Not cheap, but.......
with a Blade frame already done,

http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/02/19/switchblade-honda-cbr900rr-fireblade-frame-kit/

looks like the Ugly-Bus might be next.

Yeah, shame.

There have been threads running for a while on various forums
about how Mr X or Company Y could do it for half the price.
Everyone chokes at the price of aftermarket frames, Martek,
Spondon, etc etc.

No one comes up with an alternative.

Seen that one advertised in SF mag for a while now. Must be a seller hey?

That Bus frame kit is even more ugly !! Did someone beat it the ugly stick ?? [xx(]

Mind you it looks like a 6 year olds artists impression using wax crayons ?? :D Good old MCN...

Yea, have seen lots of pics in s/f mag but no built bike yet. It seems to use the standard tank modified to take clocks but id prefer a new tank altogether.

Hope someone builds an example soon and it gets featured

Yeah Tony, I agree.

But, there is a lot of knowledge and R&D in it (eg. Geometry).
The manufacturing part of it is pretty involved as well (you built a spot on jig for a frame..., everything has to be to standards eg. weld/- fuel tank- testing etc).
It has to be pre-approved for the departments of transport.

Furthermore, the frame has to be build to a standard to get a engineering approval from the local department of transport as well, to get it road legal and insure it as whatever it may be! (Offcourse, one can do a dodgy and don't register it as such. But you'll run without insurance cover and all that).

How you are gonna pull all this up with a frame for $4000- and make a profit?

Pay only half and you will see (or you don't know) what you'll get... Even some Martek Frames where made badly wrong (chain cutting into swingarm etc).

I don't say this, only because I own an expensive frame- but I looked into it a bit...

Frankie,

I agree 100%.

I was getting that comment in before the usual flood of
comments about how expensive frames are, and the usual
"My Mate know's a bloke who".

There have been topic's running on various forums for a while
about "how hard is it to make a top quality frame".
Well, it would seem its Bloody hard ! or else someone would be
getting a bit of the "$10,000-a-time" action.

I almost bought a Spondon 2 years back, but the guy pulled out,
He couldn't part with it.

No worries Tony [8D]

For the ones who are interested.
Every know and then there are second hand frames and complete bikes for sale at Egay or such in the UK and Germany....

Cheaper and easier to get em road registered over here, cause there have been licenced before.

eg
Egay UK

i think it'd be easy
IF you knew you were going to do a run of a hundred or so, then you could easily get the cost all the way down

but i guess that defeats the purpose eh?

that busa looks better than a b-king if u ask me

i dont like the way the frame is done
i.e. with the 3 tubes

its not an engineering solution, so i assume its been done to look pretty
not what i would be after in an aftermarket frame

The busa shown is going to be damned expensive anyway with all the custom made parts on it, take another look?

From the artists impression its more like a kit bike using a Busa donor engine ? Theres nowt on that bike from the OE busa apart from the motor.

Another MCN red herring ??

Well.... what a suprise when I walked into the streetfighters/ custom bike areA at the NEC yesterday ?

Walked straight past the BFO stand !! Stopped and went back... ;)

Looked at the Blade variant of this bike in-the-flesh and it looks damned good !! I talked to the guyt whoes building the frame kits and once he has some orders he will build the Busa version.
The blade is big and chunky !! Looks well smart !!
I can see a Busa lump in it with a turbo on it for sure [:p][:p][:p]

With a Busa donor bike, you will re-use the engine, gearbox, forks, rear shock, wheels, brakes, wiring loom.

I asked for a "ballpark figure" for the cost to buy the kit... he reckons in the order of £7,500 UK Sterling.

Some actual photos to follow once the old fart has downloaded the NEC photos.

Sorry I should point out this is not "just" a frame kit, its the whole bike less the donor parts.

I originally thought those frame rails were really thin in the adverts but your photos have proven they are quite fat. Looks pretty good I reckon. Still not 100% on the 3 rails though.

These are the best pics ive seen so far of this.
The middle frame rail looks thinner than the other two.........

I actually really like it even with the three frame rails, its different.

Yeah Gix, I agree.
They end at the engine mount. It seems to me, they don't do a lot to the stiffness of the frame. I don't know, it just doesn't look right to me.

Having talked to the guy for sometime at the bike show I think he knows his stuff. He is a design engineer who worked for one of the UKs very best luxury sports car manufacturers.
Now I am not a qualified engineer and cannot comment on the structural integrity of this, but the frame looks solid on the bike.

Fancy frame kits are about the looks as well ya know ? :D Is`nt that why most people buy em ?? Lol Lol

I actually looked right into getting one of these earlier in the year & spoke to the guy quite a few times about it. I reckon it'd be a top idea with a later-model motor in it (which is the main reason I'm not already putting mine together right now).
Also - I couldn't ever live down owning ANOTHER FireBlade!
