As for your constant assertions about building this with nothing more than an angle grinder, anyone can build a bike with an angle grinder, and a professional welder, a professional CNC machinist, A professional engine builder, etc.
Go on then, lets see you build a ground up bike, tell you what how about just a frame, subframe, tank and seat unit from scratch, you talk a good build, you tell everyone what they are doing wrong, now lets see you actually do it.

Nah Cabbie, don't put out a fishing line unless you want a bite mate. How about we don't worry about that and carry on with your build instead?
That fuel tap is well tidy. How will you go with your knee in that spot though, or does the indent mean it won't touch your knee?

If this bike is going to be boosted you'll want a good free flowing tap and a return line to the top of the tank.

Sighed up just to follow this thread.
(and to get some ideas for the next time I crash.)
Really enjoying this build Cabbie, followed it from the CF fourms, and was amazed at how you worked that aluluminumin stuff and turned that into a frame. I love looking at your mockups and going "wtf is he thinking?", and then going "OOOOOOOOh!" when I finally see a part finish.
Keep it up, its inspiring me to finish off my own projects and be more hands on.
So far it looks like this bike will kick ass when its done. (i'd like to put in my request now, for a burn out pic when its done):D

The handle bars I made came under fire on the net with "they will snap when you land a wheelie" so here's a stress test for said critics.
Which makes you ask the question: if they are wrong about the bars are the comment about the frame correct?

Just trying to help but shouldnt the bars be the other way as your test which is great, confidence plus, is like you pulling up on the bars, not the force of you coming down on the bars after said wheelie which is what the knockers are on about.
Looking at it again the other way to hang it is how you had it but hang the bike off the centre flat and have the roof supports out on the bar ends achieves the same as turning the bars over
Love the work though and im certainly in no other position than to look and admire

No, there is a return from the fuel regulator under the tank
BANDITROD
16-05-2012, 05:02 PM
ahh ok... will it still need a vent though i know all bikes have them stock
Dynomutt
16-05-2012, 05:22 PM
It will still need an atmospheric vent somewhere in the tank/filler to allow air into the tank as the fuel level reduces through use, otherwise it will create a vacuum, and fuel starve regardless of whether there is a fuel pump or not.

Agreed.
Cold fuel from an underground servo tank into a fuel tank
in the sun will expand. As I would image would excess fuel
pumped around and returned. Air in the tank will expand /
contract as temp's change too.

I used to build hybrid landrovers and had people telling me i couldnt cut and weld the propshafts as they wouldnt be balanced blah, blah, blah.
Well i did 8 and only had to redo one beacause of a slight vibration and they were all free to do and they got the vehicles on the road and they were all tuned V8 powered so got a flogging. All the nay sayers were blokes who were just pub critics. MB said to fit return half way up inside of the tank and put a 180deg bend on the top, that right?
I did alot of reading about turbo stuff before I started mine, and everyone runs the return pipe to the top of the tank (inside).
I run mine to the top and put a 90° bend so that the exit is at the top.
Quoted from OSS.... The return line of the regulator should be as less restrictive as possible: inside minimum 6mm returning into TOP of tank, not below fuellevel in tank. Otherwise fuel pressure cannot go as low as 2-3 psi. Don’t ever (I mean ever!) bend this line because fuel pressure can reach scary levels damaging your carbs seriously!!!!
Yella
17-05-2012, 08:31 AM
When was doing mine everything I found said to run it to the top of the tank otherwise your base fuel pressure will change as the fuel level in the tank gets lower because it changes the back pressure in the line.
I ran mine to the top of the tank with a slash cut top

sorry to high jack slingy but have you got pics of the landies ya built ???? I run the workshop at allfourx4 in newy and we lurve our landies here!!
I'll try and dig a couple out but dont have many. V8's all mixture of 3.5's, mostly carbed, couple efi and then mine which i had to sell as an unfinnished project as we moved here which was a twin turbo, mid engined 86" series one hybrid racer. I'll PM you the pictures as dosnt seem right to Hi jack Cabbie's thread anymore.
Oh and the one tail shaft i cut and rewelded the yoke back in was the one that gave me grief lol, all the others were cut about 75mm from the UJ, then the section removed was split lenghtways with a hacksaw and used as a sleave over the joint to hold it all straight while welding, and then obviously filled the gap with weld and dressed the whole back with hand files to keep a neat finnish. I got this method from a book on building T Bucket hot rods, and while i'm not under any illusion they were perfect, they seemed to work ok and saved farming it out.
Cheers Slingy

I have no idea! it's been in a box in the lock up for years, it just happened to fit. try ebay or car tunning shops etc.

The turbo fitter fucked up the motor, warped head scored liner etc, motor is beyond fixing, just won another blade motor on ebay so it'll have a none turbo motor with pipe set up, will post some pix/vid later once sorted out

I read the same story on the DTP forum;)
There won't be many places left on the net for you cabbie if you keep making a cunt of yourself.

What you mean by "making a cunt of yourself"? I payed for a ride in ride out turbo set up, I got back a fucked motor, how is that making a cunt of myself!

I have replied to your PM, for everyone else.
I have read cabbies threads on 2 other forums, both of those have ended in a shitfight with you leaving or being banned.
After reading the other threads and seeing how cabbie reacts to questions, I have been reluctant to ask anything.
I am very interested in the process of frame building, but the moment anyone asks about it or offers advice all hell breaks loose.
I could have worded my last post differently but that is how I am.
I'm not out to get you just as lots of others aren't, we are all here to help and offer advice. Some of us even know what we are talking about.
I know you and MD don't get along, that's fine I don't get along with alot of people.
But he knows what he's talking about (even if he uses the wrong brand of DYNO :p )
There are others who know far more than I can comprehend, some of these people have been name called by you because they asked a question.
You do make a dick of yourself, I think you need to sit down and chile out a bit.
It is a real shame the motor didn't last as it should have cabbie and i would be pissed off with the engine builder too.
I just think you went about it the wrong way.

Also ..
I really think you should build a turbo motor again as that's what you had planned in the first place, it's a shame for it to be only 75% of the bike you wanted.

Well I went and got advice from a guy that knows exactly what he's talking about and his advice was don't bother with a turbo on an early blade if you just want to turn it on and ride, so I took said advice and will just use the standard lump, to be honest the whole frame "is it strong enough" thing got stupid, they asked me, I said yes it is, then it just went on and on, anyone would cop the arse with it! soon as the bike is up and running I'll post up some vids with wheelies etc.
