Here's the project in pictures from day one to now, most of you have seen the build and heard all the bad things said about it from all the professional frame building experts (that have never built a bike!), well I have engineering qualification and am 100% confident in the frames integrity.
The whole exercise here was to see just how much a guy in a small garage could do with no more than hand tools, enjoy :)

Pah I can see right through you sir. A liar is what you are sir a dammed liar and I'm not fooled.

I see a lathe, a stand drill, a compressor and even a Clarkes parts washer. A fully equipped engineers workshop is what you have so your frame build , consequently has been easy

Seriously though this is an incredible build and you are obviously a very skilled and determined individual and I look forward to the finished product. A big FUCK OFF to all the nay sayers too.

It's 3mm thick wall box section

Didn't get much time to play tonight so made the bracket for the rear light

18-04-2012, 06:30 AM
btw why u didnt use a standard 1?

Cause it would be the same as all the other 1000's of fierblade streetfighters!!!!!!

This is a project to see if a streetfighter can be built from scratch with basic tools, it's not a project to fighter a standard blade!!

Here are the cross sections of the early blades

aint u copying a standard frame?
as for the basic tools the tig welder, lathe and many others r not
what ur tube size and grade mate?

cabbie
18-04-2012, 06:47 AM
Scratch built frame not to look different but to BE different!

Yes I copied the geometry of a 94 blade as Honda has a multi million pound R&D dept. I don't so coping the frames
geometry means the bike should handle well!

Apart from welding the only tools I used on the frame were a 4" angle grinder and files.

Main box section is 2"x3", all the alloy is 6000 series.

Surt
18-04-2012, 07:02 AM

I like this build, but those indicators have gaids writen all over it and kills it for me.
But then it's his build not mine.
Opinions are what make this site great and they do help people with ideas.
Sometimes you can't see what's happening right or wrong (one tracked mind), until someone points it out that there are better options.

Just like to clear up the customfighters forum thing.

Last year I built a H2 engined gsxr fighter, I was asked to show it at the ace cafe streetfighter show by streetfighter magazine, I told the organiser that the bike wasn't finished (as in not fired up and tested) he said no problem, well the bike won best in show and this upset a few people (due to it not being 100% finished IE no side stand and being taken there in a van) One member on CF that can't accept this is called "Mustapha Dump" he trashed my build thread over and over and the tread had to be cleaned several times!, I asked admin and mods to kindly stop him posting in the tread but they ignored my request so I gave up and stopped updating the build, no doubt he will join here soon enough and start trashing this thread too.

As for the indicators am happy to hear any opinions, as I scratch built a bike with only an angle grinder and the only part questioned is a set of indicators I'm very pleased :D once the bike is finished the indicators will not be noticed! keep watching.

He is here and it's not Harks...

You should be proud of your bike, i love seeing what people can do with their hands, even though your not just using hand tools like you say.

When i look at the profile of the bike i always think the lines don't mate right.
Like the top of the tank and ductail line, also the rear of the tank is a bit pointy for me.
Having said that i can see the amount of work that's gone into making each part and your fab skills are good.

You said your an Engineer, have you done stress calcs on the frame?
I wish it was as easy in Oz as UK to just build a one off frame.

little things like yr choose of fixtures rubbers and washers
this by its self dont mean shit but you have a nice ballance and simitree with yr lines and concept
as a result the thing i really look for in bikes i like is flow and yrs has a great flow from concept, disign and exiqution
a few things i would do diff but that is just a personal thing but like si sated yr grasp of visual effect is surperb.

Yo Cabbie!! I joined up this place just to find you and tell you this ... Looking forward to some more retarded awesome updates! I love the build. I think I tried to tell you that many times before .. but they either failed to post successfully or someone deleted them ... ??

Anyway, some people have been giving you shit for building "van queens" .. but I just want to tell you that I deeply respect you for following your own path despite the detractors. I have recently come to realize that I like building far more than actually riding. Some people enjoy consuming and some enjoy producing. Fitted, I'll make plastic plugs for the holes and the small front section needs welding on.

Just to clear up a point or two here, the H2 had nothing to do with the original argument. Although my feelings about lack of lighting and unfinished look of it and the obviously faked Ohlins forks spoiling what would otherwise be a nice bike are well known. But that had nothing to do with the original reason for you getting pissy with everyone over this build.

You posted this particular build thread on a newly started small UK forum, where myself and a few other extremely experienced guys including Exmoor customs Rob questioned both the wisdom of you using a large thin walled open box section, and the method of cutting an notching the said material rather than rolling it.
You then threw your toys out of the pram and started blathering on about "having had enough of all these engineers" before flouncing off and then slagging off the forum and its membership on the Streetfighters mag FB page, stating how we should have been grateful to have someone of your calibre generously posting his work there for us to admire.
You've done pretty much the same on several other forums where people have not immediately kissed your arse and lavished praise upon you.
I again questioned the wisdom of using a pair of M10 engine bolts with an M6 cut thread to hold your motor, and their ability to withstand the required tightening torque when installed as did others, as well as questioning the amount of money you had paid for the turbo install. I also commented on the 30+ feet of welding in the frame, and its effect on headstock alignment during welding.
As for your constant assertions about building this with nothing more than an angle grinder, anyone can build a bike with an angle grinder, and a professional welder, a professional CNC machinist, A professional engine builder, etc.
Exmoor Rob did post a long list of forums where you posted this build and received similar less than complimentary feedback about the points raised earlier, resulting in you spitting your dummy out and flouncing off in a hissy fit, but I can't find it on my computer, it does however make interesting reading, and just how many others have a similar high opinion of you.
Hopefully if you do attend Brent Cross this year you might actually ride the thing there being as you live less than 20 miles away. The bikes I had there last year were all ridden over 150 miles to get there, as will they all be ridden there again this year. It doesn't matter how pretty it looks if it can't be ridden it ain't really a bike, it's an ornament.

Toys are still in my pram, see ya at Brent Cross, my bike will be the one without a side stand and taken in a van ;)

That's exactly it!

I don't care if it's a "bike" or a fucking Christmas tree ornament. I admire the work you are doing .. I love those bars! I am truly jealous of your weld penetration .. you have that down to a science! I need to work on my aluminum welding .. its incredibly hard to get full penetration like that on stainless without flux :(

I'm not doing the welding Dog, I have a guy 5 mins up the road and hes a fucking legend with a TIG :o

Anyway my bike is going to fall apart above 30 MPH or so I've been told by the forum Gods so I best take it everywhere in a van, don't want to hurt myself :D I can't believe how much shit can happen when you just want to build a bike for fun! sad really lol

Ask Dogmeatk what he build his bars from :D:rolleyes:

Very interesting build and really looks the part.
Not seen it anywhere else, certainly has a "WOW!" factor.
I can see why its so popular with a lot of folk
and i'd expect it to do well with the show's and mags.

I dont understand anything about the engineering side,
whats safe, what isnt, I wouldnt have a clue, but there's
a few folk on here, Exben, MotoMax, Yantosh and Dynomutt
who id be taking seriously if they commented on anything of mine.
...but thats just dumb arse me.

Hope it all works out well Cabbie.

mate i dont think that it will go the way it did else where in here
if people have their say in the right way we tend to just let it flow
but if peope just turn up to have a cheep shot they get told to get fucked and if they dont pull their head in im shore that things will get looked after
if u only want to hear how good u are then maybe u just keep going to new places
but i think it would be our loss and honestly yrs as well
this place has a top amount of blokes and a more than a few top chicks in here and the amount of internet heros(in joke btw) are small
i have read the cf shit and have found that there was a huge amount of just cock head behaver but a few had vad things to be said, but i realise there is a whole back story on both sides so ill keep my opp to myself as that is just what it is.
i think just hang around and see where things even out to im shore you will find things have a way of doing that around here.
i belive in rideing bikes that are build but have a love of the ones that dont, i feel that there is a place for both and that it is a very boreing world if you build all the same. at the end of the day even if yr bike turns out to ride like a bucket of shit you still have made the impression it looks like you would like to make, yr call

Yo cab. Dont leave again! I want the updates! Maybe you could start an email list and send out updates to avoid the trolls/safety nazis? Then you wouldnt have to fuss with uploading to a 3rd party site.

Keep up with it Cabbie.
Who cares what all these apparent experts have to say, until they actually go and build what they preach about, they've got nothing but words, and their own self importance, and you'll have a pretty schmick lookin bike!!
Alot of the negative blokes, which luckily is the minority around here, will eventually get shot down in pieces by the majority of decent blokes that like to see progress on a pretty cool build, like this.

How the fuck do they know it wont work it looks sturdy to me .....i cant see how the bike would ever be put under enough stress for it to be a prob ....keep going with the updates mate ....fuck the trolls

For fuck sakes, build it and show it how you are doing it, if is safe or not it is up to cabbie to decide, or if he wants to haul the bike around in a Van with "free lollipop" spray painted on the side it is up to him. or just have a bike sitting inside the house just to have a beer and look at it, IMO it looks great well done and keep it up.

I would love to be able to do that ....

I mean have a beer and a bike I fully build sitting pretty NOT the Van thing !
