frame jig

a few of you know that i really would like to get into chasse work
i really love old sckool style muscle bikes for want of a better word streetfightered
suspension updated, brakes updated, new stance, 17" rims and mod size tryes etc
also i love steel frames and the thought of the makeing off
so when russ told me about his wacky new plain and the need to jig his swing arm to cut and replace both ends
i jumped at the opp to make the jig.............
well then it starts
well how do i make the thing
well if i have to make that much y not a bit more so i can do other things
well fuck me if i want to fix my zephyr frame and be able to swing at 90 to check head stock alingement
well fuck if i have to do that why not hight adjust so i can level jig
well whats a bigger slot so i can weld sitting or work on it standing
you get the idea
any way its not finished but had a good mate shane around today and we had a great day drinking beer and working on this
i know there are a few that will intrested in this out there so ill post some pics im well chuffed with it so far.

funny u should say that mate the idea for the slots came from some pics of his
and when he remembers he is sending me a heap of info on design etc
i dont have anywhere near the fab skills he do but ill make do lol
mind u he cant rotate his 360 thats a big lump of steel he has
after the swing arm and i fix my frame or at least see how bad it is and send it off to the pros
im thinking of makeing a swing arm from sratch and in qld its not that hard to get eng as compered to whole frame

Been thinking hard about something similar myself, where did you chase up the slotted extrusion ? And will they sell cut length instead of a whole 6.5 or 8 m length ?

i would love to get some details and dimensions off you for that lynton ..myself and a mate tried to have a crack at making an alloy frame for predator a fair while ago but both of us ended up running out of time and its been put on the backburner i kept it quiet all this time cos i didnt want to many to know how i planned to register it lol but it prob wont happen for a while now

I found your zip drive just a couple of weeks ago under a pile of unpaid bills haha. Ive been meaning to post it back but i wanted to put a copy of a book on building handmade tattoo machines for you and was struggling to find it.
Well i found it, so ill get it in the post first thing tomorrow.
I also put a heap of books on metal fab, lost wax casting and casting metallurgy for ya.
Ill be interested to see what you build with all this brain food, the jigs lookin good mate!

been out in the shed and knocked out the clamp stops took me a bit to think how to make it work
but very happy with the out come they had to be adjustable as a stop but also work as a clamp this is what i came up with

right oh got of my arse and spent the day in the shed to finish some mods on the jig and make a start on the front swap of russ's arm and must say the work was worth it.It was piss easy to set his arm up

then i could take it out and lop off the front sweet

now i tried grinding it all back and ened up thinking fuck this ill go with a idea i had when i was makeing the jig
so put it back in the jig changed out to 20 mm pg bar with holesaw if i have to do this again ill change the way i made it and use 25 mm pg bar but it still worked just not as smoth as i wanted

now i have to machine the new one extend one arm to match and weld it up still a bit to do but its worth it to just be able to drop it into the new bike :-)

right just got off the lathe, will be taking more off in parts and wish i had of rebuilt the hole saw cutter last night instead of makeing
do with it at 11 pm after a few beers doh its no prob just didnt cut as nice as i wanted too, makes welding not as easy but really just means more work
and i dont like work.........and before u say anything russ i will ingrave i love cock or god forgives me some where u cant take it off lol or even know its there.....
