :) i can weld strong enough but wouldnt be as neat an i want this thing to be a showstopper!

haha hopefully it wont look too much like one wen its done :)

been working on the left side of the frame
its a pain in the ass as the left side of engine doesnt stick out as much as right, the 2 sides wont be symetrical but im not that bothered as they still look similar.
ignore the rear left brace as that needs changing, its sticking out too much compared to the right side. its just tacked in place to keep it all strong till i fuck about with it again lol
i'll let the pics do the talking as cant be assed to type loads tonight :D

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/543258_10151794797600274_69734418_n.jpg

so the frames coming along nicely, will look more together wen the extra bracing is on there and after i get the whole thing sandblasted as well
but at least its no longer a wobbly single tube frame, once i get these bits tacked in place properly in there actual place i can take the engine out and start adding gussets and tidyings things up!
hopefully this rain wont last too long either :(

UK_Bitsa_Biker

not been able to do anything to frame as of work but i have got some more bits to add to it soon! :D

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/481195_10151801362175274_389092016_n.jpg

thats the tube that will be cut into sections and used as the brace between lower an upper rails...........
an on that subject im toying with 3 designs the that bracing, i think i like number 1?

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/11829_10151801359230274_1336219417_n.jpg

what do you guys think
or if you have any other design suggestions let me hear them as its doing my head in lol

UK_Bitsa_Biker
10-06-2012, 06:40 AM
well im really starting to get excited now!
an heres why
got the first bit cut and shaped to fit real good..........

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/185086_10151806934890274_182165070_n.jpg

here it is from the front and back

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/165402_10151806939430274_894440828_n.jpg
http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/554307_10151806938525274_1306321891_n.jpg

fit nicely
so i moved onto the rear section, cut and shaped near enough perfect again :D

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/185192_10151806935820274_689542692_n.jpg

and again from front and rear view

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/389727_10151806936740274_869252877_n.jpg
http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/307021_10151806937710274_1213331372_n.jpg

theres a straight bit that is yet to be added at the front.
im loving how it all flows and matches other parts for angles eg the front brace matches the engine angle an the rear brace matches the back of the frame lower..........
really starting to look like summin now and im smiling from ear to ear!

so now i gotta get them tacked in place and get a lil bit more tubing bent so i can do the left side!

thoughts? critiscisms? shout away!

S'been a long weekend here so haven't been back to see this one, BUT, I reckon that the first idea was the best one mate. By keeping both the braces leaning towards the front oif the bike, it gives a the bike a sportier stance. Don't get me wrong, the one you have done also looks good but I reckon the forward facing would just be more aesthetically pleasing, and the bracing would be surely as strong?

UK_Bitsa_Biker

sorry been holding out on you guys with the updates on it over the last few days :(
got the right side braces tacked into place

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/576990_10151821692545274_682701948_n.jpg

so onto the left side at last, redid the rear brace first as it stuck out alot more than the right side

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/401844_10151821689495274_521032524_n.jpg

much better!
gote the left rear upright brace tacked into place

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/251878_10151821691510274_667878518_n.jpg
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/282701_10151821690495274_2085738880_n.jpg

before i could do the front upright brace i had to get the engine out (good test to see how easy it is) so i could ground some old bits off

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/599741_10151827691805274_1975664075_n.jpg

and tada front upright also tacked in place!

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/206026_10151827692900274_1038635158_n.jpg

im absolutely loving how the frame looks, and with a few more lil bits to add it should be damn strong!

I have to say this build is feckin amazing good on you !!im interested to see how it will ride with what looks to be a higher C of G and so much more power..but your a master of improvisation. are you still going to use the stock rim/tyre combo with the rounded profile, as car tyres with square profile will resist the ability to lean over and will tend to fall over once your off the square edge.and the wider the front tyre will tend to bump steer by that i mean the steering will be knocked off line by bumps catching the outside edge of the tyre..anyway keep up the awesome work..im so looking forward to the finished product

thanks rock hard! the handling is anyones guess lol but if its totally shit then will need to adjust/change bits around :)
using a 200/17" (hopefully pirelli diablo bike tire) for the rear on the 7"x17" car wheel and 2x 160/14" pirelli diablo scoot tires for the front on the 4.5"x14" suzuki ignis wheels......... so still running bike tires all round :)

had a few hours out at it today
got the front brace cut shaped and tacked into place

and lastly got the tank trimmed up a bit so it sits on the frame rails, looks loads better without the massive gap

you nut job. you crazy crazy fellow....... that is pluken INSANE!!!! and i mean that in the awsome way.
i reckon this stands out for me as the most momorable build i've seem on any forum!!!

yeah ok, sic, some dude has built hjis own frame, and that other dude made all his own fibreglass stuff, but this is a designer build. completely free from the subconcious constrains on free thought

this stands at the upper echelon. awsome stuff mate.

thanks guys!
an thanks dan for making me laugh with that comment :) means alot when you see some of the awesome stuff being built, an im just fettling in back garden lol

hey guys
been dormant for a while, doesn't help that my pc has eaten shit :( so im on my mums laptop lol
but i have been getting a few things done :D
starting with getting the finishing touches put on the subframe (needs a bit of more finishing but this is the design)
got the bits cut to length and coped......

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/480981_10151889086670274_544389318_n.jpg

then welded them in place

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/582208_10151889087750274_994539448_n.jpg

i really like the way it looks but its gonna be a huge pain in the ass trying to make an undertray for it! but glad i decided on this other than the normal bottom rails
next up i got some work done on the side panels so they meet the tank better
started by putting tin foil on subframe and tank an covered it in masking tape

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/599260_10151892649030274_129701026_n.jpg

followed by some big slops of fiberglass padding filler

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/246418_10151892650130274_848887917_n.jpg

and demasked it looked like this

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/554149_10151892651795274_1232329163_n.jpg

managed to get it sanded/filed to shape, still needs more sanding to get it smooth enough for just a small wipe of filler but it looks soo much better now, just need to extend the seat a lil bit

it follows the tank and frame real nice now so im happy!
and finally a mte of mine from facebook so i could have 3 shocks off him as he was gonna ditch them! BARGAIN! who doesnt love free stuff............ (i already had bought an r6 shock so now got a pair of r6 shocks and r1's, probably gonna use the r6's on the front and the r1 possibly on the rear. gettin them revalved and powdercoated eventually)

even tho we had MASSIVE! storms today i was still out there working away............
now ive got my subframe near enough done i started working on making an udertray for the zx6r rear
started with a rough cardboard template of the bit im filling in

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/561016_10151908957860274_46619764_n.jpg

got myself a couple sheets of 5mm abs

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/599977_10151908955550274_744362889_n.jpg

here it is after transferring the template onto it before cutting the slots for the subframe, only rough cuts.

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/603510_10151908956385274_1867043839_n.jpg

then with a bit more cutting, sanding and drilling it fits nicely

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/409588_10151908957015274_1085563064_n.jpg

now i just gotta make the front part and im done with it, had to make it 2 part cuz of the subframe. wanna either use dzus fasteners or the plastic rivet things that manufacturers use.............

i also need some help on the tank, as im not using the front portion, im gonna have to get rid of the breather bit

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/181162_10151908959110274_825561607_n.jpg
http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/208874_10151908961065274_1386913823_n.jpg

but do i need to somehow put another vent in the tank? will be running a fuel pump if that makes any difference???

and lastly do i still need to keep this bit of pipe?? or can i cut it off and leave the lil hole as a vent???

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/600119_10151908960105274_1751976782_n.jpg

thanks surt! will be filling in those holes soon

thanks banditrod i would use a harley cap but i dint wanna have to cut the old cap out

got my cam lock through already, ordered a 32mm long one and its ideal for what i need for :)
looking forward to getting the seat done now lol

think im gonna go with one of these breather valves in place of the standard part at the front of the tank

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/oncirrus/system/trans.png

but im not sure if the thread is the same as the standard thread on the tank??

got a start on the templates for the tank bottom, still need to make a template for the tank extension at the back/bottom to allow for a decent amount of petrol in it

next i gotta transfer them onto metal and get to cutting!
been having more of a play with the r6 front race fairing, will show wen ive got more cutting done lol, wen it looks less like ASS :D

wackyrider

Why don't you leave the breather where it is and just extend the hose internally to the back section where the 'real' tank will be.

UK_Bitsa_Biker

been a while!
been working on the vfr as its mot is due soon :(
but i have been playing around with the front fairing design a bit more, wasnt happy with how the r6 fairing was sitting on it in the last pics, was way to high and just didnt look right
so i cut it up a lil more and got out the cardboard and started to make a mock up

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/373780_10151970633320274_284521250_n.jpg

With some trick paint to split up the solidness of the front that should work real well. If you can follow the crease line on the tank through to the front fairing rear parts where they meet the tank, you'll score even higher!

with ur welds why dont you by some anti-splatter ??? comes in a rattlecan you spray the job area and also the mig nozzle and its less mess to clean ??

had a few hours out at it today

long time no update :( but thanks for all the comments!

after a long period of no motivation (been working on my vfr750 project and my xr400 sumo project :) ) i finally had the URGE to get back on this thing today.
sorry guys but im back at it now!!

got summin planned for the tank but will see how it goes with the front fairing first to see if my idea will look right.
got a really loud orange paintscheme that im going with but will be also having some gunmetal metallic grey design on it, as well as some ghosted knuckle dusters ;)

my seat lock has been sitting in my room for the last few weeks so i thought i would start with getting that done.......

filled the whole where it needed to go in the seat with fiberglass and drilled the squared off circle for the lock to fit in place and also did the hole in the foam

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/296515_10152073182510274_1816078803_n.jpg
http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/546004_10152073182860274_309663187_n.jpg

worked out a charm and looks nice and neat.
after that i thought i would make a start on the tank. started by get the tamplates transferred from cardboard onto the steel sheet i hav

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/292060_10152073183345274_1980361166_n.jpg

bent it up by hand and got it tacked into place

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/206193_10152073184075274_1852793462_n.jpg

was really happy with the tacks as i havnt worked with thin sheet steel with my welder yet (turned up the amps after this bead to get a lil more penetration)

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/547098_10152073184615274_1136210856_n.jpg

thanks albi! wat did tony say cant remember? lol
the tank has got a fair bit more work as well yet and hopefully a surprise for it......... :)
wat do you mean you dont get the front? do you mean my reasoning for doing it? an sorry but whats approach angle? :S lean angle unmolested is 40 degree and i can mill it down a couple of mm to give a lil more but will see wat it rides like first lol
thanks for the compliments as well bud!

thanks gereen! dunno about talent more like lots of imagination, determination and a "fuck it why not" attitude ;) lol

couldnt resist doing a bit of shopping so got my ass down to the fiberglass place down the road and got me some SUPPLIES!

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/577137_10152078275300274_1218293768_n.jpg

after that got my templates cut an bent out of some steel mesh for the additions on the r6 fairing, covered it all in duct tape now all i gotta do is add a polish or similar on the tape and lay the glass on there..........

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/320153_10152075765345274_292824640_n.jpg

thats the templates for the right side then gotta try and make the left ones the same (gonna be a real pain in the ASS!)
im making the sides/shapes seperately, will cut them all down to size and fiberglass them together then glass them onto the remains of the cut up r6 fairing :)

got my insurance assesment tomo for my claim so dont think i'll get it started tomo but i have thursday and friday off so watch this space..........

hey fellows riders and fighterers!

have been working on it but havnt had the chance to update it here SORRY!!
but it does mean there is quite a few pictures to add :)

will start where i left off with the fiberglassing
got the "moulds" polished with some rain off stuff to aid removal of the piece, and all set out ready for the messy part!

http://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/304669_10152109321475274_181158056_n.jpg

the bits i managed to finish came off the taped moulds really easy so the rain off stuff worked a treat
back onto the tank, got the rear section cut, bent into shape and welded on then started marking out where i needed to make some cuts for the extension

lets hear what ya gotta say!

K6Thou

I know the tank extension will be kind of hidden but in my humble opinion it would look better with more rounded edges instead of the square style you have in the mock up.... All the round frame tubes around it makes it look out of place to me. Other than that mate I like where this is going.

UK_Bitsa_Biker
20-09-2012, 08:47 AM
hey man
ya i noticed that when i had it on there, i will probably round the edges off when i make it in metal and for the front part, that will have an external fuel pump mounted to it and i'll probably fab up a small curved cover for the pump so it wont look exactly like that when its finished :D

keep the thoughts comin tho guys! thats why i like sharing my bikes :)

got the main part cut out and bent into shape, then tacked it in place to check fitment

http://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/408846_10152123638020274_1131171444_n.jpg
http://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/156134_10152123638215274_1209084414_n.jpg

once that was in place i decided to work on the fuel tap before closing it all in
so i welded in the nuts and blanked them off, wasnt pretty as i couldnt see where i was welding but there water tight and will never be seen again lol :) and sorted out the filler cap water pipe, im using a vfr750 fuel tap

all thats left to do is drill out the tap hole in the middle and get the sides an front part of it cut and tacked in place then the tank will be basically finished, that will be one of the BIG jobs crossed off the list!

well managed to get some build time on this thing today :D
was working on the tank and im another BIG step closet to it being done

cut out the front section and got it completely welded in

http://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/564450_10152148246915274_698127708_n.jpg

managed to get some real nice beads going as well, all this with a lil mig and flux wire :) (ignore the spatter as that will all be sanded off)

http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/486734_10152148247695274_1910264411_n.jpg
http://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/543242_10152148248370274_347213567_n.jpg

the bottom weld looks like ass, as there was a gap i had to fill, but as long as it water tight im happy as the front portion will have a layer of fiberglass to cover the inside for neatness and strength

managed to get to side sections cut out as well.

http://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/603292_10152148224870274_252561747_n.jpg
http://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/384196_10152148226420274_39445751_n.jpg

just need to get them cut down to size and welded in then the tank is basicaly done apart from tidying it up and adding the sight glasses
good news is ive got another day off tomo :) but the weather is absolutely shite............. not gonna stop me tho!

one other note, i gaffered up the sides so i could check the capacity and it holds 14 litre's which should be plenty enough for wat i want it for!

was back at it again today, an the weather was a bit more on my side......

http://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/534183_10152151371905274_819493338_n.jpg

then all welded up and sitting in position

http://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/560792_10152151372625274_1253687989_n.jpg

got the right side cut and shaped after again fit perfect..... then tacked it in place, cant weld it fully unitil i get the sight glasses welded into it first. drew on the position of where the sight glasses will be

http://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/564028_10152151372885274_766793928_n.jpg

going to get the sights on order this week along with the front tank vent but i dont know if its the same thread as the standard vent that screws in :(

got one of the front legs dismantled and took loads of pictures so i can start designing the front end parts for the wheel swap :) need to think about getting them bits done soon........ thats when it gets REAL INTERESTING!!! ;)

Bit of an update on the build itself kinda mixed news really.
I can't use the 14" 4.5" wheels on the front as they are as the only tires I could use would be rear use only and fail the sva cuz of it! :(

So wat I'm going to do is get the ignis rims narrowed by 1" so I can fit a 120 70 14", it was either narrow the rim or get a pair of 3 piece rims to my dimensions but that would be £500 :( an I've been quoted £250 to narrow the pair

BUT this does mean I can now get the front wheelbase to under the 18" allowance so I can legally class the vehicle as a MOTORBIKE! :D
Which is at least quite cool....... so this may no longer be a trike that's a motorbike ;)

My mate came up with a possible name for it as well. How does this sound?
Meet the.................... "TRI-BLADE"

got a set of 03-04 zx6r front discs on there way to me

i have some quite exciting drawings as well :)
managed to get all the front end parts that i need drawn up to scale and with measurments! those front end parts are feeling closer already

first the supension linkage (the pics will do most of the talking)

http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/10463_10152163220005274_1746793380_n.jpg
http://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/47521_10152163220190274_359385503_n.jpg

the caliper holder, which will be welded around onto the suspension linkage and will be a press on fit onto the shaft

http://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/68778_10152163217430274_1588787731_n.jpg

now for the wheel hub which will recess a lil into the caliper holder (the circled number 1 and 2 are where the bearings will sit

http://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/430492_10152163219590274_1966787296_n.jpg
http://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/548392_10152163219780274_1358140201_n.jpg

heres a very rough sketch to show how it all fits together

http://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/304096_10152163220480274_1861700760_n.jpg

just got to draw the shaft up (already know the dims for it)
going to hopefully speak to a few people about the prices to get it all machined, not looking forward to hearing the price but this is probably the most expensive part of the build left apart from the finishing of it like new bolts, nuts and paintjob oh and getting the shocks re-done...............

should really start seeing it come together once these bits are done

got a few bits done over the last few days as well
picked myself up a couple of nuts, holesaw etc to get work on this tank, oh and the sight glasses finally turned up :D
got to work cutting out the 20mm holes an got the nuts welded on the back of em (nuts were a bit overkill but i dint wanna wait an order some smaller so they will do fine lol) had to preheat the nuts first to get a decent weld

http://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/208091_10152197927130274_1105600695_n.jpg
http://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/69517_10152197926640274_2113564346_n.jpg

got rid of the spatter before welding the side on
heres the side welded in, the sights on and got the hole filed out to fit the petrol tap as well (the holes are now welded up as well)

my zx6r discs turned up as well :) so i got the setup mocked up to see about clearances

http://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/418172_10152197929735274_1214970678_n.jpg

and again the clearance is near spot on perfect!

http://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/426193_10152197930425274_2082238659_n.jpg

280mm discs with 05 r1 4 spot radial calipers worked by an 07 r1 radial master cylinder and with 2 contact patches...................... this things should stop GOOOOOOOOOD!!

hopefully gonna get a few of the smaller jobs that make a big difference done in the next couple of days, like figure out footrest mount placements maybe the seat mount etc

till then keep on rocking guys! and lets hear those thoughts!
