Sen being the great bloke that he is sold me his 99 gen 1 busa ,ive never ridden a hayabusa, only chased quiet a few.after chasing Tex O GRADY ,then MONO,I made the hard choice to sell my gsxr1100 ,which id owned for 4 years now,and pretty much built from great ideas from a lot of great blokes here on ASF,So now its time to start a new build thread, parts are on order. so let the good times begin.:D

So what's the plan with this one Pete?

Tony Nitrous
24-04-2012, 05:03 PM
Copper / Bronze 99's are getting collectable.

I'd like one.

Not much changed on the Gen1's, the ECU's got better
and the subframes changed from alloy (a few cracked) to steel.

99/2000 models arent speed restricted.

Down fall on the Gen1's for me, are the 6-pots.
Good fluid, pads and hoses make them average.

Rad guards are worth having. I've damaged two
rads and my guards are getting dented to f#ck.

The seppo GSXR tail conversion I saw used a stock GSXR subframe.
What you bought were the adapter plates to fit it. Not cheap as
they only sold the as a kit with the Corbin seat as neither the Busa
or the GSXR seat would fit. Been done several times, someone has
done it on this forum too, but i think it was without the kit. DIY.

almost criminal to modify...

Yeah, I thought about it too.

I have a brand new unused factory screen,
a brand new unused pair of original can's.

Just needs a seat hump, as that one has been cut so they can
leave the grab rail on with the hump. Im not a fan of that.

Mine was a light damaged 02. I'd have left a clean 99 alone.

Glad it went to a good home mate.

Look forward to seeing the goodies you're putting on it!

Also, like we talked about on phone, this is how well a Gen 2 tail suits a Gen 1 busa (though it's a personal taste thing, still). It's a direct bolt-on too.

Nice one pete !
Glad the bike stayed in the family so to speak.
They have a very similar feel to the GSXR11, just lighter and much, much more power.

Just don't get into the habit of smacking it past 180 too often.

ive spoken to a dealer who confirmed the bike had a recall done to replace the timing chain and tentioner ,way back in 2000

i used to push my 1100 all the time ,on another note ,like you said its easy to speed on it ,and also to carry an extra 50mph everywhere ,ive got to set up the forks and the rears shock ,as its a tad soft for my likes ,but it tracks so well, today i went out and took it easy to Dorrigo is a great twisty bit of road ,then on the way back i opened it up to see if i was good enough for the bike ,i got one hell of a sore neck ,also ,the brakes just dont cut it ,what would you recommend for calipers, and should i go for a wave discs ,

Tony Nitrous
25-04-2012, 06:49 PM
I've seen a couple done the other way too.

Gen1 tail onto Gen2 Busa.

Gen1 has less panels, and has cleaner lines.

Not sure if it gives more tyre clearance on stretched
and lowered race bikes due to being flater and not having
the "curved" Gen2 underside ? Maybe ?

brakes as for me when i played with the 6 spots i striped cleaned and rebuilt them, good fluid, braded lines and good pads
improved them lots but i always thought of useing a radial master but never got the opp to do so
maybe just easy to go radail front end off a gen2 but i feel the prob with them is the lack of a radial master but spliting hairs
the speeds i ride at the 6 spots did the job tho i had the choose on the 750 i have and stayed with the 4 spots for now
is it brakeing power , feel or fade that you feel is lacking to me that is the way you pick what you will do to fix.

RevHead
25-04-2012, 08:10 PM
Just seemed to run on under braking ,if that makes sense,The old 1100 had 6 pots with a cbr radial master cylinder ,braided lines ,it had a soft brake lever but it would pull up better the the busa ,What il do is replace the brake lines with braided ones, and good quality brake fluid, and see were this take me 1st.

Tony Nitrous
25-04-2012, 08:21 PM
Had two Busa's with braided lines, better pad's, fluids.

Neither would pull up like a B-King with stock brakes and
its factory rubber lines !

Never tried a radial master on a Busa but sounds like plan.

Yeah, Gen2's dont have radial masters, just calipers, but B-Kings do.

Good to hear the camchain and tensioner recall has been done.

When I got my first Abusa in 2000 it took my body time to become conditioned to the high wind pressure and hard spension. Had to recallibrate my brain speed sensors too. :D
Busa speed is an expensive addiction.

The front brakes are cack even on a brand new bike.
Quite a few busa guys fit the later GSXR1000 forks with radial calipers.
I'll post a photo of one of my mates conversion later.

I went down the wave discs, Earls stainless brake lines and some regular pad replacement route.
With 240 bhp and my bulk it needed decent stoppers !
I would rather chew up pads than relace the whole forks etc.

Another handling mod is to reduce the wheelbase by dropping a couple of links out of the drive chain moving the rear wheel forward a 1/2" or so.
I did try it once and it did make it sharper on the steering, but I put it back to stock after a while it was a bit too twitchy tbh.

HOS
27-04-2012, 08:54 PM
As far as handling goes the Busa is not a sports bike and never will be.
Its a big brutal ugly pig of a bike which is why I love em.
Its wide, its fat and its a slapper !

My riding style on the Busa, hussle it through the bends reasonably steady and then smack the throttle hard till the next bend.
Its a point and shoot bike, not a true twisties bike. But it handles well for what it is.

Its not a knife through the air, its like a like a baseball bat through the air. Blunt and heavy.
But then again the dry weight of the Busa is less than a stock Bandit 12, that gives you some perspective?
Weighs less than a B12 with massive power and speed. Nothing spins up like a busa, the shear rush it generates in an instant.

Dont buy class A, buy a Busa instead, you will live longer....... maybe.

1st stage of mods on mine:

1. Decent 4 into 1 full race exhaust.
2. Remove the pair valve.
3. Fit blanking plates where pair valve removed.
4. Do the stock airbox modification creating more air volume in the airbox.
5. Fit BMC race air filt r or similar.
7. Fit ECU interface to stock ECU and get it remapped on the dyno.

End result: super smooth and free breathing engine...... and more power. Which is always good.

The stock Busa exhaust has twin cats, they sap power. Some people decat the stock exhaust but its a load of hassle for little benefit.
